It sort of sucks that most of the topics in this section are guided towards america, so I am attempting to make a convesation for the international community. Do you think that Tibet should be free?

ps: I don't know what i think yet, that's why I haven't said.

No, seriously, it's horrible what China has done, but they're not going to just give away that piece of land. The problem really isn't that they took the land so much as they destroyed the culture.

I think they should eb free but they are probally better off (money-wise) with China

Why do you think China has already stated that if Taiwan declares independence they are going full postal on them. Its all about the land.

China wants taiwanese people back and their's because taiwanese people are really from china. They run away from Mao Zi Dong, born from a poor family, he had dreams of making one "China", by killing rich people and only poor people in China.

You may not know, but China wants Tibet for the land, like annexing, taking over by force. Just like taiwan, for the land and the people.

Question, since not a lot of background info was provided by the topic creator: did Tibet break away from China at some point, or is Tibet currently under Chinese rule but are in some sort of resistance stage?

In 1950, the Chinese invaded Tibet, which was an autonomous nation at the time. A year later, Tibet became a self-governing region of China; however, the ruler of Tibet, the Dalai Lama, had no real political power. In 1959, a revolt broke out between the Tibetans and the Chinese; it was quickly supressed, and the Dalai Lama fled to India afterwards. In 1965, Tibet was officially made a part of China. Several revolts against the Chinese have broken out since. So yes, Tibet is currently under Chinese rule but is in some sort of resistance stage.

Thats good background info. Taiwan isn't apart of China, but China is claiming it is. Poor China wanting everything. They had so much power with silk, everyone thought China was so powerful. The Japanese proved the world wrong when they invaded China. I forgot the dates, silk trade was back in late 1800, Japanese was alsost that time ?

that's what I was thinking...with all the trouble tibet is giving china (or my understanding of it) than why are they alive still? China is over populated as it is, and if they were really only after the land, wouldn't all the Tibetans be killed?

That could never happen in todays world. Maybe even 20 years ago but nowdays most countries arent going to sit by and let china exterminate the entire population of Tibet. Its called genocide. They would start WW 3 by doing that.

Nations don't annex countrys anymore, they will know result if they did so.

African dictatorships do similar things frequently due to tribalism. Just so you all know.

Of course Tibet should be free. If we had to give up our Empire then why shouldn't China hand back sovereignity to Tibet, a country taken by force?

Well, the Chinese should, but they can't take the risk it would involve.
If China were to give back sovereignity to Tibet, it would be taken as a sign of weakness by other countries, and maybe even rebellious zones of China who could take the freedom of Tibet as a chance to revolt against a 'soft' leadership in order to gain their own independence.

In short, the Chinese government can't afford to give freedom to Tibet.

Edit: Also once I was watching an episode of the simpsons (you may have seen it), it was the 300 episode I think, Lisa won the spelling bee in her school and when she got the mic she started yelling FREE TIBET! .
