Staredit Network -> StarForge -> Map´s crash when try to Start
Report, edit, etc...Posted by PatchOne on 2007-01-09 at 10:44:43
Hi out There!

i'm New to this Community, but not new in Mapping... i don't made any maps that anyone would know, but i know how to use triggers and more...

now i have a Problem... i Started a Project, to Revive the good old HGM, coz i don't know what happens to it! if i try to host one noone can join it, so i want to rebuild it and renew it with more features.

but now i have any crazy problems, i never had before...

i made the terrain, and added startpoints to have active players (logical smile.gif)
then i added some buildings to evade a direct lose, and i added all spawn locations . i´ve made just 1 trigger - not more - to try some spawn techniques.

now i try to test the map but everytime my starcraft crashes! i didn't tested it before, this is the first time in this map ... on melee mode all works fine , but just in UMS mode crashes. does i forgot something??

would be nice if anyone could help me!

sorry for my relative bad English, i'm german, and sorry if i failed to find the right topic.. i use starforge so i thought i can post it here!

regards PatchOne

I dont use starforge but some units causes crash and if i'm right, locations that are out of bounds causes crash too.

There could be a few problems:

1. You placed a unit out of bounds. Starforge doesn't check for this and its guaranteed to crash your map every time. If you cant tell if you've placed a unit out of bounds open it in another editor that does check like Staredit.

2. You're using extended player units or colors, a lot of these have changed since the patches and many crash the map. You may want to remove them from the map and use normal player colors until you know which ones are safe or not.

3. You're trying to play a sound and the string somehow got messed up. If I recall Starforge was never the friendliest program when it came to sounds in maps so double check to see if all your triggers with sounds all look normal still.

If all those fail I suggest you post the map.

Not that I've seen, actually people use out of bounds locations in some of their triggers - they should work fine.

okay thanks for the answers... but im 100% sure that

- no unit/sprite/anythingelse is out f bounds
- no oher players are used than 1-8 - there are just startpoints player 1-8 and a commandcenter for player 1 & 2

- no sounds or anything ... its a clean map, ive made the terrain, placed the startpoints & units in the middle and made the locations. then i made the trigger and that was all...

i could upload the map anyhere and anyone could download it to see what is wrong there..?

Edit: okay Map is attached...

Ah Null terrain I forgot about that one. Ask in map assistance or do a search in the tutorial database about it but there are certain types of null (black) terrain which are safe and certain types that will crash. It's been a long time since I've used it so I don't know whats safe to use.

okay i try it but just for information, if i start this map in .. melee mode it works.. so idk but i think the null terrain is not that problem...

Yeah you're right, I forgot about that. I'll take another look at it and see whats wrong.

ADDITION:
Found it. Starforge reset all your unit properties (or you did) to 0. One or more of these is causing SC to crash. Just set them all to default values until you're ready to edit them and it should work fine.

hmm i also think now that its not a problem from the map himself...

i maded a new one , normal badland terrain, 2 startpoints, 2 buildings , 1 location, 1 spawn unit trigger - but not work!

i think i try to reinstall starcraft ...

EDIT// Hell Yeah u Right! thx a lot !!

i deleted all units and the map works.. .but i dont see anything xD

I just remembered we have a tutorial for this also. Heres a list of reason why your map might crash for future reference.

Heyyy, you're a god!
You just find out the problems I had with my other maps created with StarForge...
P.S. Seriously, use SCMDraft! It's better!
