CSMAPers in general are with you. I won't support you, I like open mapping, only I don't like OSMAP (strange huh?).

Why? Osmap has nothing to do with open mapping at all.

My point being we need to have some sort of map protection. it should be up to the authors to decide whether their map can be stolen. not someone else.

You are right Pyro-Fire. But let's not discuss OSMAP once again, continue this topic as it is supposed to be is better.

yes.

i've downloaded the osmap source, and i'd also like the source code of an unprotector...
i'd ask DoA but hes already doing enough with firegraft.

OSMap is an unprotector tongue.gif

Lol... I'm against that!
We NEED to be able to unprotect maps... for multiple reasons :
- Unstack the game title
- Fix a bug by your own because you can't contact the creator
- Etc...
People that steal maps are gay... it's true! But when they steal a map, it's not a lil' map that nobody wants to play, it's a big map that people like that they want to gime them all the credits... but when people play it alot... they usually know the creator!
So... I'M AGAINST PROTECT PROGRAM!

It's a waste of time, do you realize that the OSMap code will simply be upgraded to counter this new kind of protection?

That is, assuming they KNOW how to bypass the new protection.

Besides, there are existing methods of protection that have already bested OSMAP, just that they are not public.

Since OSMAP has its source code released, it's best to find flaws in its coding and develop a protection method utilizing that disadvantage.

You know, a perfect 'OSMap' would be comparitively easy to make. Just do what moose originally thought it did, and you have a perfect unprotector.

And I agree with payne, how far is this are these communities going to get if people just keep everything to themselves.

If you've ever played the original fleet command games, those were buggy as hell. Play the update I made (still in progress, so still pretty buggy), and you will see a MAJOR difference. Not in the map, but in the bugs. I didn't change anything about the map, I just debugged it. And got rid of the capability to do an instant rush, and pwn the enemy base, thus crippling the team -- within 5 minutes.

I know a map I've tryed to unprotect with OSMap and it did resist... and even crash the program!
His name : Bounds.scx (the bound where you make your own bounds)
Well... I was frustrated that a map resist to OSMap so I found something else : TriggerViewer!!!! It's a must!

Either way, anyone with a hex editor could easily go through and change the names. But they couldn't edit the map. I think that makes protection kinda backwards.

LW is the king of OS. I don't think that you can get any more open source then he's been.
