We're closing off a year of these contests. So, we're going to have to do something completely insane. To highlight my personal insanity, you will only have four days to make your map(s). Maps will be judged by me or anyone I deem fit to judge the maps.

January's Theme: Does This Theme Suck, Too?
We're closing off a year full of contests. So, just make a map. Any kind of map that doesn't violate the guidelines.

Guidelines
» Must be an original map not made prior to the contest. Steal a map or send in an old one and I'll eat your children.
» Make your map whatever size you like.
» No map over 1MB (1024 kb).
» Any number of players acceptable.
» No team projects.
» No modded maps (SCMLoader, etc).
» You may submit up to three different entries, but only the highest scoring entry will be placed and recieve a prize.
» No entry fees.
» Feel free to protect your map. The playing end is emphasized far more than the creation end. I usually only open up maps to make fun of them.

DEADLINE: Maps are due at 11:59 PM, EST, on January 31st.

Submitting...
You may submit any amount of copies of a map, and the last valid one recieved will the one judged for the contest.
1. PM me the map as an attachment.
2. Attach the map to a post here (I download all attachments that seem like contest entries from this thread).
3. Attach the map to another post or topic and PM me the link or post a link here.
4. PM me a link to the map in the DLDB.
5. PM or post me a link to your map on some external host.

Judging Criteria
Theme (0) - You'll really have to try to mess this one up. It's zero points, so it doesn't even matter if you do. But, you can't. Seriously.

Fun (30) - Most of the time, the deciding factor in contest entries. Important for me as I'm playing the map. Am I running around having a good time, or watching a unit talk to itself in a movie? Are there huge bugs that prevent play of the maps? Are there cool new systems and spells and difficulty levels and such things to keep the game interesting? Replay value is a plus for this score. If I ever go to this map again, is it going to be to play it over and over and give to my friends or to delete the scm/scx?

Aesthetics and Professionalism (20) - Did you use one type of terrain tile and no text color? Are there mispellings distracting me at every turn with some poorly made triggers? Hopefully you can create something that looks and feels decent. I'm not asking for extensive extended terrain or hundreds of sprites, a map that seems well-made should score well. On the subject of professionalism, please PLAYTEST your maps before submission. Nothing looks dumber than a map that obviously hasn't been tested. Having lots of bugs will definitely lower your score here.

Yeah, you thought I'd just make you do this for fun? Prestiege? Honor? HAH!

First place: 1200 minerals
Second place: 600 minerals
Third place: 300 minerals
First, Second, and Third place entries all go into the Map Spotlight on the front page.
Noteworthy Mention*: 150 minerals
*to be given at my discretion. Nobody has to win these.

31st? No, I'm not kidding. If 30 minute mapping contests can produce playable maps, and you have four days, you can make a good map. Just try instead of wasting time posting about how there isn't enough time.

Maybe add (within the rules) to your theme section Or I might come back, "What, I can't enter my 10mb SCMLoaded map?"

When you told me you had a great theme that nobody would object to, my first response was "Somebody will find a way to" and then I read and it was no theme lolz. Then you commented on the 4 day and I agree people will object to it, but hey if you can't make a map in four days, dont bother complaining about it -- just don't enter.

Well, I object to the theme! No theme? How can this be? It defeats the purpose of pointed mapping contests!

The only problem with the date is im sure alot of people wont even see the post untill a day before the contest is over so there might be a small number of participants.

Mark my words, im finishing a map for this contest. Ive got one that needs about 50 triggers and its done.

A week would be better.

>.< ouch 4 days, i'm usually fine with small time except for the terrain. I hate terrain making XD. Once i finish with that though i'd probably fine with whatever deadline.

I believe you have 4 days means you have 4 days to make a map not finish one off :l

Correction:

THE very FIRST guideline says: "» Must be an original map not made prior to the contest. Steal a map or send in an old one and I'll eat your children." I think finishing a map would fall under a map prior the contest.
