Story

You are a member of a scientific spaceship. Your team has discovered an alien form of life on a distant planet, and now, you're taking it back to Earth. This alien form of life can take over any organism, by turning it's victim's cells into it's own. This creature broke free and infected someone. After taking over a human, it will look and act just like it's host did. It used the memory of one of the crew members it infected to block the controll room. This infection is spreading very fast. Chaos began, crew members armed themselves and formed survivor groups. Nobody knew who to trust. A bloody manhunt began. The infra-red scanners showed, that the alien's body temperature is 1.4 degrees higher than a humans's. This is the only way of detecting an alien in human form. The survivors sealed off the module to stop the einfection from spreading. Soon after, in the chaos, someone damaged the main reactor. Now the ship is low on power - only the basic systems work. The humans and aliens were killing eachother. The last group of survivors managed to take controll of the transmitter to send a message to Earth, telling what's happened and how to detect an alien in human form. But the transmitter didn't have enough power. They managed to reroute the remaining power to the transmitter. It will take 18 minutes to generate enough energy to send a transmission. Atleast one human must be alive after 18 minutes, to report what's happening to Earth. If not, the aliens, named The Thing, will just tell nothing, and Earth will be doomed.

3 minutes later, those who rerouted the power to the transmitter were killed by a Thing in human form that was among them.

Features

Gameplay
One random player is The Thing. If The Thing or an Infected One is near you, you will get an infection. If you die with an infection, you befome one of them, an Infected One. Al lthe Infected Ones and The Thing have two forms - human and alien, and can shift between them (morph) at any time. To morph, simply select the form you want to morph to and click anywhere on the map. To make this process even more simple, hotkey both forms. Only human forms can open/close doors.

-What's new in your map that others have not done before?

*Is flattered*

Some don't like it, though. It's just a matter of taste and preference.

I think the terrain is godly.. It could use some inhuman sounds or w/e to boost the creepines.

Wasn't this made a long time ago, like a year or two...The only thing different I see is terrain...errr... maybe I'm wrong?

There are countless versions of 'The Thing'... This one is more efficient and nicely terrained. I still haven't fixed my SC from when I was supposed to test tongue.gif

I like the terrain. Still haven't actually played the map though.

All the previous "The Thing" maps are VERY disbalanced or buggy. And not one of them has such cool terrain. tongue.gif

ADDITION:
I've done some public testing, and found a fiew minor problems:
  • The introduction text display - I accidentally set it so the deathcounter that is in charge of it is set to the force, thus making it display faster if there are more players in the game.
  • The doors - for some strange reason, the doors that were used to simply show tat the module is sealed off are open. It's not a big problem, but I still must fix it.
  • The actual version number does not match with the one given in the map name. tongue.gif

And the force name says it was done in 2007...

Good map, but I never understood why there are cars and tanks roaming around in a spaceship.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by JaFF on 2006-12-31 at 09:02:05
If you read the names, you'll see that Tanks are trucks. tongue.gif Trucks are needed to transport things from the dock to the ship. And to transport fuel from the fuel tanks to the reactor.

Updates: I've balanced out the terrain so all the players start at the same distance from the middle of the map. Also, I've fixed some small bugs, and made the intro shorter.

Haven't had a chance to play this yet but I've liked The Thing maps I've played so far with some minor reservations and it sounds like they are dealt with in this map. Also the whole space concept sounds like a good setting for "The Thing".
