Okay, I plan to make a map. Basically I'm using this thread to show you each step I take in the map. I may not finish it, but I hope to.

Right now, all I know is that the map needs to have Disruption Webs and/or Dark Swarms because it's for a contest. I'm thinking of doing something relatively standard to what I normally do, but we'll see. I plan to make it a 4 players map, and maybe use D-Webs where highground walls would normally be.

Stay tuned...

Update One:

I decided to try out that symmetry tool, which turned out to have made things go really fast. However, as it is I'm not really happy with the natural setup, and I don't really know what I want to do with the rest of the map yet, so I'm going to open it up and paint and screw around a little.

Update Two:

I only did one draft, and it seems okay. I don't think this map is going to turn out to be anything special thought. Black loops are D web.

Update Three:

I'm planning on putting a mineral wall here to help Zerg with balance. However, I will need to check unit pathing to make sure it doesn't mess things up. If it does, I will either edit the walls a little, or balance it some other way (with a creep colony perhaps).

Update Four:

I had to modify the naturals a bit, but I think they're better this way anyhow. I'm starting to have a lot more confidence in this map.

Update Five:

The D-Web sprites aren't working. Seeking technical assistance now. =@

Update Six:

Got it to work. Was a major setback waiting for the solution, but will try to remember where I left off =S

Update Seven:

Finished doing ground work. Now I need to get the decoration. This will be difficult, because I've never done a desert map before =S

Update Eight:

Put in some crags... vamped the mains a bit. Going to try putting doodads on now.

Update Nine:

Well, it's decorated now. Time to post it on multiple sites to try and gage what the public thinks of it.

Cheers,

Update Ten:

Ah ****.. I just opened it up in sc and it turns out doodads I thought were buildable aren't... gotta re deco a lot of it now..

Update Eleven:

Well, it sucks that I had to get rid of so many doodads, but there isn't much I can do. As far as I know there aren't any walkable sand dunes doodads.

Update Twelve:

I found out what doodads are walkable smile.gif

Put a swarm smack dab in the middle.
Heres another idea, swarm with d-web, kinda like a safe-spot. I think I could implement that in a cool way.
Be careful with swarm though. I feel like it could turn the tide a little easily.

I don't really want to put swarms because they're either in a place no one can use them for deco, or just a random advantage for Zerg in ZvT. You can't stack spells.

ADDITION:
Yup so... V1.0 complete. That's how I make maps. Hope you enjoyed it.

Looks fantastic. I'm gonna play this as soon as I get some time, and a working comp again. I can't wait to play a map this good looking with D-webs.
w00t.
