[Boomerang Launchers]

[Map Specifications]
Players - 2-4
Tileset - Jungle
Type - Arena
Dimensions - 96x96
Current file size - ~93 KB
Author - Kyuubi.

[Description]
You control a defiler (your boomerang launcher) and a scourge (the target or aim your boomerang will fly to and back).  Objective is to try and hit other player's defiler with your boomerang which will lower their hit points (on leaderboard).

[Controls and Features]
-Each player has 100 hit points on the leaderloard.  A player's hit points reduced to 0 will be eliminated obviously.
-To launch, you have to burrow.  When you burrow, you will launch a boomerang(interceptor) to your scourge, then you will unburrow.  You can't launch another boomerang until you get it back.
-The scourge has a range limit where it can travel from the
defiler.  It will fly back to the defiler if it goes out of range of the defiler or the arena boundaries.

-Cast 'Dark Swarm' on a '» ? « 'box to open it. Power ups are explained below.
-Casting 'Dark Swarm' on other defiler's will have no effect on them, only boxes.
  -Indications:
Minerals - Armor Points
Gas - An enchantment power-up is stored or in use.
Attack Level - Displayed near your flag.  Shows how many 'attack + 1' power-ups you have currently picked up.  Can hold a maximum of 5.

[Power-Ups]
There will be power-up boxes(the '» ? «' labeled data discs) that spawn randomly around the arena.  They will spawn at different time rates.  They can spawn 2-3 boxes at once or it will take a while for them to spawn.  Cast 'Dark Swarm' on the boxes to open it but the effects will vary when opened.

The power-ups are still being created,  here's a list of what they do:

[x] - Restore HP targets - Zerglings will pop out of the box where it was opened and roam around the arena. For every Zergling you kill with your boomerang, you will recover 6 hit points. It will not exceed over 100 hit points though.
Note: Recovery rates may change.
Spawn Chance - 11.111%

[x] - Prism - A prism will be placed where the box was.  Shoot a boomerang at it and it will scatter into more boomerangs and fly around the field for a few seconds.  They will disappear with only one left and return back to you.
Note: This power-up must be fired at with a boomerang and at a minimum range of 4 grid squares for it to work or else your boomerang will just go through it.
Spawn Chance - 11.111%

[x] - Armor - You will gain 10 armor points(represented by minerals)
when hit, your minerals will go down.  Your hit points will be safe until your minerals hit 0.

Spawn Chance - 11.111%

[x] - Attack + 1 - This will increase your the damage of your boomerang when you hit enemies permanently unless you get hit by a boomerang that has negation enchantment active.  Your damage can be upgraded to a max of 5 times.  When already upgraded to the max, you won't be able to pick up another one(though it'll disappear, so that other players won't be able to pick it up). At no upgrades it does 3 damage per hit.  With one upgrade it does 4 damage per hit.  For each upgrade, the damage increases by 1 per hit.
Spawn Chance - 11.111%

[x] - Restore Energy - This will restore the launcher's dark swarm energy to 100%, I know it's annoying to want to open the boxes, but just don't have the energy to.  So this might help.
Spawn Chance - 11.111%

[x] - Armor Piercing(AP) Enchantment - Enchants boomerang with the ability to damage other player's regardless of any defensive power-ups(like armor) when they are hit for 30 seconds.  It will inflict damage on both armor and hit points.  It will also cause even more damage if they have 0 armor to begin with.  Useful power-up so use it wisely.
Only one enchantment can be used at a time, so you can't gain another one if you already have one.
Spawn Chance - 11.111%

[x] - Negation Enchantment - Enchants boomerang with the ability to dispel and reset any added effects(like attack + 1 power-ups) to 0 when hit for 30 seconds.
Only one enchantment can be used at a time, so you can't gain another one if you already have one.
Spawn Chance - 11.111%

[x] - Mist Enchantment - Enchants boomerang with a mist aura.  Enemies that are hit with a boomerang while it's active will slow down their walking speed a bit.  Lasts only for 30 seconds.
Only one enchantment can be used at a time, so you can't gain another one if you already have one.
Spawn Chance - 11.111%

[x] - Empty Box - A chance that when you open a box, nothing will appear.
Spawn Chance - 11.111%

Notes on enchantments:  Enchantment power-ups are rare.  Only one type will spawn at a time.  That will mean no multiples of the same enchantment power-ups will be on the arena field at the same time.

(Planning)
[ ] - Fire Enchantment - Enchants boomerang with fire for 30 seconds.  It can do additional damage if other player's are hit with the fire explosions.
Only one enchantment can be used at a time, so you can't gain another one if you already have one.
Spawn Chance - ?%

[ ] - Range Scope - Extend's the maximum range of the boomerang that can be thrown for 30 seconds.  You can move the target(scourge) further than before.
Spawn Chance - ?%

[ ] - HP + 10 - Restores hit points by 10. Hit points will not exceed over 100.  I will make this power-up have a very small chance of spawning.
Spawn Chance - ?%

[ ] - Double Boomerang - Let's you shoot two boomerangs at once on your next throw.
Spawn Chance - ?%

Intresting map. I like the prism item tongue.gif. But I think its pretty harsh. This map seems kind of similar to Cannon Arena though. Anyways good luck

SCREENSHOTS!!

prism isn't that overpowered. it's more of an area effect that lasts for a few seconds and it won't do too much damage. i never seen cannon arena, mind if you show or tell me what it is?

i'll post some screenshots if i happen to find the right time to take some. the map is more than half done. only things needed are the victory/defeat triggers and the finishing touch-ups. but i still need more ideas for power ups.

