Title

Pick a dragon at the start, train around against other dragons. Eventually, breed and upgrade your dragons and cream the other players. Lose a battle three times and/or lose all your dragons and you lose. The last player standing wins.

Specifications

-Map tileset

Player vs Player Battle System

Storyline / Introduction

There isn't much of a story, just pick a pair of dragons

Features

-Player Interface
Move around with your Tamer, and walk near a dragon on the field. It'll take you to a small arena where the two dragons you picked (if you haven't picked any, it'll just take two) fight the dragons you've run into.

The dragons you fight are random, but based on what you ran into. And you have a 50% chance to recruit one of the dragons you've fought. If you have more than two if the same type of dragon, one will be released (with absolutely no consequence).

-What's new in your map that others have not done before?
I have never, EVER seen a Player against Player Xuru-ish battle system (speaking of which, I've never played Xuru RPG tongue.gif)

Details

-Characters
Just your Tamers and Dragons

-Weapons
Claws, breath and teeth biggrin.gif

-Items
None

-Spells

Moose said "Cool battle system and a pretty fun idea, unfortunately not very well developed. You die way too easily to the bigger dragons, and things aren't explained very well."

I'll rebalance the tanks, archons, hydralisks and ultralisks (hopefully without making them weak in PvP battles). But if someone could explain how it was underdeveloped, I could work on that too. And point out what things weren't explained and I'll fix that too.

And if anyone's found a bug, I'll fix that.

Actually, that was how I got the idea a few months ago, but I only had the excuse to make it when I heard about the contest biggrin.gif.

In the next release (which will be released when I fix a few more things that people say, I want to cover everything with this next release), I've fixed a bug in the PvP which basically boots the winner, I've made the active dragon location bigger (and stacked some beacons to show it), and fixed a few balance issues with most of the enemies, Meteors, Venoms and Dracoliches are much easier, just don't expect to kill them immediately after you start. Solar's remain relatively unchanged, but they're slightly easier.

It sounds fun... I think it would be cool if the Dragons had spells or you had potions to use in battle for healing and such cool1.gif.

Spells are just about out of the question (several types of dragons, how is that gonna work?). Potions and items on the other might might be doable... I'll think on it

I'm preparing a new release that fixes a few things and touches it up a little more. And thanks for your praise, your dragoncraft map is a favourite of mine smile.gif.

I played it twice and I have a few questions:

1.) How do I use the upgrades at the top? One game I died early and the other I was doing well but then everyone else died so I won... and does it not tell you when you upgrade? I think my HP was going up but I never got any messages about leveling. Never had a unit in upgrade area to use it.

It was kinda fun wandering around and all I just wish it hadn't cut off so fast when others died... maybe if u have an option to continue playing... like move on this beacon if you want to keep playing once enemies are dead.. and then you just move off it to get victory later... just a thought. I am sure there is alot more to this map I missed.

Also a potential bug.. the first game I lost two fights (3 dragons) and it told me I suffered a total defeat. That same game my opponent lost after suffering 3 deaths and losing two fights. So not sure what was up with that... maybe I lost a unit in a fight I won and didn't notice? That's about all I can think of... I'll rate the map once I get a longer game done on it. (Nevermind no bug... 3rd was my last dragon so that's why I lost)

EDIT: A better idea might be to add in a super dragon that is a computer and you have to kill it to win... so then once you kill humans you could have fun/do whatever until your ready to take it on. Or maybe not even a super dragon but just a dragon to kill in addition to killing human opponents to win.

EDIT #2: Played one more time and in 30 minutes I got all the dragons and upgraded to the last level and such. Also found the temple... anyways it was cool. Heals would be nice as it would allow for more micro and such in battles. And spells could be Dragon Caster Spells that they gained the ability to use as you got more overall exp regardless of the dragons you had. Anyways my two cents, I give it 6.5/10. Not very friendly to new players... and you need at least 10k exp before you can get into it. At least list the EXP requirements in briefing or somewhere. And mention the upgrade temple too because at first it looks like a broken feature with no selector.

1): You have to go to the breeding center in the middle to upgrade your dragons attack and defense. Upgrading HP and growing your dragons is completely automatic (but be sure to put your dragons back on the active beacon).

In the newly balanced version games take longer. I played a game of this with Moose which took 30-45 minutes.

And you'll also be able to spectate after you lose, if you want to stop spectating, you can always quit tongue.gif.

I'm also putting explainations everywhere to make it more user-friendly. If you liked the last one, this one will be much better. In v1.3, I might make a potion system, thought I'll need more ideas for potions than just healing.

I just got Battle for Middle-Earth and Mechwarrior 4: Mercenaries (Best Mechwarrior game ever!), so it'll be awhile before I finish up the new version, but I'm working quickly now.

ADDITION:
Wow, that was fast. v1.2 is finally finished. It features:

-Improved balance: Tanks, archons, ultralisks and hydralisks are now beatable, but wait until maybe whelp until you do fight them.
-Improved aesthetics: Colors for units' names finally. Water Dragons have blue names! Shadows have grey, etc.
-A bug I found where the winner of a PvP battle essentially gets booted has been fixed!
-Spectating: You may now stay and watch the game if you lose.
-Random Starts: Red can start in blues area, blue in reds, teal in reds, etc. randomly at the start.
-Breeding costs were downgraded from 500 to 200 to encourage people to experiment.
-Stacked beacons to make the active dragon beacon bigger.
-Changed Death Dragon to Infested Duran from a lurker (who incidentally couldn't burrow)
-Improved explainations to make the map more noob friendly.

Go get it at the link in the opening post!

Does that mean you can't win until the spectators leave?

I just played 1.2 and the changes were great. It was nice knowing a temple existed in the middle and the reminders were helpful.. though a bit overly colorful tongue.gif. But their is a MAJOR BUG... if you play player 1 now you can't get in a fight with any dragons or other players.. I guess you forgot to disable something when you were testing?

Anyways that would be a good thing to fix... ermm.gif

Darn, i fixed that bug you just posted (the location wasn't centering around red tamer, something deleted the trigger), and another one popped up. I battled teal, I won, and for some reason it said teal wants to battle and victory two or three times.

I'll post the version with the first bug fix, it'll take awhile with the second bug.

Bug: I had two bcs as my battling dragons, and after each battle the other bc teleported out of the 'choose this dragon' beacon and i had to move it back there after each battle which was annoying.

Also not sure did this really happen or was my friend just 'noobing' around, but after a while he whined that he had no ghost and it was owned by computer (when you battle). He was in slot 4.

That's why I stacked beacons for the Active Dragon location, unfortunately, it still happens, anyone have any ideas on that besides making it even bigger?

(as i said) his ghost was owned by computer, like when you battle. He told us that he had no ghost (because it was owned by computer) He left. A bit later we found his ghost (still owned by computer).

I think the battle didn't end for some reason. (maybe he didn't just kil the last enemy..? like i said about the 'noobing around'.)
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Grand_Dracolich on 2007-01-25 at 22:12:13
Ah okay. It's most likely he got a total defeat. I need to revise the trigger that kills the dragon tamer for the character when he loses (Either that, or I forgot to make that trigger tongue.gif). If it center viewed where his tamer was, however, then that's a big problem.

ADDITION:
Version 1.3 is ready. It fixes an issue where player 1 wouldn't be able to win a battle against player 4 (you could kill his units, but the battle wouldn't end).

It also fixed a few balance issues, such as how a few wild dragons had an attack upgrade...
