I was thinking that a bunch of old maps that were popular, and are still played today should be remade. Don't you hate it when you enter a game and it is so crappy, but you remember playing it before and thinking it was great? I think that if some old maps were remade to a new better quality it would be very beneficial to Battle.net and our stalemated map making community.

Hate to break it to you, but people are remaking maps all the time on bnet... with and without permission (mostly without). Of course, a "classics" map pack or something wouldn't be a bad idea, if done properly.

That would br pretty cool. It would be great to have a new Commando Wars map out there.

Better yet, make one map. Allow the players to choose one of like five classic game types, and have them all on one map. Or have a tournament or something. I dunno.

well tux i think that you take me for an idiot, obviously people rm maps on bnet, thats how many people get started in SE, but what i was talking about was some professional maps that look good, jave no bugs, take the game to the next level... etc

Yes, this is a good idea, and something that I like to think of trying doing all the time, in fact.
In fact, I'm planning on making a game that is like a remake of Archon Tag, except it's also a blend of the evolution of such, Cats n Mice.

If i were to remake (and make my version better) a persons map, i'd
get their permission first... cause they most likely spent alot of time into
making a map that they probably did their best to make, and someone
such as you goes and makes the same map but better and advanced,

Remaking, not editing maps.
They have no right to complain if you used their idea to make your own map, as long as you don't claim to have made the actual idea. And, depending on the person, it might be a good idea to add actual credits.
But with games like catnmice practicaly no1 knows who started it all, so... *shrugs*

I am going to have to agree with EzDay on this one, you shouldn't have to ask to remake a map. If i was a map maker and someone remade my map I would be happy that someone enjoyed my map enough to make a copy that worked better then mine, but that of course is me and not everyone.

Editing on the other hand is a completely different story, one should put the effort forth to ask the original creator.

Ez is right, remaking is different from editing. The topic person means making the same gameplay from scratch NOT from opening and changing a map... These are different things.

You don't need to ask permission although you would be considerate if you did. Starcraft Maps has been, and always will be FREE. Genres are created to be improved, not copyrighted and kept secret.

I have created Cat's & Mice maps in the past that stretch gameplay to new boundaries... but people prefer simple, predictable maps.

There ARE newer archon tags out there if you look. Things like archon tag 2 and such. But I like the idea of many maps in one with the voting thing. Its gold.

well ezday, it doesnt really matter in the end, but if through some miracle we both come close to completion, we should share ideas and view each others maps should we get to that point

Personaly i dont want an archon tag i want a real tag. Were ppl vs ppl no buildingthings jsut obsicals tress shtuff and u get tagewd ur it something like that eliminate the archon. Dunno how ud win when a person is it for so long they loose everyone else wins?? dunno i just thinks its a good idea

i think that would be a cool idea because so many maps are done and no one play em anymore like sorcery rpg its one of the best rpgs ever or disease defense the best defense ever so i think it is a good idea to remake.

And as for getting the creator permission it would be a good idea but most of them don't play Sc anymore. Even if they do i wouldn't mind someone remaking my map so it got played more often would you?

Hey if anyone wants to remake good old maps , you guys should really try to not only remake Civilization ages of earth but upgrade it with more ages and stuff , ive been waiting years for that

I would like to see a new version of cipher bound. I really liked thouse but no one playes them anymore.

I would love to see a new Bunker Command also maybe some cats vs mice with like isom terrain with everything really skinny (2 wide) and in some places it would get really skinny (1 wide) and it would be like Cats Vs Mice Tunnels.
