Staredit Network -> Literature & Writing -> What Have We Forgotten

This is a poem i wrote a few moments ago. I use no spellcheck or such, so if you have a problem with the spelling/gramer, let me save you the trouble and tell you i dont want to hear about it. Spell check is unfair to the equal balance of talent and human error that makes writing what it is. Or atleast i think so.

This writing is inspired by the movie Radio Flyer. It has to be one of the best movies i have seen in my life. Just to give an idea, it was a kids movie, with a deeper meaning then the young could realise, and it just gave itself all the more appeal.

What have we forgotten, you and I
Where did we lose our dreams
Our ability to fly
Where did our wings go
When did to the floor they fall
When was it we forgot it all

I sit in my room, my parents dead
My toys left untouched on the shelves
The army men, and teddy ted
I hadnt seen this room in seven years
And ever second i sat there
Made me seem all the more distant

What have we forgotten
Where did maturity and imagination
Colide and move the others line
When did we forget our toys
When did we become "too old"
Why, why, why
Did we ever, ever, grow old

I cant understand why i didnt fight
I was so eager to grow up
So willing to undertake plight
And cast away my short childhood
In the hope of being something good
A job they said, an education they begged
But it was never, ever for me
It was for them, and what they wanted to see

When did girls become cute
When did cooties disappear
When did our brother become our friend
And not a mortal enemy still held dear
Why did we let our childhood go to waste
Dreaming about growing up, flying into space
Why did we ever not notice our fall
And what pleasure we had around us
All, all along
