In a game coming out called Shin Megami Tensei III, there's a battle system that I think might be portable to StarCraft. It works like this:

1. You get Press Turns equal to the amount of people in your party.
2. Actions use up Press Turns.
3. Every time you exploit an enemy weakness (Fire vs Ice, etc.), your Press Turn isn't used up, instead it starts flashing (so you can use it again).
4. Every time your enemy defends against your action, you lose two press turns.
5. When you cancel your action, one of your press turns is cnaged into a flashing one but if you already have a flashing one, it is consumed.

I think there are some interesting possibilites for a system like this. You could make a game soley based on strategy instead of walking up the level treadmill. It would also encourage team play, because more people = more turns.
