Whats the meaning of life?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by PwnPirate on 2006-12-01 at 21:09:09
The purpose of humans are to achieve happiness. No one actually knows the meaning of life (or they do, they just don't want to show that they do).

It's basically worship god, be happy, and try your hardest.

Ahahaha.. These kind of topics are still popping up...very nostalgic

Trust me when I say this: Just because something exists, doesn't mean that it has to have meaning.

I strongly disagree with this.

The purpose of life can be looked at two ways:
- Survival of the fittest - Your goal is to reproduce.
- General Contentedness - Your goal is to be as happy as possible.

So, I really think the meaning of life is to be as happy as you can without causing logical harm to others.

This is the meaning to life:

So it's like taking a rock and say "Why do rocks exist?" Rocks will exist always as do life does.

It hink the meaning of life is to leave your emotions and thoughts in the memory of the people you were close with (friends, family, loved ones, children), and try to become happy.

If humans didn't exist, but Earth with animals did, would there still be any meaning of their existance?

To obtain and maintain happiness. How to obtain that happiness, however, isn't on topic. tongue.gif

I personally find that no amount of success is worth it unless you have somebody to share it with, be it friends or family.

For me, the meaning of life is to make the people I care about happy, considering that I rarely get fits of happiness.

I don't think that we have a special reason purpose why we exist, just that we evolved from one-cell animals until what we are today, we're just one cog in evolution.

The purpose of life? From a subjective point of view (which is what we're all experiencing), it's to experience as much happiness as possible.

How is worshipping God an axiomatic goal of life?

The first is in evolutionary terms. Since none of us are living in evolutionary terms, we have to go with the second. tongue.gif

Who's to say everyone derives happiness from passing on their genes?
Who's to say everyone derives happiness from worshipping god(s)?
Everyone has such different values that there are very few universals to work with.

Before I thought that the meaning of life was to spread your genes. But I agree with moose more - it's to achieve happiness.

I've decided that the meaning of life is just to simply reproduce and pass on your genes to the next generation and improve the human race

If you look at life as merely passing on your genes, then it is the meaning of life. However, later in my post I mentioned that I thought the meaning of life was attaining happiness.

This is the goal of the human race, but something as simple as this can't be the meaning of life. Some organisms don't even experience happiness, yet they still live. I don't think you can really find the meaning of life using human logic, because the only reason we have minds is because evolution gave them to us in the first place. This would be like using a burnt piece of wood to make fire. Anyways it's sort of impossible to argue sides in this topic, if someone like Sigmund Freud didn't know the meaning of life then we don't have much hope either.

Freud did contribute some to the field of psychology, but his thoughts aren't the end-all be-all of psychology. In fact, most of his theories have been disproven and he really isn't influential.

Most people mean the meaning of human life when we address the meaning of life. People really do not care about the meaning of the lives of animals.

Fine, I'll use Einstien. He has level 50+ influence and is immune to the figurehead spell.

Einstein was a theoretical physicist, he had nothing to do with life, humans, cells, or any organisms...

Seriously, I don't think a mathematic equation can prove the meaning of life, but aye, bring Einstein back to life and go ahead.

Mathematics have every bit to do with life. Mathematics represent everything ever existing. Anyways the point was that he was an intellectual, and a highly respected one. The only way you could counter my argument is if you claimed to be smarter than Einstein himself.

Mathematics is a calculating method of human logic. It can probably calculate your thoughts.

Well while people still learn about the meaning of life they have 80 years at an average to try and get the most before they die of old age.

And the sun will explode in 12 billion years destroying earth and the other planets.

Reminds me of this quote from aqua teen pooing force.
"So wisdom cube I have this paradox I want solved"
"If man was put on the earth for a reason then when we die do we go to a higher realm a realm place or do we rot in the ground for the rest of eternity never to come back and enjoy the past and the future of things"

in 12 billions years, the sun wont explode and destroy earth and the other planets, because by that time the sun would be a red giant and it would expand well pass earth and perhaps pass the asteroid belt
