I actually read an article on Colombia in National Geographic. Northern Colombia is exactly like what mobomojo described, what with the guerillas and the cocaine and all. I don't know how it's like in the other parts of Colombia, however.

I always read about rebels kidnapping tourists and taking over towns because of poor law enforcement or something.

I watched a video shot in Bogota in a geography lesson. It was about how poor the city was. Power is held by a few whilst the rest of the people live in slums - that kind of thing.

It mentioned that there was something like 10+ murders per day in Bogota, usually drug-related, and there was a sequence where the car with the video camera in drove through a street full of crackheads and they began pelting it with stones.

Same things I heard.... Great place for drugs. Not quite something I'd be proud of, if I'd be to live over there...

Every places have their own problems...

One of the biggest rebels-drug dealers have just surrended a few days ago. The other ones are just being stupid because they know they will die... why? because Colombia has the biggest army on Central and South America. There are some deaths a day, but MOST of them are outside the cities. People hear bad things about Columbia all the time because the news only show those bad things, and they EXAGERATE them... you should see how they do that, is funny sometimes.
The news programs only care about the money, they don't care about any place!!

0.63 per 1000 people in Colombia? Damn. America's just 0.04 per 1000 people. And I didn't know Jamaica was that violent; it's #3 on the list.

Where is Puerto Rico?
we have only 3 million people in island and at least 10 people are murdered(not killed) each day.

Colombia is like lots of good coffee(Not as good as Puerto Rican coffee) and lots of Coca plantations.
