This is the original post at blizzforums, we had a little riot there so I think we could start our own conversation here. Have starcraft actually breached it's limits? What percentage?

Vote, and if you vote yes - justify. If you voted no - justiy more and hopefully you could tell us your new idea (if you have one and that's why you voted no).

We haven't run out of ideas. There's plenty of ideas. Pubs probably won't understand the maps that use them and bother, but there's still a flow of ideas.

There are still plenty of things to do.
The big thing would be changing unit sprites, like a marins that looks like a zealot but acts like a marine.

It's impossible to run out of ideas, we may have reached our limits in discovering new map making potential but the ideas will never run out.

There are many things to do.. but what do you mean we have run out of ideas?

We COULD make an editor that does a lot more.. but does that count as running out of ideas?

We could make a perfect unit circle (bolt said starforge was supposed to be able to do this)

We could have trigger editing have BOTH modes.

Deathknight could make a patch that adds more things to starcraft.

I dont know if this is possible, but you know in paint when you choose a color, that big color pallette? You could make one of those for player colors?

The limit of discoveries, where we know everything that can be used in a map and every application of such without requiring mods and such.

There's a BIG difference between running out of new techniques and running out of ways to apply them. The latter being impossible since ideas have more applications than one can dream of.

How can you even say that SC is going to die because there are no new things to discover? Does this guy not make maps or something? He ought to know that there are innumerable ways to apply a single idea. Just look at death counters and hypertriggers... there are so many ways to use them!

Many new accions may be discovered.
Using many triggers for 1 accion has almost infinite posibilities, you can do almost anything with the right triggers.

And besides, there'll always be numerous glitches, hundreds of them.
And wiht every patch wll come new applications etc for things

Starcraft still has major things to be able to do some ideas are things like making buildings not like CCs and junk but making terrain buildings. Another is making units that merge such as a High Templar and a Dark Templar be able to become 1 by coming really close to eachother and use some different unit for them.

Well it would be for non mass maps and you maybe have a beacon to bring them to and make another unit spawn, some sorta unit that has similar properties to both of them.

I don't think so. The marine like zealot thing would be just changing the sprites of the units and not the actuall unit.

the good thing about a community like this is the steady flow of ideas and criticism, when a new hting is developed people hear about it and utilize it (stack, 'invis' bunkers etc) we havent run out, we are just proceeding very quickly and we will soon be able to bend the rules of sc even farther... there is always something more to discover.

Id love to have a map weekend. Some ppl get together and start brainstorming coming up with wonderful concepts and great new uses for different triggers. But.. I live in Sweden..

There are limit for what can be done to a map. There are still probably lots of tricks that have not been made yet but eventually they will all be discovered.
After you can do everything that there is to do, and you still want to do more, you can try modding the game and making lots of different stuff. There are limit on modding too, but your probably changing it into a completely different game by the time you hit them. After that...you go into game developing for a living because your hooked smile.gif

We may be steadly reaching the limit of what SC can do but considering very few people take advantage of all the stuff possable we are no where close to running out of things to do with this knowleage.

Even without all this crazy new stuff there are pleanty of things that can be done, it just reaquires a creative mind and an good enouth mapmaker to put it together.

(i remember people talking about this like a year ago lol)

There is really an unlimited amount of things that can be done, but it all has to fit inside the game's limitations.
Starcraft is 6 years old right? i wonder how long people will be playing the game...

Any game that the players can customize usually does very well. Like Half-Life, there are thousands of mods for half-life..
And With starcraft you can use triggers to make pretty much anything you want, or make it completely different from the normal game. It keeps people coming back for more.

I accidently voted for Yes.

As for what I think on the issue... Well, StarCraft is like colors.

There are three primary colors, but through combinations we can create different ones. The amount of possible permutations is so huge that it would take a helluvalotta lifetimes to find them all.

Same thing with StarCraft wink.gif

Bolt is right, there are things that we know how to do, but we just havent used them. the limitations are built into the game, and what WE do with it too.
