Staredit Network -> Miscellaneous -> My grandfather

My grandpa, at the age of 76, has suffered a stroke along with a heart attack. He is in the hospital right now, and I have to go see him saturday.

What worries me the most is he could die with me right by his bed, and I have no clue what to do right now. I probably should realize that none of you care at all about this, but maybe a small piece of advice? I've never been through the death of a family member yet.

Well, I'm your man. I've lost both grandmas, both grandpas, my dad, my older brother and sister, several cousins, a few aunts, great aunts, uncles, great uncles, 2 great grandparents, and 2 friends from middle school. Oh, and 2 dogs, a bird, a goldfish, and a spotted gecko. I think that just about covers it.

Death is never easy to go through. It will feel like a part of you has died along with them. If you feel the need to grieve, then do it. Bottling it up is NOT HEALTHY and it doesn't impress anyone. If you have a chance to do right by your dying loved one, then by all means do it. Its been 10 years, and I still feel bad that I never told my dad goodbye or that I loved him, even though I had a chance to do so. Be thankful for the time you did get to spend with him, and never forget how short life really is.

And remember, he's 76, and has lived a long, full, and good life. There's much to be proud of in that.

Well, I have more bad news. He can't swallow anything because of the stroke, everything else he can do.

That happened to my grandma when she had about a month left. They inserted a feeding tube.

Encourage him to live a few more years, until scientists come up of a feasible way of doubling lifespan smile.gif

That's a bad thing, and sometimes I wish people would realize that.

Death is a natural part of existence and it should not be something to be feared and hated when it comes at the end of a long and bountiful life.

When my grandfather died, I felt like the worst freak in the world. He was a living ecyclopedia. And I was the one that wasted that knoweledge, as I wasn't interested in most things he knew back then. I realized what I did only afterwards. You must not make that mistake. Let him pass the knoweledge, experience and wisdom to you.

ADDITION:
Also, understand that death at the age of 76 is just a part of the cycle, and a natural thing. Of course, it's not easy, but you must understand that it's the way life is. That helped me, anyway.

Try saying that when you're faced with death.

lol, don't worry, I can make jokes about the death toll in my family too. If I didn't have a sense of humor about it, I might've killed myself years ago. Just as long as people don't flame my dead relatives or anything like that, then there won't be any problems. tongue.gif
