Staredit Network -> Staff Lounge -> Clarification on Map Spotlight

Has it since become reserved for contest entries or can it be used for highlight maps? I'm seeing the occasional sticky for production or release maps that I'm thinking probably could be better featured as spotlight instead of sticky (or news, like my unfinished MechnoGears map was pinch.gif ).

Not that it's a problem, given how infrequent high quality map releases are, but I'm just wondering about it.

I haven't seen many good maps being released lately other then a few maps, one of them being MechnoGears. Alot of maps kinda good in one area and lacking others. Maybe spotlight can alter every 3 weeks =/ whoknows. I guess hard pick a map for spotlight because need lower your standards alittle then what at, i know i have lower my when i play some people's maps. I wonder what going happen to spotlight now hmm..

Problem with spotlighting in the past though has been stagnation. One or several maps would get spotlighted, but then end up staying there for months either without new maps to replace them or just because no one's bothered.

I'm wondering if a monthly/weekly poll for spotlight map wouldn't work?

I think that any "really good" mod or map should make it into the spotlight. Having the DLDB Keepers take initiative, on the other hand...

We definitely tried that once. It was supposed to be a monthly update, but finding 3 good maps every month was apparently harder than we thought.

Yeah, it would be better if there was more maps going through the spotlight. Try to at least add 1 per week.

What if from now on we made a poll (or at least a review) of all the DLDB submissions for the week and put them up as news? Then we'd take the top submissions and put them up as spotlights (more than one if they're good).

I'll think about setting up something like that later on.

Polls in a topic would quickly become a total mess.

A better idea would be to just browse the map showcase and choose 3 recent good maps.

I was thinking that but the DLDB is the "formal" way of submitting maps so it's probably more correct to do it with that.

ADDITION:
Guys if I took some time to start something like this could I get help with front page spotlights to go with it? I'm thinking I'll do this soon when I get a break to set it up.
