Specifications

Players
Either 6 or 8.. still trying to decide.

Tileset
Badlands

Size
192 x 192
I want the battle to be huge.

Introduction

On February of 1945, the U.S. Marines and Navy landed on the island of Iwo Jima to conquer the airstrips on the island. The Battle of Iwo Jima lasted for 40 days, causing approx. 20,000 Japanese deaths and 7,000 American deaths.

Features

Interface
Each player will be given time to set up the defense / offense, depending on which side they pick (the given time will be 5 - 10 minutes). The objective of the defending Japanese Imperial Army is to halt the American assault for 45 minutes (StarCraft time). The objective of the attacking American army is to conquer Mt. Suribachi and the two airfields before the 45 minutes is up.

New Stuff
I think it's the first war-based map to allow the players to choose what they want to do, like what spot to land in, what kind of traps to lay on beaches (land mines, mortar targeting, etc), and of course, it'll be newb-friendly.

Details

I'm still working on the details of the battle..

Terran Marine - "U.S. Marine [M1A1 Thompson]"
Terran Ghost - "U.S. Marine [Springfield]"

Terran Firebat - "U.S. Marine [Flamethrower]"

Screenshots

Damn, its looking nice, especially with the fully featured benefit of placing what you wish for the Japanese Team.

I know this is off-topic but I loved Iwo Jima on Battlefield 1942 lol so I hope this will be just as good!

Best of luck with it.

I'd recomend 6 players, with the option of having 8. That way, you have to get less people in a game to play. I'll beta test if you want.

This looks good. Good luck and hurry up.

Looks good, and good to see a map that's not based on an amreican side of view.

Off-Topic:
Lol, me, Chris, and Moogle revived NGM on USWest for about 2 days and we just stopped sad.gif but we're in new clans now biggrin.gif

On-Topic

Yeah, this map is more focused on the Japanese side, because I personally think that their side has a better reason for fighting this battle.

wow sounds awesome happy.gif

So you planning to make it a b.net game or more of a complex game? Like Rush for example.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by ShizTheresABear on 2007-01-23 at 20:20:57
It SHOULD be newb friendly because more experience and strategical players shouldn't have an automatic advantage over people who are new to the map, or who aren't the greatest strategists in the world..

The defensive / offensive set-up will be easy to understand, you just need to have some common knowledge of math (like.. 100 minerals times 10 land mines = 1,000 minerals). Everything SHOULD be pretty self explanatory, but there will also be some kind of.. text guidance.. because some people can be pretty stupid.

And it's going to be a B.Net game and not complex like Rush. I'm gonna try to make it as war-like as possible.. which is pretty hard on StarCraft.

Don't turn it into a zombie looking map xD I've seen enough maps turn out to look like that because of an overusage of zealots, even though you dont have any...it can still happen O_O

Hey there!

wow,looks very nice!

Really, the selection of the sides and the defences/offences options like mines, mortar targ. and all these has been a great idea.I like all type of details, skills and options like that happy.gif

Oh i've got some ideas for that options, like Air Strikes,Para-Bombs,Stationary Heavy Machine Guns or you could put a Gas-Attack for avoid the enemy shots for example. wink.gif (i hope that i helped you)

I like the units too! Especially the names, all are realistic and historical weapons,so good idea! happy.gif .But im sure that you could find more names for Bazookas or flamethrowers)

And dont' forget to put some suiciders units like Kamikazes Soldiers,or (i heart surprises attacks or soemthin' like that) an elite unit that attack the American units whit katanas.I just dunno where i saw that info, but anyway, could be a nice idea.

And this map will have events, historical info and all these like in other maps that i've played? Will be Air-Units?

The terrain could be very playable, coz you can put some secret traps or play whit the camouflage.

Well good luck whit this map!

I really like it! blushing.gif

See you buddy! wink.gif

From what I read, everything by the Japanese was all strategically planned out... without involving any katana soldiers.

Basically it's like... the Lt. General ordered his troops not to attack the boats and not to attack any infantry until they were 500m into the island, then they would attack with all of their anti-tank, machine guns, mortars, and anything else they had.

And yes, there are better names than "Bazooka" or "Flamethrower" but.. the name's won't fit.. and everybody knows what a Bazooka and Flamethrower are anyways.. they're basically all the same.

Here's a list of the possible options that each side can use

Japanese:
Land Mines
Mortars (Player will be able to select where the mortars will fire)
Hidden Gun Emplacements
Stationary Machine Guns (Player will have to manually fire?)

Americans:
Landing position (They choose where they want to land their troops)
Air Strike
Naval Bombardment

As for the historical events.. there's not much that happened.. basically the only thing that was "historical" was the raising of the flag on Mt. Suribachi. The most important thing was the battle itself.

I'm thinking about giving the Americans air units, since they actually did have airplanes during the battle met with heavy anti-air from the Japanese, but I'm not too sure yet. I'm going to wait until im about 50% into the map to finally decide.

ADDITION:
Along with the Japanese mortars, the player will have to buy mortar ammunition if they want to keep using it (to prevent spawn killing). I was also thinkin they would have to buy machine gun ammunition, but I don't think triggers can get that advanced sad.gif

Here's a sample of what playing the American side will be like.. (I'm still brainstorming)

1. Buy the troops you want to send
2. Load them into a boat
3. Send the boat to the beach.. with cover if necessary
4. Land the boat on the beach (bring it next to the beach)
5. Kill some Japanese? (I guess..)

And the Japanese side..

1. Buy traps and whatever to prepare for battle
2. Buy troops you want and place them around the island (there will also be pre-placed troops)
3. Kill some Americans? (I guess..)

Really,if i were you,ill put more skills or tactical actions. For example build mines-areas,makeshift barricades or somethin' like that.

Mmm,yah why not? Put them! Is more attractive and looks better whit air forces, and is always more realistic whit planes and all these.

And you cant' forget the heavy-grounds units. Will have tanks, trucks, jeeps etc...rigth? What happen whit them?

Oh! Other thing! This map will have sounds?

Good luck! for now, looks nice! wink.gif

See you!

I'd really like to see screenshots. I want to get a "feel" of the map, as I call it. Know what it is like, it's interface and such. It seems just like Call of Duty games, shooter games, except with the setting up defence/offence you are using.
