heres some theories i thought of
Starcraft Halo
Terrans Humans
Protoss Covenants
Zerg Flood
Seige Tank Scorp Tank
Overmind Gravemind
Infested Terr Carrier Form
ill keep updating this when i think of more
Meh... Starcraft shares a lot more with much older entertainment. I.E. the Corsair has a whole bunch of lines that pertain to the StarTrek: First Contact movie. There are also a lot of similarities to Starship Troopers and other Sci Fi literature...
Meh, all games are similar now a-days. You cant look at one game, and be able to say "Thats a fresh, brand new idea." They all relate to one another some how.
The majority of StarCraft is based on Aliens, and Warhammer 40,000.
There arnt very many similariies between sc and halo,i mean those 5 things you stated are about it.But hell, i got one,
zergling-maybe a grunt
zealot-elite w/sword
carrier-cov. dropship

Wow, you must have been thinking lot to find out that one mate! Har har.
Great novels, books, movies, and ideas often influence more novels, books, movies, and ideas.

Thats like 100% true. You cant really find some new things these days without noticing that its been done in other games.
Gammon, I also agree with you because you decide to use a certain idea and transform it so your able to use it into your books/movies/ideas/maps/games.
Why would you want to compare Halo and Starcraft?
RTS... and FPS...
Yep, they have alot of things in common....
blah things are always simuler between games
Except for Portal.
Never forget Portal.

Halo Wars is why people are talking about it. And you can still talk about the universe. Splinter Cell is a stealth game but it has a lot to do with Rainbox Six or Ghost Recon.
They're similar because they're sci-fi. Period.
StarCraft basically got its races from Warhammer 40k (The Dark Elder, Space Marines, and Tyranids - I mean, come on!) Halo is generic in so very many ways - story, gameplay, and especially that awful level design where every single freaking room looks the exact same!
The Overmind = God
!
Zerg mostly cheap and easy to kill like the flood
Protoss more expensive and stronger like the covenant
There are also a lot of names used in Halo that are the same as Starcraft although the names are common like : Drone, Wraith, Ghost, Marine

Master Chief - Raynor ;o

Pfft Raynor = random guy who is incapable of living and equally incapable of dying. Howdy boys is not badass
Master Chief = random guy who dies a lot and somehow or other after several hundred deaths makes it through the hardest difficulty. Though probably not several hundred, a lot less usually, lets just do it based on the maximum number of deaths is probably 40,000 and the minimum number is 20 or so.
Terrans = Humans, I wonder why that could be? Perhaps we should analyze prefixes, but no wait, terrans are in reality aliens who aren't from Earth, they're from Terra!
Is the game that similar to Halo? Not too much, its just traditional humans vs. aliens, and there being 3 races doesn't really change all that much, its filled with cliches and what have you, but it does have decent voice acting
Halo and Starcraft are both large segments of programming, printed onto portable disks, which when read by advanced processing equipment, which uses human interface devices as well as artificial audio and visual devices to give the impression of a combat simulation.
Now do you get it?

Actually, Terrans could be from "Terre", which is french for "Earth", it probably also could come from the english word "Terrestrial". And is probably similar in other languages, too. Terran actually makes more sense than human, since human is merely english.
Ok, here's a handy-dandy list of earth in other languages
- French - Terre
- Italian - Terra
- Spanish - Tierra
Get my point? Terrans makes more sense than Earthans, or Earthlings, or whatever, since Earth is just english. Note that these are all the codecs I can read.
Note that what I said was a joke, hence the denotation of prefixes. Terra is the more common word in literature, which is why I use it in reference to earth in my post.
Using a non-sarcastic point of view often helps tell what's going on.
Hey I can't help but be satirical, but most of the post was at least somewhat interpretable as part of the topical discussion
As has been mentioned already, Starcraft is far more similar to the Warhammer 40,000 tabletop game than Halo.
Terrans = Space Marines/Imperial Guard (the unit graphics are heavily based on SM infantry designs and IG vehicle designs.)
Zerg = Tyranids or aliens from Alien
Protoss = Eldar
To be honest though, you get similar races in many games or pieces of science fiction:
The rough, tough old humans = Terrans
The unstoppable horde of slavering monsters = Zerg
The aliens that are few in number but have elite technology = Protoss
I guess you have that in Halo as well.
