idoL has generously sponsored Staredit Network a few wonderful prizes for us to host a map contest!

Rules:
> Map can be any size and terrain.
> You can submit multi-map series and campaigns.
> No mods.
> Late maps submitted are not considered (unless of technical difficulties on this website).
> No submitting maps you was working on before this contest.
> No already complete maps.
> No team-effort maps.
> Must be created by the submitter.
> No submitting stolen maps. We know them when we seem them.

What we're judging it on:
> Judging is based on 3 things, trigger complexity and smoothness, style of map/originality, fun factor (is it fun?).
> You can get a total of 10 points on each of these areas.

Prizes:
> 1st place: $250 and an @staredit.net email address.
> 2nd place: Glass chess set (worth 49.99), $50 and an @staredit.net email address.
> 3rd place: Gameboy SP with 1 game Mario Brothers 3 (worth about $90.00), a scrabble set and an @staredit.net email address.
> 4th place: An @staredit.net email address.
> 5th place: An @staredit.net email address.

For the @staredit.net email addresses (my person contribution) you can either get 5 megabytes off of our server for your email (compatible with POP3 and webmail) or you can forward it to an existing email (a gmail account for example). @staredit.net emails look very impressive on maps smile.gif

Interested in participating? Click here and quickly fill out this form and hit submit. Its not actually a requirement, but we wish to know how many people are participating or this may not happen.

There is no script set up yet to handle map uploads (will be added soon)

Contest Starts October 1st.
Contest Ends January 1st.
Yes, that's 90 days, 3 months.

Stay tuned at Staredit Network for further details!

Infinite thanks to Yoshi.

By the way. Yoshi is a big engine behind this project, most credit goes to him, I'm just the rich boy sponsor who asked Yoshi to help me out.
He also submitted this contest info to alot of big sites, SCLegacy.com is just one of them who will also post info on this contest.

Woot, Bring it on Yoshi, question though. If I was say working on a map befrehand, I had an idea and such, could I start over from scratch, i mean; new terrain, new everything, would that work?

Yes that is legal, if the map is cleanslate.
That is if you start a map with no triggers/terrain.

Building off an idea and or plan is ok.

How do you plan to counter all the offenders? I could just take a make I made like 2 years ago and never released it, and you'll never see throught it... No?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by idoL on 2004-10-02 at 00:18:28
Good question.

I think 3 months is long enough to make a map, if someone is so stupid as to submit an unreleased map, then they probly won't win.

About the prizes.

I live in Australia, how will they get to me (chess set mostly)

idoL, Yoshi, or whomever may be judging.

I have 3 ideas for games in the making.
Domination Map, RPG, and Sniper type.

Which personally strikes your fancy most?
*winks* Or is that to be kept secret?
Thanks!

Lol... stay away from rpg... mine will pwn yours smile.gif Just need to figure out a few more concepts and I can start making.

So let's say I finish this map in like 30 days or so and start it off in public testing stages... how would you know I didn't already release it before the contest? Is there going to be some type of system where you file the map we are working on so you know? Public beta is a necessity I would think and if you just are looking at it them from the finish date... I don't see how else you would know (except common maps like a heros path and such)

sad.gif this sounds fun but ... Im not joining...

with my record of completed maps ... nope not a chance...

I could make a map in time but the problem is ... I can never stay with the same idea to the end w00t.gif

For old maps, its more just "Good Manners" not to do it, or common sense, which means Tux can't use his map, because everyone knows about it being started before now, which is a shame i suppose.

I'll enter as well. Can you also have a dummy prize for the WORST MAP, you know like, they get all the programs used to make a map, an example of the best of each type of map, and all the tutorials...

You sure I can't submit this map? I mean, I just started it a few days ago. pinch.gif

Er...how about remakes of old maps not by me? And by remake, I mean I keep the original concept, but it's a total redo of the original map with new features and etc. Not that isn't going to be original and just a remake of the old map, but rather, let's say...er....based off of the old map.

And can we submit more than one map?

Yeah quick question:
When idoL was in Oo. (as Oo.SnaKe.oO) he proposed a set of contests with similar prizes and the winner was Oo.HackeY.oO, only instead of sending HackeY the prize money after he won one of the contests, idoL started spouting HackeY's personal information (like his name and address) to everyone he could. So how are you so sure he's reliable for this one?

Nice outright lie there, I proposed a 10$ prize and after the tourniment was done, Solar kicked me out of clan Oo so I had no will-power to give censored.gif back, and I didn't give his personal information away, your thinking of Scotter.

Now to awnser some questions.

High: Yes I will ship anywhere, and handle the S/H, don't worry.

Drakiel, Xeno(U), Golden-Fist: No, start from total scratch terrain and trigger wise.

Halphonse]B: No, 1 map only. The best map is the one that best fits the credentials of the 3 areas of judge ment.

Coko: Yes.

Any more questions? Fire away, and please try to keep back the arguements/flames like Devlin.

On a side note: I have 23 people who have sent registrations so far, thanks!

Arguements/flames? It was alegitimate question. He told me that you were giving away personal infromation rather than sending a prize. If that were true, I'd say that's pretty valid information in this situation.

And why would he kick you out for something Scotter did? He said he kicked you because you were telling everyone Hackey's info...

I awnserd your question, stop arguing and being rude, this is NOT the place for that.
Take up to the trash or off topic forums or somting.

Yoshi please delete these replies, it's really stupid/low of Devlin to try to start stuff in this thread.
