Staredit Network -> UMS Assistance -> [SOLVED] Gun Trap
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Puddin on 2007-01-15 at 14:02:07
I'm making a map on installation, and I need help with this stupid gun trap. Whenever I place it, it's given to player 1, but I want it given to player 6, how can I make it so it's given to player 6 without using a trigger?

Select it, press Enter (or rightclick>properties) and then change the player to 6.

what editor are you using?

Some editors have a small box in the upper panel. You choose a player in that box. All units you place are set for the player selected in the box. SCMDraft2 has this for sure. I don't remember about SF, though.

PLease dont tell you are using the normal editor disgust.gif if you do, just download the X-tra editor for begginers or SCMdraft/StarForge for experienced, its in the DLDB happy.gif

The way for doing this with the normal editor is while in unit layer to select "player 6" in the dropdown menu along the top of the screen, then select doodad layer.

I use ScmDraft 2. I tried using the player selector box, but that didn't work either. As desperate as I was, I tried using Normal StarEdit. When THAT didn't work... disgust.gif
Maybe I'll HAVE to use triggers?

You could try 1 trigger.
Always
Give (the gun trap to player 6 at anywhere or location, just use one you move later.)

Place it as a unit, not a doodad?

You'd generally always want to place them as units; I said the doodad method for choosing players because that's what you had to do back in the days before all the other editors came out.

Selecting the player from the player drop down menu and placing the gun trap as a unit should make it owned by that player. Maybe you have a trigger that gives it to another player running..?

Well, I guess I'm gonna have to use triggers then.. Thanks for your help anyways. If you come up with any solutions that don't have anything to do with triggers, tell me. wink.gif

Perhaps a visual???

Step 1:
In the top menus, go to units, and then pick Player 6.

Step 2:
In the left menu go to Units-->Neutrual-->Doodads-->Floor Gun Trap.

Step 3:
Create your floor gun trap and select it.

Step 4:
Right click and go down to Properties.

Step 5:
Make sure your unit is owned by Player 6.

If that doesn't work I don't know what will, this is a very simple thing to do.

What I meant to get at in my last post is, is there a trigger running that's giving it from player 6 to player 1 at the start of the game?

Meh i ONLY use Starforge and its pretty neat at these kind of things.

Like in it u can select what units will belong to who and u switch the units ownership with a single number!
