In the newspaper this morning I saw an article about the war on terror being also known as World War 4. They also said that World War 3 was the anti-communist war from 1963 to 1989.

How did the Cold War involve the "World"? It took place in several countries, and I understand that, but the only major fighting powers were the US and Russia. Two countries fighting over idealogies in 5 or 6 places is hardly a "World" War.

It's kind of odd. I think they should call it the Asian-American War cause that was where all the fighting was.

Sooner or later, our world is going to have a real WWIII. It's most likely going to be over Oil or even Water i heard.

Yeah, oil is getting pretty scarce these days.

Ok let me clear this up, there was no WW3. The Cold War was not "WW3" because it was not technically a war at all. During that time the U.S and the U.S.S.R were on a 'standby' level, basically meaning war would immediately be declared the second an attack was initiated. Not one single American troop ever faught another Soviet troop, therefor no conflict whatsoeever.

Only this new era 'The War on terrorisim' can truly be considered WW3. Because it consists of a large majority of the countries of the world fighting "terrorisim".

I cant believe such an assumption. Oil is NOT scarce these days, oil will not become "scarce" in the true meaning of the word for at the least 70 years.

In the next generation some people will have to fight for water ( except canada with 9% of the water! tongue.gif )

But the world war 3 mostly become the end of humanity with nuclear power and maybe "atomic"... I don't really want an other war... sad.gif

I believe ya, In America the Prices were high at the gas Stations, I think the same thing that WW3 will be started by Oil mostly.

I agree that the cold war shouldn't have been called WW3. However, the war on terrorism should be called a world war because it is involving pretty much the entire world.

Since you dont know, terorisim is not specific to any one country. And Besides Iraq wat are theseother :censored:ries the U.S is actually engaged in battle with ? Terrorisim is being faught by a large majority of countries in the UN, or at the very least they are increasing their security and other such things or readiness.

You guys, oil isn't just used for energy. When it becomes scarce, what are going to use to make plastics?

Neither is true. The so-called "War on Terror" is not a global war, it is a private [america-only] war. And actually its not even a war because you can't have a war against an ideal. Its like a "Battle for Happiness". It just doesn't work...

Also, the "anti-communist war" was called the Cold War, and was also not a global war, because the only countries that were really involved were the Soviet Union, america, and a few allies. It did not envelop Europe as the other World Wars have.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by CaptainWill on 2004-09-24 at 16:40:08
It did envelop Europe, but in a very odd way. Mainly political.
