Hey SEN! Long time no see xD

Well, I run across this place once in a while, so I thought I'll post a map I finished making not long ago - Sunken Defense PRO.
This is a map based on the 10-WAY genre, no cheat, no terrainal maze, which I liked a lot more than the crap we see so often these days... sick.gif

Plus, unlike other Sunken Defense maps, this one is actually hard.

Instead of just getting a lot of one unit which is the best unit in the map and upgrading it than every stage watching your defense doing nothing special other than getting more units, this map makes you have to micro in order to win.
I also went back in time a bit, by using older systems (like using civilians per cash, rather than one choosing civilian and mins & gas as cash) in order to make this feel more like the older 10-way sunkens.

Anyway, lets get to the meat of this; The map features 6 basic units that are all different from each other in their gameplay; using Siege Tanks & Archons or Lurkers & Zealots doesn't feel the same.
The map also allows you to get a Queen(Ensnare) or Arbiter(Stasis) that can both be useful at the higher stages.

My goal was to make the map as micro dependant as possible. I feel I didn't achieve this goal yet, however, I'm getting there.
For future releases, I have a few features in mind that I'd like to add, and I'd like to hear your opinions;

First, I'd like to hear how do you like the map as it is now. I played it myself with friends and with pubbies, and it was quite fun either way, but felt a bit dull at points when losing again and again due to 1 person that sucked. So my suggestion is, try to hook up as many people you know when you play this map and than use pubbies as a filler (you can't beat this map with less than 6 people, too hard), so that your team keeps improving with each game rather than be recreated with new people who'll do the same mistakes again and make you lose.

---

The features I thought about adding in future releases are:

1. The ability to turn Sunkens back into Drones, thus being able to change the looks of your defense if you messed up, or to change tactics according to the level and the unit's speeds, which may add another strategy element to the game.

2. Adding the option to select a difficulty level out of 3, when 'hard' = 100% hp, 'medium' = 75% hp, and 'lol noob' = 50% hp. This map wasn't intended for noobs, so this feature won't really belong in it; however it might make the map more b.net friendly, so iunno.

It would have been a lot better if you had 6 different difficulties all modifying each other via players in game, as you have said you need 6 pubby players, well if you get 6 good pubby players in this game its a miracle. 90% of the people will leave, or go AFK, or something else which just frustrates me...

However, the turn sunkens back into drones seems like a great idea.

Good job on the map, but seriously think about those difficulty moderators later in production.

Ok; It would be nice though if you downloaded the map and played it before commenting tongue.gif

Getting 6 good pubbies isn't easy, but it's not so bad if you have like 2-3 bad players if the others are really good and can take care of their leaks. At some point after several games the less good players learn what to do, too. Or leave...

Now that I think of it, I could incoporate a selection that lets you decide if the map is played with 2, 4, or 6 people, if 2 than only spawns are on sides and if 4 than only on corners.

Are you going to change this map in any way adding more units and balancing, tweaking it in any manner? It's nice, but it could be nicer.. smile.gif

I'm constantly giving it updates; The current version is 1.07, and it's a quite refined one so I guess I'll submit it to the DLDB. It has the options to give other players your civilians, turn sunkens back into drones, and a "Team go" rather than the regular "Player 1 go". i.e. you can skip timers by telling everyone to hit the overlord on bottom right, rather than having p1 ask everyone if they're ready every time.

Just downloaded your newest version, annoying that its zip. I think the terrain could be laid out nicer on a different tileset, but I still dislike that its only one player! Excellent, but some of the things are just too cluttered and need to be better assorted and not to mention you can suicide your scourges into your allies biggrin.gif and maybe you could remove the (Player 1 red lost the game) thing since its kind of a team effort. But overall, best sunken defense map on battle.net congrats.

Why the heck did you zip it? .scx/.scm is already an archive. pinch.gif

Sorry for the long delay, I was away for a while..;

Anyway, I finished working on a newer version: 1.08 ->

Changed the tileset according to n0b0dy-'s suggestion, and replaced the "Player 1 red lost the game" message with a new one.
Also done minor bugfixing.

Being able to suicide scourges into allies is intentional, and the reason it's in a *.zip is because SEN turns spaces into underlines, and I want to preserve the original map name for correct distribution over bnet.
