Okay, say [] is a location, and say there is a shuttle tilted upwords with a scourge attached that will launch accross the map when the player unloads a unit. I want the scourge to be launched upword since the shuttle is pointed upword. But like, I want each direction its tilted in shoot in that direction. While the shuttle is in the same location everytime. Help please?

What's that stupid imaghe for Oo

Unless someone finds that stuff in the memory, and you get the EUD conditions for it, there is no way.

Seriously, why did you put a picture of Naruto in demon fox form? Anyways, there's no way you can do what you described. I'm pretty sure that not even EUD conditions get that specific.

Um, what's with the picture?

As far as the directional shooting.. that's hard. I'd seriously recommend doing what MillenniumArmy did in Aerial Combat 2 map, where you just have a choice of 8 units to unload for the 8 directions. Even that is restrictive, though, because in that map he uses a burrowed zergling moving along the ground to aim the intercepters.

You really can't tell what direction the shuttle is facing, but you can tell where the shuttle just came from by using locations and grids somehow.. any system that you'll end up using would be too complex for me to just think up off the top of my head and try to explain in a post. Good luck, in whatever you end up doing.

Whats with the pic? Jk, it was removed before I got here biggrin.gif

What kind of map are you trying to make? If you tell us I gurantee that someone will come up with the best solution.

Easy, get Warcraft III if you want to make a map that advanced. ^_^
Another suggestion might be if you are launching the scourge at a target, have a centered location on that target and have him go there... even if the target moves it shouldn't follow... i'm not exactly sure though since I havn't made a starcraft map since 2004 =o

I don't think you get it. He wants his missle to fly at an angle, so you can decrease and increase the power and the angle you fire the missle, he wants to make it hard so hit your opponents.

And just to make it so this isn't spam... That isn't very possible without EUD's, unless you want to do it like the map in the experimental maps.

Sorry, I don't know of any good way to do it. Like fritfrat(U) said, there are ways to tell where the shuttle just came from, but telling where it's actually pointing is much harder.

Rather than using eight units in the shuttle to find the eight directions, one thing you could try instead would be to have some kind of direction control panel. For example a square doughnut of walkable terrain over unwalkable terrain covered by lots of locations which correspond to large locations on the map. That way it would take slightly longer to aim (you'd use a vulture for maximum speed, of course) but you'd be able to get more directions than with the unloading units system.

Well, it won't be very precise. It's possible, but like I said, it won't be very precise. What you can do is constantly center a grid on the shuttle with each of the cardinal directions surrounding it. What you need to do is to make them close enough to the shuttle so that while it moves, it will hit one of the locations and will indicate the direction it is pointing at (given that it is very difficult to change where the shuttle is pointing without moving a little).

NE---N---NW

E----X---W

SE---S---SW

Now, when the shuttle moves to one of the location, reset the grid around the shuttle. And depending on which location it is, for our purposes, say you wanted it east, then make an indicator, like a switch or a death counter that you will use to designate it as east. The set up of the map has to be a little different as well. Place units like burrowed lurkers, cannons, etc. etc. around the borders of your map. When you want the shuttle to fire its scourge and it is set on "East" have a location that stretches horizontally across the entire map to center on the shuttle, giving it's initial location, and make another location center on the border unit and have the scourge move to that location. I trust, that if you can figure out how to do that, you can figure it out for the other directions. However, the diagonals are going to be much much more difficult. You would need to find a way to calculate the place where the diagonal line hits the border of the map at any given position of the shuttle. The way that I would do it to use the horizontal and diagonal units to calculate that exact position. Good luck.

EDIT
Whoops. I didn't realize you were getting a static shuttle. It should be much easier then. You probably won't need the units, and just have the shuttle move back to the center static location you want. You can be a lot more precise with this now. Still, it won't be that precise. The scourge will only hit a very small range.

Don't forget that a shuttle is not just a single spot, but has a size. You will have to arrange your locations very carefully to cover that.

Well now.. wait a second, I recall there being a map in the 'Experimental Maps' section in the DLDB that has some way to detect unit direction.

You may want to look into it, I know I've heard of it in there somewhere, it might help you out. -Other than that, I can't say too much.

Here it is ^_^

That doesn't detect where the unit is facing.
