Staredit Network -> UMS Assistance -> Building trigger

Is there any trigger that you can order a unit owned by a computer to build a building? I want an scv to make a bunker, is there a trigger for that?

Simple answer. No.

Felino, I bet there is a complex, crazy and cycotic way to do just about anything. So don't say no immediatly if you haven't seen a topic on this question yet.

You could probably use some sort of AI script to get an scv to make it, but I think it would have to build something first, also, once it gets to the point that u have a bunker, you can give the units that have been afected by that Ai to someone else, then give them back to disable the AI script. The only problem is, which AI script?? tongue.gif

deathknight is quite knowledgable in this area, PM him(i haven't seen him for a long while). his account is 'l-inspecteur chocolat' or something along those lines.

I agree, just not on this one. You would need to comply with all the conditions in the Ai script, and then if it does decide to build a bunker, there is now way of making it build it on a certain location. I suppose, you could let it keep building and building untill it gets in in the right place I guess. huh.gif

Very true, could you explain more? Lets just narrow it down a lil bit, there IS no way to just have 1 scv go to a location and build a bunker there. Maybe you should just create the bunker?

Getting an SCV to build something at a certain time in a certain place would be extremely difficult, if not impossible. I'd suggest going with Falkoner's idea and just creating the bunker. If necessary, you can improve the simulation by, say, giving the SCV to another player, waiting before the bunker appears, requiring resources to activate the trigger, etc. However having the SCV actually build the bunker is essentially impossible as far as I know.

How about this ultra complex idea... At the beginning of a game, you have an AI building a base containing a bunker using an AI script. You time the bunker, and when the timer runs out, you remove the SCV building it, and bring the bunk to another place. When you want an SCV to build a bunk, you move the bunks at various states to the location. Unfortunatly, if a bunk is destroyed mid-construction, you're screwed.

Either that, or make a mod.

No. The question's been asked plenty of times and people have suggested many things, but the closest thing possible (without mods) is to use a Create Unit action with some fancy explosions or other effects to "fake" a construction.

You could always experiment with the AI scenarios and see if u give them buildings in some far off land and the requirements to make a bunker, they make it. But as many have said in this, there is no way found to do it.

You figure it out and you'll be praised.

Does the computer nessesarily have to build it? If it has to, then your chances of it working are slim.

An alternative method is just to move a pre-placed bunker there. Therefore no building is needed, and it's there when you need it.

Another way was seen in "True Tricks" Where you make the player build it in order to continue playing the game.

Otherwise you're on your own. tongue.gif I'm bad with Ai scripting; the only things I've gotten to work are the simple "enter bunker" and "junk yard dog" ones xD

I have got two ideas. What if instead of building a bunker make the computer to build a supply on its base (which is much easier) and then to move building supply to the place where the bunker should be and when the supply is finished create a bunker on its place. And the second idea is to create SCV and to run an AI script Harvest Town on the location which makes the computer build a Command Center there. And when the CC is finished to replace it with bunker.

Well, I tried to make a test map and faied with both. The problem with the first idea is that you CANNOT ranting.gif move the unfinished terrain building... cry.gif And if you could you should somehow tell the computer to finish it at its new place, if the construction cancels during the movement (mabe scrip Harvest Town could help, dont know). The second idea works fine when you make one CC but then AI scripts shuffle and the computer dont want to build CC at the exatclty that place where you told him to do it. disgust.gif If there was a way to cancel those AI scripts (such as clear combat data for orders)... ermm.gif

But I find out another interesting thing smile.gif (maby you guys already know about it) that when giving the building which is under the construction the construction would not cancel and the computer will finish it for another player.

Here is my experamental map... Have you got any Ideas how to get around this...

I knew about the player thing for a while. DL 'Island Invasion' and try building two bunks next to each other. But you can't resume it.

HAAY I MADE THAT MAP! tongue.gif

Yeah there may be certain triggers for that possibility. Il try to patch u in. wink.gif

I gotta personally congratulate you on that map. It's one of the best maps I've played on B.net. Not ridiculously complex, but very fun. Unfortunatly, there are too many quitters on B.net to get a full game going.
