Ive alawys wondering this, does anyone know why in the snow terrain and in the desert terrain, player 6 i think it is is a green color instead of the usual brown. Is there an actual reason for this? Or did Blizzard just get bored?
Im sure its a simple answer, but im too stupid to figure it out.
In Ice, the normal White(P7) gets turned into Green, the reason being so he doesn't have a "camoflouge" advantage.
I think that's what you mean/.
Heh, never thought of that. That makes pretty good sense.
White on white isn't the most visible color combination.
Neither is brown on brown.
This was to keep the players visible on the minimap, not really for the actual game.

So how come in badlands brown is still brown? Wouldnt that also be a camoflouge?
No, because if you view the Mini-map, brown buildings are obvious, while the brown terrain is less so.
I'm more worrried with burrowed brown zerg units in ash tilesets... 2 darn dificult 2 see!
I believe 2 have seen it in 1 of the
SC/BW missions... not sure, though.
At first it was simply because they had twelve players, and initially they thought to change colours around, or so i heard. Then when creating the add-on maps it seemed appropiate to have those colours replace them, due to Beta testing people complained, they didn't complain in Starcraft Beta.

As far as I can tell, the desert tileset was arround in early
SC beta stages, they removed it later on development.
4
BW they only fetched it back from the closet... n' maybe a few more. But I'm not sure on these other terrains, tough.
If I recall correctly
SC Legacy (Evolution SC part) site had an article/page dedicated 2 it.
Edit reason: Found the link n' posted it.
WHY ON EARTH DID THEY GET RID OF 12 PLAYERS!?
Becuase Battle.net wouldn't support it and that would be making BW too heavily changed?
Doesn't WC3 have 12 players though? That shouldn't have been too much of a problem. My guess would be lag because computers weren't too wonderful back in those ancient times.
And, I thought Coko was talking about alpha and beta SC, so it would have been in original and BW. Maybe I'm confused though....

And the time release of
WC3? It's way more recent than
SC! Hence it's game engine being weaker (sorta speak) than the new
WC3.
Next time put some thought in2 it be4 statting somethin' like this...

Read more carefully stuff up (read post #10)... where I replied somewhat 2
Coko's (post #9) remark.
Follow the link if wanna know more 'bout
SC history.
"WHY ON EARTH DID THEY GET RID OF 12 PLAYERS!?"
Crap Computers + 56 K Modem + hundreds upon hundreds of sprites + 12 players...
Why do you THINK they took it out?
The green player change is for the campaigns. Each terran or whatever is a different colour, and they remain that same colour throughout the whole campaign. Blizzard needed a new colour.
That makes sense actually, if you go through the Campaign BW, the use of it is evident. Ever noticed that all the triggers that should have Preserve Triggers, lack them in the Maps...

I suppose u're refering 2 the
Teal colour and it being used mainly 2 ease up heroes ID in the campaigns...
And the
Green (colour) on the short movies some of the
BW campaigns had, isn't it?
Edit add:

Yeah, and a lot of messed up triggers... u can see this better when u extract the maps from the CD's install.exe files with
WinMPQ.
I did it just 2 see how a movie in a campaign map was made. But it didn't clicked together when I tried the map as if it was a custom map.
- End edit.Edit reason: Typo (mixed up green with teal) and add stuff.
can u name some movies from the campaigns? those small into-scenes?
I think he meant the small Animations? Or did you mean like the Nuking of your Base in the BW Terran mission?

No, I'm not talking about heroes. I meant like Protoss Tribes, Zerg Broods, and Terran Factions.
Oh... missed ur point (of view).
The colour ID bit 4 a simple recognition was obvious and that's 1 of the reasons I liked the campaigns enough 2 see'em through the lens (with
WinMPQ).
Hmm, I never thought about campaigns for the new colors. That doesn't seem to make sense to me either, because they would probably do it campaign only then, like Fenix for the protoss buildings instead of Aldaris.
I always just thought it was to prevent camouflage. Try setting some player to white on an Ice map and then play. It's horrible to see.
Thels,
Please read the intire thread be4 posting... that was already covered.
Edit reason: Typo...
I do read the entire thread.
But no one seemed to consider that if it was done for the campaigns, it would've been done in the .exe like it's done for Fenix instead of Tassadar as the protoss adviser in most of the protoss campaigns.
