I think the death penalty should not be banned. The person gets what he/she deserved. It is true that the death penalty is used too much. 80% of the people who are given the death penalty are proven innocent. There should be rules and laws limiting when the death penalty can be used. If a person gets life without paroll and there is no death penalty, they will kill without careing because they already have the maximum punushment. The worse that they will be able to do to the criminal is solitary confinement. To all of you who believe in reincarnation and that the death penalty will scar the person for several past lives: What about the person/ people who were killed by the killer. They were surely scarred much more from a brutal death than the killer, who dies a nearly painless death. The killer gets 2-3 injections and dies. It is neither brutal nor painful. Now, what are your opinions?

My country doesing have death penalties. I think you should put them in jail first once they are foud guilty. Then get some more evidence for the person to be put to death. Cause you need to be very sure cause once they are dead their dead.

But, I couldn't care less (yes, that is the correct expression) as my country all but abolished the death penalty back when you were beginning to watch people fry in electric chairs. Now the punishment just doesn't exist here.

We havent had death penalty in sweden for a very long time and I think that is good. First off death is the end and what if hes found to be innocent after? It would kind of suck to kill someone for a murder he didnt do. Also I belive that true lifetime sentence is way harder then death. Here in sweden Lifetime is kind of the same as 10 years and I think that is wrong.

On another hand it would be an effective way to get rid of smaller crimes like shoplifting to implement deathpenalties on the spot for all crimes.. I also dont think anyone would drive to fast either

The death penalty should be legalized. If someone commits a horrible crime, then they shouldn't be sent to prison for life, they should pay for it. Not killing a criminal is always the best answer, but jails and prisons these days are over-crowded as is, and we don't want to be filling them up any further.

Killing off people just because its becoming overcrowded doesnt sound morally correct. What this means is that they have to overhaul and fix the prison system (maybe put lots more of them to work, ship em to the south pole, etc), or go straight to the source of the problem; society could use a little fine-tuning.

over crowded my have u ever watched the news? everyday there are ppl who kidnap 10 year old children and kill them, if u had a kid and someone killed them dont u wanna make them pay, some psychos come out any random day and shoot people for no reason then throw them in the woods, Laci Peterson was killed by her husban cause he was cheating, COULDNT HE GET A FRIGGIN DIVORCE?! NO HE HAD TO KILL HER! those psychos dont deserve to be locked up they deserve to die

I think the death penalty shouldnt be banned. If someone kills someone, they didnt just hurt the person they killed, they hurt their whole family and all their friends. I think they in a way should be killed..

That would be a very good solution in some countries, specially the small and the developing ones, because they don't have space to hold that many people or the country don't have enough money to give them a fair-decent life.

Heh, if I was a convict I'd make a terrible crime. I'd much rather be sentenced to death than spend the rest of my life in prsion...

Well, if we keep killing off these 'psychos', is that gonna solve the problem? HELL NO! We're always going to have maniacs on the loose, and we're just as bad as them if we're to kill them all off as well, and we're going to justify that because we MADE the laws as they are! How about solving the real problem instead of just using a temporary solution??

I myself actually hate the death penalty, I think all life should be preserved. I'm weird like that, but, I think it should be kept, people get what they deserve. Also, I live in Texas, which means

I think that the whole system with prisons is wrong. If you do a crime you should get rehabilitation to make sure you dont do it again, I mean if you go off and kill alot of people there are some real problems in your head that needs to be fixed. Also lesser crimes like stealing wouldnt bee needed if our society could work a little mroe togheter to help those who needs it. Thus fixing everyones life noone would need to steal.

To be honest, I'm astounded at the bloodthirsty nature of most of you. I saw Bowling for Columbine and its claims that Americans are naturally violent and aggressive, but I didn't really believe them until now.

You have lots of open space in your 'desert' states, you could build many many prisons out there to keep in the convicts. Life imprisonment is sometimes a better deterrent than death itself.

Who wants to live a miserable existence in a prison, being asked to pick up the soap by some fat guy, day after day?

Eye for an eye is a wonderful way to do it I think if someone kills someone by drowning them then they deserve to be drowned, if they stab someone to death then they deserve to be stabbed to death.

I do not believe in the death penalty. Way to many people are put to death, only to later be found innocent. Having a waiting period of like half a year wouldn't work either because it still leaves room for error. Life in prison is worse than the death penalty for most people and unlike death if the person is found to be innocent the can be released. , some times i just want to die and i haven’t even done anything wrong...

The death penalty is a joke. You get a lethal injection. Oh, how horrible that must be for the criminal. They even wipe their arm so they don't get infected. What a horrible death! -_-

Lethal injection may be a 'soft' way of killing a criminal - but nobody deserves to be strapped to a chair and fried to death or swing by their neck from a rope. In fact - nobody deserves to die at all.

Like I said before, life imprisonment is usually a better deterrent than death.
Some people go on killing sprees because they are frustrated with life and secretly want to die. 'If the cops don't get me then the chair will.'
Making them pay with their life might even be giving them what they want, you see?

Instead, cart them off to prison for life. The overcrowding problems would be another deterrent...
