I must say, I read the article on Yahoo earlier today, I was like, "Holy Crap" and really nothing else, I couldn't really think of anything else to say anyways.

Whoa that's terrible, man why cant people just leave other people alone, I mean why would terrorists go on bombings and stuff when they could go on non-violent protests and stuff.

Those terrorists aren't fighting for independence. They're just looking for an excuse to kill people.

Args.. those should get some punishment and I even consider that I would like them to die even tough I'm against deathpenalties.. but since they already got killed that dosnt matter now...

The worst thing is that russia probably will retaliate against the Chechnian people now... And that will piss of more of them so they do more terrorist acts and it will probably never end :/

Terrorist's will never stop. It will continue for a long time, Its been happening since sep 11th that was ages back, And its still happening. No matter what people do they will to continue to do terrorist acks and all sorts.

Sad indeed... Though I must admit I would do the same thing, being a terrorist. I mean... I'd never be able to look myself in a glass ever again, but... I dunno... If I was like 'em, I just wouldn't give a darn @#&? about random, unknown people in a school...

I bet the Russian gov. is just hidding they were trying to force the school in, then it was just easy to say "The terrorists started shooting and setting up bombs everywhere"...

Actually Terrorism has been going on for a long time, back in like 1900 when someone exploded a horse carraige at Wall Street. It killed like 75-ish people.

Yeah, terrorism has been around for far longer than 3 years.

In the 1800s they were called Anarchists and they either threw bombs or used the classic 'Infernal Machine.'

In the early 1900s, Both the Boers and the British used terrorist tactics in Africa when they went to war. (Pretty nasty war, actually - concentration camps etc.)

In WW2, the French Resistance and so on were classified as terrorists.

In the 1970s there were numerous terrorist actions against European powers in Africa. Most of this terrorism resulted in the liberation of African states from colonial administration.

There is still terrorism in African states, such as Mozambique, today.

Terrorism was rife in Northern Ireland and Britain in the 1980s and 1990s. The IRA was usually to blame.

And now of course we have Al Qaeda (everyone spells that differently).

I've been following the articles on the hostage taking. It's very sad all those innocent ppl. The hostage takers have no feelings they are NOT human beings. They laughed when children fainted. I was reading Toronto Start today and they showed a picture of a dead baby with blood all over her face and a mother over her crying. Very sad indedeed

The hostage crisis lasted 5 days, in toll about 323 people were killed. At least 153 of them children under the age of 12. They were forced to only wear their undergarments, they were not fed and some children had to drink their own urine for body fluid, there was an explosion and little children went running down the hall, then they were massacred. A lot were shot in the back of the head around the scalpal area, the hospital system did not have any ambulanes till the last day, that is not smart. Special Forces were forced to go in and take care of it, resulting in more hostage deaths, and militant deaths.

This was truely a massacre, the terroists are cetchen (spelling?) militants wanting revenge for something, Russia is hunting down the whole cetchen area.

I know, it was terrible. It was terrorism for fun. No reasonable demands were made - they were just there to kill. Kill children at that.

Still, although I'm against the death penalty, the militants ended up facing it anyway when special forces stormed the building and shot them - which is what they deserved I guess. And you haven't had a death penalty in Columbia since 1910, DJ Dan.

We keep on using these dumbass "big-army" tactics against terrorists, which is why, well, we're wasting a lot of time and resources in the whole thing. I don't know if you'll consider this "geek" or whatever, but I think a Rainbow 6 type of operation would be most useful. Able to respond in what... 6 hours to any terrorist threat? And those terrorists in Russia seemed, well, strangely untrained. I mean, they only blew up the gymnasium, and as terrible as that is, I would've thought the whole school would have been rigged. Even with 35 militants, they were unable to secure the entire facility and many people escaped (I'm remembering stuff from my own newspaper). I mean, escaped before the Commando operation. I have a question, could an EMP machine not be useful? I mean, if there are bombs, BAM! EMP the building like a second after you bust in and within half a minute (hopefully 15 seconds) the terrorists are mainly neutralized. I'd give people on the roof 10-20 seconds before entering. 20 seconds would be pushing it, so I'd probably use something 13-17 seconds. These operations generally go very quickly, it's just a matter of timing them in a manner conducive to saving hostage lives. Still, what kind of sick mother :censored:er do you have to be to shoot children in the back of the head? God, these people aren't even Muslim, so you can stop being racist (although some were Muslim, mind you). Stop focusing on the Arabs, Mr. Bush, and start focusing on the terrorists. If he's against terrorism why doesn't he help Russia and stuff in Chechnya? There are terrorists everywhere, not just in the Middle East. Our president is a big dumbass. And now he's leading in the poles by like 15%, Americans are stupid too. I want to move to Canada. Next thing I know, he'll be drafting people to replenish HIS armies. Hell, this is worse than Vietnam. We have exactly no reason to go to war in Iraq. Seen Air Force One? Do something like that, I doubt Saddam has crack troops like America. Instead of doing all-out brute strength, why not just use operations to capture the leaders?

Well, the Americans and Russians have pretty clumsy special forces and neither of you are experienced yet in dealing with terrorism, to be honest.

If you want a good description of how to deal with a terrorist hostage situation, then I strongly recommend you read 'Wild Justice' by Wilbur Smith (Known as 'The Delta Decision' in the US). It's a great novel that is 90% relevant today despite being written in the 70s.

My view on how the situation in the school should have been resolved would be to use flares to blind occupants of the building, then send Factor V gas through the ventilation system for, say, 20 seconds. This gas dulls reactions and slurs speech after 10 seconds of inhalation - 20 seconds and you're unconscious. Then the special forces could be sent in.

Only a small margin for error there though.

Actually no. The Russian special forces (Spetsnaz) is the one of the most thorough teams in the world, probably second to the SAS of course (aquiescing to Will lol). They are also trained for nuclear disasters.

They werent forced to wear undergarments it was jsut so hot that many of then took off their cloths. It lasted 3 day i think not 5. Now everyone is gonna....at me...

I think that YOU should be killed, not the Chechnyans or the Arabs. iamacow is right; you can't just hold an entire race or ethnicity responsible for the actions of a few bad people.
