Hyped? I am. Kinda weird since it should be me doing the hyping, but it kinda works like a double edged sword after a while.

Anyway, I'm nearing completing of the functionality demo, so I suppose I should start getting things rolling with the map's other aspects. Here's the itinerary so far:
  • Firstly: I plan to have the functionality demo finished in about a week, which'll account for nearly 40% of the real work for this project (it would be more, but the size and depth of the story and events will take their own sizable chunk of trigger work beyond functionality stuff). I've decided I'm not going to release the functionality demo to the public, but instead get together a team of beta testers for the purpose of tweaking and refining the gameplay system. I'll post about openings for this soon, for whoever may be interested.
  • Secondly, I need to make my final decision now about the nature of this project. My original plan was to make a b.net playable, single map mega RPG, but now it's looking more like I'll have to divide it into 2 or 3 maps, and maybe even abandon multiplayer altogether and revert to making a campaign, due to an unavoidable technicality of the gunner system (P12 dark swarms can't be reliably distinguished among players). I don't know how I'll decide on this, maybe by seeing how well my current system holds up during the functionality demo beta testing or else after I get story outline completely finished for parts 2 and 3 and finish making the dialog for at least part 1 (to determine length, mostly). I suppose I'll put that part on hold for now.
  • Thirdly, I'll need to get some more advertising and a webpage made for the project. The trailer was a start, but I think it can go much further with proper management. As for the webpage, I started on character bios and the background story, and plan to get some screenshots and an outline of the gameplay and player functionality system written up as well, but I don't really want to divert too much time to webwork beyond simple writing stuff, so if someone is interested in cooking up a decent page to put all that in, I'll have an opening for that soon.
  • Fourthly: terrain. I have a simple layout of all the major locations, towns, dungeons (if you could call them that), etc., but my talent for asthetics only goes so far when I'm thoroughly distracted with the other aspects of the project, so I may also have some openings for terrain artists (good ones) as soon as the functionality demo is finished. I'll expect good custom terraining skills and a strong sense of asthetic if anyone is interested.
  • Fifthly: sound FX and score. With the functionality demo I plan on having the aural aspects of the map nearly finished, save the music, but there may be room for further refinement in that area when the time comes. We'll see. As for the music, however, I've recently got an email from someone who may be interested in doing custom compositions for the project, which would certainly be a lot more impressive than using existing VG and movie tracks, as I had originally planned. We're only beginning on collaboration for this part, but I'll post a few of the samples he sent me for those who are interested:
    QUOTE
    This is a piece with a strong march like feel, and a strong string progression. I pictured it
    for an "over world" area.
    <link is down>

    A small piece that I wrote with a village in mind. The tambourine didn't mix well, but again,
    it is only a quick demo.
    <link is down>

    An ambient sort of piece.
    <link is down>

    Since the days of Bach, novice composers have learned to compose by copying the style of the sixteenth century vocal composers, in a technique called counterpoint. I recently bought a set of choir samples so I could hear my works performed. Anyway, should you need vocal music, I can compose you some. (I also was recently playing Chrono Cross and noticed the composer used these
    exact samples).

    <link is down>
    He says he can do much higher quality demos with more time, but if those don't sound fricken cool so far, I don't know what does.
Anyway, that's all for now, as most everything awaits the completion of the functionality demo and finalization of the story outline for parts 2 and 3.

MMMMMMM! I like, one sure Hell of a freaking lot! Tuxedo, you are my idol.
About that village piece, it sounded decent enough, and most people and b.net do not have a real taste for music wink.gif I can see it now:
-B.net Idiot #745235: OMG, listen to the quality. This freaking ROCKS!

Maybe have some music for boss battles? I mean these pieces are nice and all, but you don't want something this... errrmm calm while fighting the BIGGEST FREAKING BEST BOSS OF YOUR LIFE. Oh yeah, I'll chip in and look for some music. Don't care if you like it or not; I'll rest easy knowing I tried : )

Um, those sound files are mp3, which can't be imported into staredit, you stupid noob. God, don't pretend you know what your talking about if you think staredit imports mp3. Jeez. </noob>
Edit: Above is a feeble attempt at a joke.
Sorry, I had to do that.

