Staredit Network -> Serious Discussion -> Dating Minors

There is a law in America that states people over the age of 21 cannot date minors, or people under the age of 18.

With that in mind, my twin sister (16) has a beau who is 22. She says that nothing is going on between them, and that they are just friends, but I don't believe her. When she's on the phone with him, she flirts nonestop, and I overheard her saying that she is going to invite him to homecoming this year. At first I thought nothing about it, until she brought him home...

...Okay, maybe I'm overly paranoid or protective, but he was WAY too physical when they weren't around my parents. He brought her flowers. I mean, it was like they had been dating for months...But the worst part is that he acts like he only wants sex from her.

It really shouldn't be my problem, but I wish he'd go to hell and never come back.

With that said, I think the dating minors law is a good thing, what do you think?

Depends of intentions... Some guys only search for sexual relatioships, thus, hit "easier" targets (whom are single, young girls, affected by other male's stupidity and searching for "maturity").

I'd be pretty much agreeing the law... Though 22 to 16 is quite a gap... The law's fine though. I'd have to experience it myself to see if it could be ethicaly wrong :/

I'd have to agree with the law on this one.

I guess I agree with the law.. Its kinda wrong for a 36 gajillion year old to date a 16 year old.. er.. whatever.. 21 year old..

Are you sure its a law, and not just frowned upon? Lets say you have a 21 year old and a 17 year old, where both have been dating since high school when they were 17 and 14, respectively. Yeah, senior and freshman; it happens. And yeah, this is pretty borderline.

But it does make sense if it were a 30something year old dating a 14 year old.

I agree with the law. As a 20-year-old I know perfectly well that any typical girl age 18 or lower holds little intellectual interest for me. The guy's a loser who can't get a girl his own age. I've had friends who dated guys who were way older back in high school (one was 17 and the guy was 25, yuck), and all it was about was sex. Send him packing however you can. Clue in your parents, first of all.

In Michigan there is a law that a 18+ year old can't date a 16 or less years

Just wait about 10 years to age. By then, a 5 year difference in a relationship will not only be lawful, but will be socially acceptable. I know some married couples that are 5-10 years apart.

That kinda is normal, MM... Except if you're talking about a married 20 years old guy... If not, my Grand-father is (more or less) 10 years older than my G-mother... Which ain't considered bad (I think he started dating her when she was 17 or something, which he was about 28 at that time...

Why would it be today?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mini Moose 2707 on 2004-09-10 at 13:41:08
Because of the relative age of our posters. If a 23 year old was dating a 13 year old, that would be frowned upon... and most likely illegal.

Thats just kinda wrong, 6 year gap is kinda obsessive. Unlesss your like over 35

The thought of me dating a 14 year old is discusting.

But thats like, a two year difference. How the hell can they have a law like that?

Thats where they draw the line, I mean.. as soon as the 16 year old turns 17 they are considered an adult sort of, in michigan...

I mean.. its 18+, so anyone over 18

If it was 19+ some people would say, whats wrong with 3 years apart?

Anyway, ontopic, right--if you really think hes just a total creep, and your sure it wont like make your hate you for it, then i think you should have a talk with your parents.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Kame on 2004-09-10 at 17:43:37
I do talk to my parents, they yell at me for interfering. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't being totally irrational about the whole ordeal

Age should really mater, i think its more of a maturity level, but most 13 year olds dont have the skills to make such a relationship work.

I also disagree with the ages
1 day ur a minor and cant do much
The next day your an adult and can drink, smoke, buy a gun, smoke etc

Doesnt really make sense

I totally agree with High.
Then againg I also think that the gap should be quite big when youre teenagers/young adults.

Maturity does have some relation with age.
Maturity is dependant on age, meaning the older you are the more mature you can be proportionally.
Age is not dependant on Maturity, meaning you keep getting older but you stay at the same level.

I'm almost 16(1.5 weeks) and I'm in 11th grade. I can go out 12th and 10th grade girls and it really dosen't matter. 9th grade, I saw I won't go down so low.
I pretty much try to stay at my level.

i think the younger u are the bigger the gap is, like 5 years apart as a teenager is wrong but if ur like 30 then its really nothing. I think its because both ppl are old enough to have experienced things and are well into their adult life and when your young there are many more differences between ages
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Staredit.Net Essence on 2004-09-10 at 20:26:23
Yea but still... The element of "love" might come in... I agree some young girls just can't take serious decisions against love, but some of them really do support these kind of relationships... I don't really have words to express it... Call it magic, I guess.

Many of my friends censored.gif people that are 13 -15 years old, and thats concidering most of my friends are 17-20 years old. It's a matter of choice, and since I hate stupid topics I replyed. I know alot of people who have sex before 18. Actually before 16, and I know that most of you are 12-15 or something like that.
