Staredit Network -> Ideas -> Card game style game
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Cokymonster on 2004-09-15 at 07:12:24
i was thinking of making a map sorta built on the card style gaming system ( but yet again i have no free time to make it )

The battle map area consists of 20 2x2 squre tile map which will be 4x5
and other tiles for other options
Like this:
e=Effectcard [ ] = unit space

[e][You]
[] [] [] [] []
[] [] [] [] []
[] [] [] [] []
[] [] [] [] []
[cpu][e]
well the idea is straight foward. You have multiple cards in a deck varying from 45-60 card deck.
There will be Unit cards and Effect cards.
A unit card can is a basic unit used to attack the opponent's life. Units will varry from special abilities they can use.
A Unit with B= basic unit with simple stats
I= Uses a special ability once it is set into play
C= Constant abilities which stays until death of unit
U= The unit becomes disable during the turn but does a special move.
Each unit that comes into play will give the player a certain amount of Mana points. These are used to play effect cards or united attacks.
Effect cards are used up once they are played (1 per turn). This can be instant damage to the opponents life, kill your unit to kill 1 opponents unit, or whatever.
A defending unit stays in the back row and cannot attack. The very first unit you will place has to be in this row.
The middle row are used for attacking units. The attacking unit must attack anything infront of it before it attacks the person's life point.
After you defeat a person, you get a random card and/or money
You play tournaments to gain cash. You then use the cash to purchase Boosters, which give you 5 random cards.
Each card has a value to it and determines if it has a special skill or not.
S cards are very rare, and have very good abilites
A cards are rare and have good abilites
B cards have some good abilities
C cards may have abilities
D cards will rarely have decent abilities

Turn method:
Draw card---->any abilities----> Placement of unit ---->Use of effect cards---->Attack---->use of effect card if none was used before---->any abilities----> end turn.
Using the dropship method to choose what turn you want to use.

Unit stats will be difficult but possible to do. It will have to be virtual HP.
So a marine that does 10 damage with 50 hp attacking a zealot that does 20 damage and has 200 hp, the end result will be a 10 damage marine with 30 hp left and a zealot with 190 hp.
Attacking system (brief) When attacking an opponent, if you have 2 units available and he has only 1, you can use an unitied attack. This means you combine the 2 units in 1 attack using mana. 2 Zealots doing 20 damage each attacking a marine with 30 hp will give you 10 damage left over. This damage will be delt to the player.
A blocking unit will however stop this damage.
This gets into a lot of details. I post more if anybody is interested though. The rules and guidelines tongue.gif

I'd rather he stuck with a know card game instead of inventing his own.

i wasnt inventing this game, it is an actual game hence my topic saying if you ever played card fighter clash
its a game using capcom and snk characters
it is a card game, but its not like mtg, or yugioh or whatever AVP warhammer
there are lots, and WAY too many cards

this cardgame however is only digital, if i had made it up...maybe i would have gotten some cash for the idea though

and btw, im pretty sure most people know a little (which i me) about MTG
Get land, Tap for mana, Use mana to summon/spell, End turn
but there are so many different types of cards since i last played
all i remember was first strike, phase, trample and some other stuff...(1997+)
now there are other stuff like burial or stuff like that which i dont know.(2000+)

I could base it on mtg though...if you guys like that more.
card fighter clash had more fun to it (since i didnt have to waste real cash for a booster to get 7 common cards and say WTF BS!)

I say that you ought to invent a simple card game instead of making an adaptation on one that exists already. Even if you could make a passable system that allows you to play something like MTG in SC, the fact is that you CANNOT include all 1000+ cards in the map. The problem is that you lose a huge part of the gaming experience if you are limited to specific decks. Most card games are way too complex to make a map out of anyway.

I'd love to see a good card game style map, but I think that even your idea is a little too complex. I'd go for something like the card game in FF8 (though the game was kinda dumb as a whole) because that game is VERY basic, yet it is easy to learn and would be fun to play against other people.

well... the game is relatively simple
the game has about 300 cards in it, but i can take out the crappy cards
eg: Chin(d card) from snk has 200 HP/Damage vs Terry (B card) from snk as well which has 1000 HP/Damage

Strong units beat down defence and kill hp
or
Strong Defence: Use abilities to lock player and destroy deck
Use Effect Cards to do instant damage to player

ff8 card game was boring when i saw it, it was more high card low card O.o or something like that (so long ago!!!)

Ill see if i can start the map sometime...maybe...during this month
and give out a sample map. Shouldnt be too difficult. Im not sure if it an handle more than 1 or 2 players though.

Edit: the REAL card fighter clash only has 3 slots and no defence position.

I added the defence posistion from another card game...i think i was watching yugioh or something or other.
Also the card fighter clash allows you to have an unlimited amount of hand cards, but i would actually limit it to 6 cards (you can draw up to 7 but discard 1 at the end of turn)
And when your deck runs out of cards, you lose
Also, the game limits you to 3 exact cards in a deck so you cant cheese your deck with all S cards.

MTG works better because more people know how to play it.

i really didn't want to go towards MTG, even though it is simple to assimulate into the community, but there are 5 colors (excluding artifacts) which means very little units to spread across the colors. And then there are different types of lands...

mystic: it's 5th time I try to post, but is beeing disconnected in process

MTG: ~10000 cards, even more rules and rulings, and even more hours you'll spend on creating a playable MTG map

First post idea: Good, go complete it, and post a link!

Final Fantasy 8 Card Game (Triple Triad): That involves printing numbers on screen... well, you cannot make a playable map on this.

Final Fantasy 9 Card Game (Tetra Master): Might be a good idea too.

lol printinc numbers on screen... its so ez to do this.. just use beacons.. i like to print numbers, etc. on map.. with beacons (i made a tic tac toe map like that, its 3 x 3 giant square (just like the ff8 game) u dont have to make pictures.. just the numbers its not that long.. just a couple of triggers.. and u got ur numbers and than u need the turn based playing conditions and the win conditions

its to that hard....
