I don't know if some members are just bored or something, but the number of random sounds awaiting approval currently outnumber everything else totaled.

Should we keep hosting them? I really don't think too many people will miss them.

lol, I've never really liked doing anything with the sounds people upload.

It would be nice to simply have like notification sounds and effects like that in the database, and get rid of the mario/matrix/zelda/specific sounds and themes.

Yeah, probably ok to get rid of them. Most people get their sounds either from other games, other maps, or by downloading them from sites that host them in quantity.

Besides, some of the sounds being hosted could theoretically have copyright issues.

And probably do.

My views on the sounds in the database are pretty simple:
Low size. If it's like 1mb+, it probably can be deleted on those grounds alone.
Versatility. If it's a sound people can only use one their own map, it gets tossed. Good things = foot steps, door sounds, explosions, etc... not like the theme song to Men in Black.

I've always found that the sounds section is what I've used least.
Perhaps we could remove the sounds section from the DLDB and announce that the Misc.->File Request is to be used for finding sound files ( assuming it isn't already, since I haven't seen what goes on there since its last reincarnation ) .
