Okay, we're up (for now, anyway), here's what's going down.

* Clan (U) has relocated. Their forum is locked down and anyone who wants something has 30 days to clear out what they need from that forum. All people banned from that forum have been exonorated for this purpose.
* New coders will be hired and get to work on v5. We need to get this thing done.
* Map Showcase is now designated for all playable maps (including alpha and beta), not just "complete" maps.
* The category "Melee Map Making" is now renamed "Melee Mapping & Playing". Discussion of melee strategy now fits into Melee General Discussion.
* Various forums and categories are being renamed. I will probably make major structural changes to the forums soon.
* Project Graveyard is no longer a subforum.

Glad to see it back up. Can you explain what happened that couldn't be fixed, or do you even know?

Just promise that v5 will actually be good when it's finished.

I think v5 is awesome. No offense to Yoshi, but it appeals to me overall much more than Latova, probably because it's customized especially for SEN smile.gif.

Latova or v5 or anything. If it stops downtime I'm all for it.

Anyways, please stay up SEN, I can't imagine the UMS world without this site.

Brought SeN up, just for my birthday. How sweet. ;o

So you plan to go through with it? Excellent. I just hope IP comes back at some point. Would suck to make v5 then have to move it if he doesn't pay the hosting bills or something...

I'm guessing Yoshi didn't write Latova from scratch, he probably borrowed a crap ton from v5.

Just to clear things up, I didn't do anything to SEN.

It wasn't me who made it go down. I know a few people were thinking I hacked it...

If you want to make those kinds of claims, make sure you have proof. I have given the (unfinished) source to the Maplantis guys, swap, and a few other people. If I'm asked for it I'm more than happy to provide it. Just because you don't like a little competition doesn't mean you should go attacking the software that runs it. I have worked very hard on it for the last year, not to have someone like you make unproven vague claims.

I started the SEN v5 project orginally. I'm sure theres still some of my code in the SEN v5 site as there is in Latova. However I made very sure that the only things that remained were stuff I wrote orginally. However it's been a year and both softwares have changed drastically. Latova is far different from SEN v5 if you've actually used it, so do not make such claims. It is more than obvious that I am capable of coding large things.

I gave you guys the domain, although I don't agree with some of the people here, do not go attacking me under the basis that my name is in the Latova Copyright. If you have beef, its the people who created the site, not me. All I want is to be left in piece.

All he said is that he was guessing you didn't start from scratch... Not really making any solid claims. Calm down.

omg yoshi posted after me... ^_^!!!!

on-topic: do you know the cause for the down-times?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Yoshi da Sniper on 2006-12-27 at 16:35:52
Ok well I want to make that clear, because what some of the people do is they make unverified claims and somehow it becomes what everyone believes. I gotta go work on stuff now, any of you are free to use latova if I compare it, and IP can go compare it to his SEN v5 code as I most certainly am sure he will. If you didn't know, I orginally started writing the SEN v5 code 2 summers ago. IP took over and I decided I wouldn't write it anymore. I took what I WROTE and used it for the beginnings of latova (since i wanted to make a forum system anyway), and now we're a year later and I'm almost done. It's pretty evident that I know what I'm doing and can code well, but you guys seem to be uptight right now because of the whole maplantis launch. A lot of people right now have access to the Latova kernel, what they're doing with it is legal, so its okay.

As for SENs downtime, I was talking to moose about it. He thinks it has something to do with SEN's mysql_pconnect(), I can't rule it out, could be an option. "Too many connections" is a rather odd error.

If the site was being DDOS'ed then you wouldn't even see a page. If a script injection vunerability was found the site would be defaced, but moose wouldn't of lost his access. SEN's extended downtime was due to the holidays, as people (even server admins), want to be with their families.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by SI on 2006-12-27 at 16:45:40
hey yoshi, you still map any?

btw, SEN probably went down due to the way V5 was connecting to mysql, moose will fix that now I hope
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mini Moose 2707 on 2006-12-27 at 16:54:50
Well, I'll briefly explain what happened.

Too many SQL connections caused a huge backup. The server, trying to compensate for the connections, starts suspending and killing other processes (FTP and cPanel for instance) to compensate for it. Eventually this lead to an 11 GB backup of SQL garbage which is now cleared up. As far as I can tell, everything is functional again and IP has optimized our SQL. And yes, v5 no longer uses mysql_pconnect();. tongue.gif

As for IP, he's starting to be around more. He told me that his main computer died, which obviously creates some problems on the internet.

As for Yoshi's coding skill, I wouldn't doubt it at all. He's helped get this site back up and running quite a few times, as well as give me a bit of coding help myself.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by l)ark_ssj9kevin on 2006-12-27 at 17:18:27
That explains why it said "Too many connections on server" or something
Report, edit, etc...Posted by [SmC]DiNO-X on 2006-12-27 at 17:35:46
then Its connection alright now, yeah w00t.gif the site weren't dying as i thought pinch.gif , i'll tell my friends this.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by 94Hours on 2006-12-27 at 17:50:40
Why does SEN always end up going down? Is it just because of the connection or the server?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Centreri on 2006-12-27 at 17:53:45
I wasn't trying to insult Yoshi; Even if he had borrowed from v5, he helped code a lot of that as well and Latova is still awesome. I just like the style sense of v5 a bit more. And the awesome AJAX shoutbox.
