Hello, I have played starcraft for a couple years now. I just started making -use map setting games- and thought i could use some hacks. I am mainly into Defense Games but also like to play other melee, rpg and spawn defense type games. biggrin.gif

I like to skateboard on my spare time, im getting descent at it. I play football, soccer, baesball, and other sports. I enjoy pulling pranks on my friends (but then again, who does'nt? tongue.gif ? Im always active when I cant be playing my games. umm....well, thats all I got on that kind of info. Wait, my name is Anthony and im 15---16 in about 2 months!!!

I play Halo 2 Live also. I just started playing about a week from today. (02-07-07) I was grounded the second day I got live for about a month, so I have only got to play about 30-40 games altogether, so im not to high of a level. I am mainly into the team snipers games, playing live has really haelped me. If you play Halo 2 Live add my gamer tag. Here it is-------- Uh Sas N

One more thing about Starcraft Hacks I meant to say something about. What Hack is the hack to make land like straight.....no edges.....do you now what I mean confused.gif ? PLEASE reply to this message. Ty Ty

It's not hacks. Go to Mapping DLDB and on the left is a "Editors Tool" and stuff like that, go download some of them (most people use Starforge and/or SCMDraft and most people have Xtra Editor lurking around somewhere or used to.

BTW, we don't "Hack" here. We make maps. Sometimes a map may have systems so well made that it seems like a "hack". We also make mods. Which again may be so well made they seem like "Hacks". (OMG HAX, Agamemnon). And about the terrain that has straight edges, that's called "square terrain" As opposed to "isometrical terrain" which is the cliffs, etc. you see in staredit. Then there's also "extended terrain" Which uses tiles to make really neat effects (wide ramps, long bridges etc.).

Either way, I hope you have fun on SEN, make some really killer maps, and survive the flying "kiwi offering fakers".

Modding is probably less hack like then SCMDraft and Starforge, they exploit the game -- Modding just modifys its files.

All map editors not made or licensed by Blizzard is considered a hack and you can get banned from it

It didn't offend me, but it's just not the right word for what goes on here.

What are you talking about? SCMDraft and Starforge just change the map files. They can still be played on B.net fine. Modding is pretty close to hacking, you change the actual files of SC to make marines fly, or dance, or act drunk. Or anything else for that matter. When one refers to "hacks" I tend to think of it as things like: Giving yourself vision of the entire map in melee. Stuff that Modifies the game to give you an unfair advantage, and nothing else.

ADDITION:
And about the OSMap debates, try to keep yourself out of them. They infest this site. They are a pain in the censored.gif . Just leave them, they will not affect you.

They do a lot more then just that.

If they didn't want it to be editable, they wouldn't of made graphics and unit properties so easily to access.

Easy to access? They're only so easy to access for 2 reasons

1. Blizzard is amazingly organized. They neatly organized all of their files into neat folders, and compressed them, folders, files, all intact. They then figured nobody would access them, and just like starcraft maps, deleted all the unused "Strings" or listfiles. I'd say WinMPQ is essentially OSMap, in the fact that it opens up what the creator didn't intend to be "open upable".

2. We made listfiles, so that you don't have to go through hundreds of unknowns to get to your file. Imagine if a someone went through the effort to make a string table for that map you protected.

3. We've been making programs to get at them. I don't know the .GRP format, but I'm sure it's relatively simple. Just like the way a map editor edits a map, we edit the files of the SC MPQ, using plenty of programs. But instead of placing them back in, we release it. Just like (not so much on SEN, but moreso on Maplantis) when we edit a map, we put the new version on a webpage. Which people then download, and play.

Blizzard has actually been HIGHLY cooperative throughout this whole unprotection thing, why? Because it improves the game's popularity. If only mappers behaved this way.

And I have to ask, how many modders actually put blizzard in the credits? How many modders start a mod completely from scratch. As in, no extraction, or even use of the main MPQ and .exe. It's just one big map, people can edit it all they want, but they just can't start a new one. Actually, they could, it just wouldn't be called starcraft.

We should get back on topic.

Did we even say welcome?

Welcome.