For deciding wether it should be single or multiplayer, I think you should test it out in the demo and see how that works, then decide from there.

Download Accelerator Plus isn't working so I can't check out those mp3s, but custom music would kick freaking ass.

Can you tell us a little more about gameply.

You just called me a noob. Explain yourself. When the HELL did I say they could be imported in? You're a censored.gif ing dumbass, that's what you are calling people noobs without being able to back up those claims.

That's what audio converters are for dumbass! How ch00 expect them to get into his map? Unless... are you even talking to me Vindexus? Cuz it sounds like you're talking to someone who posted and deleted his post after you got onto him... If not... ranting.gif censored.gif ing moron! ranting.gif

*Edit* Sign me up for beta too!

I would be a good beta tester.
I spent like 2 hours on some1s map shooting random things and seeing reactions. there were some problems
1. I killed the whole town biggrin.gif

I normally do stuff that any person would do. I catch onto games quick and i can read normally so i could judge if text is taking way too long or too short

So i hope im a beta tester ^_^
as for terrian im not so good at that....heh.....heheh I guess i could make a good terrian but it would look dull. If you have a wide grass area with 0 doodads its goona suck. Just a helpful thougt smile.gif

Um all these people saying they wanted to be a beta tester, did you notice he said he would be posting something later for beta testees and anyway the map sounds awesome custom music, terrain team, censored.gif all my maps are going to look like crap with all my imported movie music and stuff compared to yours...

P.S. I wanna be beta tester too :ph34r:

I think a beta tester for his map should be a good friend and a long time fan of yours, Tux. So the beta testers are me, Mog, and who else? wink.gif

Who loves Borrowers? I do!

Great so far! The trailer was breathtaking and I hope that everything else turns out as good as it. As for beta testing, anyone on the forums would do it, and that includes me. biggrin.gif

The music is too calm for my liking. There is a guy online that will let you use his music in your map, and he has some really good ones. His name is Edgen and he has music in Campaign Creation's Starcraft Team Fortess, he has music in the trailer for Taking Lives, he has music in countless mods and other maps. And this is his webpage. Here are some highlights:

Starboard Battle!
Strength and Valor
The Rise and Fall of Middle Earth
The Forefront
Fallen Legions

Check those out! Oh, one more thing. Pick beta testers, terrian makers, and other people that are good. This project will go faster with them and will ultimately be the best it can be.

Good luck on the map!

Actually you can import Mp3's into Starcraft, but you guys don't know much about it, because its used rarely, and only giving out to advance users at Campaign Creations.

Since you seem to be making this a Campaign over time, and a single player, you could create a MOD of Starcraft for it, and therefore use the MP3's saving space, and quality of sound. Contact Quantum at Campaign Creations and ask him about the possibility of using Thundercraft, he may ask you for some information on your campaign, because he doesn't want to give it to just anyone. Then either ask him, or do the MOD yourself to get the sounds in, as well as anything else you want.

A little early for beta testers etc, but what I could use right now is a good webpage designer. As for the music, I only said those were samples of his work, not what's actually going to be in the RPG, which'll likely be darker and more intense, as is consistent with the story.

Damnitall, geo censored.gif s is doing its usual thing and now the links are down. Oh well, I guess I'll keep em that way for now.

I think you should take up the possiblity to use ThunderGraft since you know that this campaign will expand over couple maps. It will also decrease the size a lot.

Can't wait for some screenshots of it too. smile.gif

If you intend to put music in there, I suggest you use my MPQ importing technology, so that people can play with others without having a 50 meg map and still hear music.

Tuxedo asked for designers for websites, that's what he's talking about wink.gif

I would like to help designing the web site. It'll gimme something to do. Now I'm not sure, but I think there's a pretty good chance, that Yoshi might know something about making webpages, so you could ask him as well wink.gif

No I dont know anything. I stole this website off Bolt and blackmailed him so he'd keep his mouth shut.

Let me guess, he's never made a map and he stole them all from his friend and you found out and that's what your blackmailing him with. JK.

Something on topic: Don't use geocities to host your page, use www.freewebs.com. There aren't any adds, you just need to have a link to their site on yours somewhere.
