I'm a Puertorican and I would like to know what you want Puerto Rico to be.
I think it should be either the 51st state or an independent country. No more of this ambiguity. I also think that Puerto Rico should vote on which choice to make.
Wasn't there a thing where Russia put nukes in Cuba and demanded that Cuba and the islands down there to be independent? Did this include Puerto Rico?
Nope, that was just Cuba and the US.
I'm going for stay the way it is, cause if it breaks off it will piss too many people off
I don't really care either way, just like the majority of US citizens.
I'm an American citizen, and I do care. To me, it's either statehood or independence.
But are you old enough to vote?prolly not so ur opinion only counts on this forum ^_^.Also for the pole you should of put another option.NUKE IT!!!! lol
Dont know much about this issue, but Id probably go for its own independence, probably complete, with little ties to the US.
What's Puerto Rico? Is that in Mexico or something?
That's the typical American sentiment.
By last colony, do you mean last US colony or generally?
I had to cast a null in this, but as the USA has always said it promotes freedom, shouldn't they give Puerto Rico independence if it is capable of surviving on its own?
But then the puerto ricans that are here should go back to right?Since they dont pay tax or do they? i dont know
I'd go with the independant thing. It's the biggest word up there so its probably the best XD
But yeah, I'd think they should be independant, but kinda with ties to us, like as in allies, not enemies.
Aight heres a little more info on the subject.
We voted twice on this issue before. The current system won like 48% statehood was like 45% and rest was for independence.
We don't decide if we want to be state or not, the congress decides that, we puerto ricans don't have a saying in this issue.
We aren't capable by ourselves, our island is so small it can't produce sufficient resources for 4 million people. I heard it's one of the most densely populated places on earth.
100x35 miles and 4 million people live in that small space.
It's about 1143 people per square mile.
Well, it depends on whether your economy could cope if you independent.
Britain still has colonies, some of which are only colonies now because they are dependencies.
In other words, they need British funding to exist. Examples are Pitcairn Island (Population: 57!) and St. Helena. Other British colonies are probably able to exist on their own (Gibraltar, The Falklands, Bermuda), but they have never expressed a desire for independence.
So, what it boils down to is this: If Puerto Rico can exist comfortably on its own without American support, and it wants to be independent - then they should be allowed to become independent.
I think it should be either the 51 state or independant, not really any point in it being part US is there?
I really don't know.
Puerto Rico has never been an actual part of a counrty or independen.
We were a lose confederation of indian tribes before 1493
1493 - We become a colony of Spain
1898 - We become a colony of USA
1918 - We become US citizens
1946? - We get our first puertorican governor
1952 - the current system of goverment is formed. It's kinda like a territorial commonwealth
We have been bossed around most of the time. We really don't know much which one to choose.
I chose independent and same I think they should make their own army instead of leeching off of us.

.
We aren't capable of making a NAVY.
We don't have the factory capacity and resources.
We import almost everything
We can't live independently for long without having massive external debts
nothing is better than a independent country
I say the 51st state. We have Hawaii and Alaska right? There's no difference in this matter...
I live in Florida and I have a lot of Puerto Rican friends. They are really nice people, and I would love having them as another state.
Also, the girls are fine as hell.

It should be the 51st state, mostly because it can't live independently.
