There are some ads from vets in viet from the "Swiftboat Regiment" that are saying Kerry is a coward and a lier. The republican party denies affiliation. What do you think?

The election is getting retarded. All they do is talk about what these guys did 15-20 years ago... what does that matter now? They just flame each other instead of actually talking about the issues that the people care about. Personally, I don't want either of them winning the election and running the country.

Third-party group making them, it might not be Bush administration, or could be.

It doesn't matter who made or funded that ads. What's important is that people realize that they're lies. Bush certainly has no problem with allowing people to believe lies.

Of course the Republicans would deny affiliation with those vets. They don't want the rest of America getting wise to the fact that they are being paid by them to spread slander about a true American hero. Besides, many of those vets are old coots. Their memories are failing; thusly, they wouldn't know what they were talking about.

With that, I give you guys three conclusions:

1. The Republicans are paying the veterans to lie about John Kerry.
2. The veterans are senile old coots.
3. A combination of the above. Bush and the Republicans are taking advantage of the veterans' age, failing memories, and inherent greed in order to further their campaign of slander against Kerry.

Finally, I have this to say. How do any of you really know if any of those "veterans" really served in Vietnam? For all we know, they might as well have been draft dodgers.

this is why I hate elections...because near the end, people go all cut throat on you...

It is possible that the veterans are so opposed to Kerry because they are more conservative.

I don't think being more conservative or liberal has anything to do with this.

If there's reports of John Kerry saving people/getting all three of his purple hearts, it's true. It's not made up. The government isn't as corrupt as you think.

I was watching CSPAN the other day and watched a debate between Kerry and some other Vietnam vet right after Kerry returned from the war. Turns out the guy he debated (and just brutally crushed afterwards) is the guy putting together the Swiftboat ads. Could this be a grudge spanning over multiple decades?

All-in-all, I feel the guy putting these ads together was an idiot when he was 27 - arguing against a 25 year-old Kerry and still losing - and he just wants to ruin John Kerry like he tried to do against John McCain and Max Cleveland some years ago. The people speaking in the ads fought in the same military as Kerry and in the same war, but other than that they had no real affiliation with him. What's done is done, and Kerry (despite all this controversy) still has his purple hearts - proving he was under enemy fire - and his bronze star.

And I must say that every time I've seen him speak, he constantly tries to stray away from events occuring decades ago and talk about relevant topics pertaining to the future of the United States. On the other hand, Bush (whether he is really affiliated with the ads or not) can only claim he was the great leader after the 9/11 attacks and smear Kerry. Other than that, he hasn't done anything to help the bulk of America, instead he gave a tax cut to the wealthiest 1% of the population. Kerry can talk about the relevant topics, Bush can only say he is better.

On another note, the new electronic voting system is a total failure. There is no doubt that the maker of this system (who openly supports Bush i might add) can shave off a few Democratic votes here and there to make this an easy win for Bush. No one except people affiliated with the company can see the source code and even then it is possible to hack into it. Computers can not be 100% foolproof in this case and in past occurences there have already been many flaws found.

My point is basically that despite all the negative views toward Bush - supposing we do resort to electronic voting - he could win easilly. With no receipts or any paper-trail left by the system, the creators could get away with not counting certain votes and could not be charged with anything due to lack of any proof. Supposing Bush wins, the next 4 years will be terrible, but thanks to the 12th Amendment, we wont have to deal with him any longer after that.