This is pretty cool, I like the idea. It reminds me of some map where you control a shuttle and launch the interceptors at people in a certain direction, I can't remember the map name though sad.gif.

Sounds like a really good idea. But you need to give us screenshots, or we won't beleive you.

Ok, maybe we'll beleive you, just not as enthousiastically as we otherwise would.

well there you go, a few screenshots. they were a tad hasty though.

That too tongue.gif.

Anyways, do you get items from throwing the boomerang at it or do you gotta touch with defiler?

most of the time, you get items after touching it. only item that needs to be hit with a boomerang in order for it to work is the prism. though i can make the effect happen when you touch the prism, but it wouldn't make any sense that way. mellow.gif

i have some new power-up ideas that i'm going to put in. i think those enchantment power-ups should make the map a tad more interesting.

Wow, that looks fun. I guess unfortunatly for me, I wan't to play, and I have to wait! crybaby.gif

i added in another enchantment type power-up. tell me what you think of them. i have fully put the triggers in for everything else. the more power ups there are, the less likely the one your hoping to get won't show up. though that makes it pretty fun. adding in 3 more will give them all the power ups an equal chance of spawning.

I've played it.. and it's actually pretty fun biggrin.gif

I didn't get to see all of the powerups, but so far so good biggrin.gif

Can you post a Demo map to download?
Or send it to meh by PM... I'll test it!
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Kyuubi. on 2007-01-27 at 19:12:12
thanks, i think there like only 2 when you tested it., and when the prism thing got kinda glitchy but i think i fixed it.

tasks left is to put in to put in the current ideas for power-ups in, add in victory/defeat triggers, and do the finishing/polishing touches. of course, i'll update this when i have more ideas of the powerups.

ADDITION:
added 2 power-ups ingame. tested and fully functional and i like it so far. updated first post to have indicators. will also post some more screenshots soon.

i will have that displayed in objectives screen.
i have now released it, you can download it on the first post. though it is done up to this moment and can be playable, there is always room to add more content. so anyway, enjoy.

report any glitches or bugs, as well as some feedback if you'd like.
though i didn't put this in the first post, there is stuff that might be mistaken for glitches here they are:
-Your boomerang can have a chance for critical shots(depending on how you shoot it. It just flies around two or three times before it returns to you.
-the auto-unburrow will make you stuck there for a few miliseconds til you get your boomerang back.

if your talking about the targetting, you'll get used to it if you play it a bit. i don't find it that hard to control. you'll familiarize the range of it and get used to it. scourge won't travel far too but it won't always come back to you unless you want it to. some people that i've tested with said targetting was hard, but they're getting pretty good at it now.

I played that map five time yesterday... it was cool!

1st play : Just for fun and see how the game work
2nd : Testing multiple things and see if some glitches work...
3rd : Trying to find bugs
4th : Playing it without triggers activate ("Continue playing" when the game end)
5th : Trying to get a FH (Full House) game to see the lag rate and the work of swarm things and boomerang rush, etc...

What I found :

At my first play : That it was a cool map tongue.gif
2nd : I didn't has the time to test it, but I think that if you launch your boomerang and burrow before it come back... the boomerang is removed and it launch a second one...
3rd : When you unburrow... you Defiler is ALWAYS oriented to the right of the map... it slow you to run away to the left side...
4th : I've took my scourge and I fooled around... what I founded : there is one place that it doesn't have the 2 spells pre-placed... I think it was at the purple's place (bottom right, as I remember).
5th : Only one person joined happy.gif

Well... that's it... I hope I has helped you... And don't forget to put my name in credits... I didn't saw it pinch.gif

Continue your good work!

those aren't really bugs. kinda related to the critical shot thing.
there are empty spots for power-ups.but not everything is there. if i happen to put in more power-ups, i'll use those spots. i mentioned some stuff in the other post that might be mistaken for glitches or bugs.

I've played the version you've submitted for the contest of January and I found 5 things you should fix :
1st : When you are near to a Prism and you try to use it, it won't work (you need to be at more then a square of 2x2)!
2nd : When you use Prism and that all the Boomerangs (else then your original one) are still in the map, if you burrow, you won't attack and won't unburrow.. this is a MAJOR bug!

3rd : When you use Prism, there are SERIOUSLY more boomerang going on left/right side then top/bottom...
4th : Zerglings goes too much in the edge of the map

5th : My name isn't intester biggrin.gif (credits)

Color priority :
QUOTE
Red : NEED to be fixed
Orange : You should fix these to make your map more balanced
Green : Optional fix, but would enhance your map

There... I had good time playing that.. it's SERIOUSLY a good game!

P.S. You cannot upgrade the unburrowing speed! happy.gif

ADDITION:
Oops! oops.gif
Forget the 1st bug I noticed... I didn't saw that :

You should add a Random Pack that contain 2 random spells in it!

Adding a Random pack would make it cheap for some people. Like having a random chance of getting a certain item which are good. And their not spells...

Well after playing it with Lethal. I was very good at aiming cause you had to keep track of two units and being fast along with being good with dodging. But other than that I really liked the map. Also when the Hp (Zerglings) pop out, how do you heal yourself? Do you swarm on them or go near them?
