Staredit Network -> Terrain -> My Helms Deep

But you should be able to see where I am going. The bottom half of the map is unspectactular, with pretty much just a big mountain. To keep the size down a bit, and make it easier to see, I've scaled it down a bit and compressed it, so quality is not up to par (and thus helps me out some tongue.gif ).
The door will be covered up by some sprites, probably floor traps.
Of particular note are the steps. I'd like to make some of them bigger, but the top/bottom always look messy, and I just gave up. Anyone have any examples?

Try putting some effort into making blends... You're sort of just smashing things together...

I'm not doing much for the mountain, since I won't be able to make that look very nice. However, I'm mainly focusing on 1. The grass around the castle and 2. the castle walls.

I don't particularly like the castle walls, but I haven't found any other way to blend them. They don't quite fit together like rock does.

Yea, that mountain is bad.
The walls remind me of Rush terrain. Those blendings always remind me of it.

This looks thrown on. Like everybody says, blend. Also, this doesn't remind me much of the helm's deep from the books or movies, make it more like the real thing.

Maybe I shouldn't have included the mountain in the picture at all, since that's not my primary goal here. And when did rush use the jungle tileset?

It seems all I am lacking is a tower, and some doodads. For playing purposes, I can't have the tower unless I put a whole bunch of sprites in the middle of it so an army can walk behind it.
actual pricture of Helm's Deep

Please help with making the wall look better, I just can't seem to make them look very good with only 5 different tiles. I was thinking I might use ruins, but they don't seem to be very good. I can either use clean walls or walls with vines, but the vines seem to add to the randomness, making it less noticeable that the wall looks like that.

When I meant Rush terrain, I meant the big castle walls you have. They look like these "buildings" from Rush.

Oh. I don't think I can avoid it. Heres a few other options, but I still think that the top one looks the best.

I didn't say that you can't use that technique, I just said it reminded me of Rush terrain.
I think the top looks the best too.

I think I'm done with terraining this map for now. Here's a look.

Overall, I have to give my own work a 5/10 on the castle, since I can't do much better, but it still doesn't look good. A 3/10 on the mountains, but I don't really care about those. They look better than any map I've ever played, so I can't say they're too horrible, and I don't want to spend anymore time making them 8/10 when people really aren't going to look at them.

Go ahead and rate it, make suggestions, but for god sakes, don't just tell me to blend. I could also use some more sprites, but I'm not sure where to put them, or what would look good.

Frenzy, quit saying it looks like rush terrain.
Terrain looks like terrain. (gosh.)
