In my last topic fritfrat gave the idea to place unplacable terrain underneath flag beacons so the flags don't appear. I tried to test it, but couldnt get any of the flags to appear
So my question is what causes the flags to appear on flag beacons. Is it when a trigger is fired on them, or is it soem sort of score.
get answering!
I don't really get the question.
However I think you are asking what makes the flags appear? It just happens after a set amount of time. As for the "place on unplacable terrain" I doubt that would work. If you place loads of beacons next to each other, partly stacked ( 1 pixel I think it is ) then they will still place the flags there stacked, so that leads me to believe that where you usually couldn't create flags, they can be placed by flag beacons.
Yes, I've seen that too, if you create something like a crystal or a flag it tends to stack, also causing units to get all boggled up since they have a crystal under them, but I haven't yet seen a flag on implacable terrain.
Flags are made after about 15 minutes and no matter what, they are still created. For example, if you play binary defense, after about 15 minutes you cant use the beacon anymore. There is no true way to stop this but I remember SWW or someone else talking about a way to go against it so you can stop the disabling of the beacon so you can COP it anywhere. Look around at sen and you might be able to find it.
Hmmm thats interesting, so you could stack flags on water in game... I guess I'll just have to stick with the good old remove all flags at anywhere method. Unless I can find what your talking about.
When I told him that idea, I told him it was just an idea I had and I hadn't actually tested it. Nor do I plan on sitting in a game for 10 fastest minutes to find out if it works
And I've never heard of any way to allow place COP after 10 minutes.
EDIT: Edited number from 15 to 10.. don't know how I got that mixed up, but I rarely ever use flags, so it makes sense.
Cops are placeable only 10 minutes into the game..as anyone who has played capture the flag game type would know.
Removing flags wont do any good in re-enabling the COP ability
Hmmm, I guess I can run SC in the back for a while and test your theory, so time to eat some oreos
EDIT:
Man... It sure seems like 10 minutes...
EDIT:
Just appear already! Gah!
ADDITION:
Wow, this is pretty cool, you see, I left the beacons there for a while, and i decided at start to COP some away, and none of them made flags, maybe starting on implacable terrain gets rid of them creating flags altogether? Someone else test and see if they get same results.

It takes about 15 minutes for the flag to appear. In his map, Beacon Defence, notice that the timer is 15 minutes?
The only real way to avoid it is just that...Flag beacons can be moved within the first ten game minutes. After the first ten minutes of play have elapsed, a flag is created on each flag beacon, and you can't move flag beacons any more, no matter what you try to do. It happens that way no matter what triggers, units, or score you have. In SWW's Beacon Defence, it's the same, he even gives you a message after ten minutes telling you that you can't place any more beacons for the last five minutes of play.
I'm not sure what happens in Fritfrat's theory - but I gather that you (Falkoner) tested it and found that the flags weren't created if the beacons started on unplaceable terrain? Was there any "Unit Unplaceable" message after ten game minutes?
Addition:
I just made a test map to see what would happen when COPs started on (i) unbuildable terrain (rocky ground) and (ii) unwalkable terrain (water), as compared to "normal" placement (dirt):
[attachmentid=22316]
In every case, a flag was created on each beacon after ten minutes no matter where it started or where it moved.
This seems to be different from Falkoner's results though - maybe because I haven't upgraded to the latest patch, or maybe because Falkoner didn't wait long enough?
I started at 5:56 and ended at 6:21 I COPed the beacons off the implacable terrain as soon as the game started and I never saw a unit implaceable and the other beacons I COPed off didn't create any either...
