How about this idea for rating:

The ratings from maps that we send in are recorded and whatever the average is, that's our rating.

1-3 - Beginner
4-6 - Intermediate
7-8 - Advanced
9-10 - Uber

So let's say bob turns in 3 maps. He gets a 6, 7, and a 8 for his map ratings. 6+7+8 = 21. 21 divided by 3 is 7. So his rank would be a 7 which is Advanced. It would sure clear out bs of people saying their are uber when they haven't released a map yet.

Sounds like a great rating system!

The point of the rank is to recieve map making help. That would present problems while there are NONE with the current system. Some people might not submit any of their maps, and voting could possibly be biased. If you say you are advanced when you are really a newb it only hurts yourself.

Maybe I should just lock topics with "An advanced mapper would not need help with this, repost when you adjust your skill level" or something.

It's like saying you're a good surgeon when you don't have a PHD. Noone will trust you. Would you trust someone without a license to operate on you? Didn't think so.

However, the system I propose is effecient in that even if you turn in 500 maps and they are all crap, your ranking is taken down as well. This is because it takes the average of your ratings and ranks you based on that.

So whatever you turn in, you are judged for that instead of some hojo waltzin in SEN and saying "uber me up scotty".

Man everytime some one comes up with a new great idea it's just as bad as the last one.

PS. If some one has stopped breathing in a public place and someone steps forwards and claims he is a doctor do you ask for an ID?

. . . you know what thats crap it has nothing to do with what were talking about anyways. the way i see it we have only a few options, do what Moose says however mean it might seem. Or just get used to the fact that people are going to claim advanced when there not. Some of them think "i know what all the triggers do so i'm advanced" is a common line of thinking, stop getting pissed about it.

Maybe i should lock this thread . . .

At first, I liked the idea...
However... there's a couple drawbacks... first, it will cause more spam and secondly, that's getting one step closer to babysitting.

Mebbe if someone posts a topic on cash to kills and they state they are advanced, give it to them with advanced "talk"...

I would have to disagree with you all.

I would prolly get a 6 on that rating system because i can rarely think of a good theme or storyline for a map, but I can do almost every trigger out there and if I can't do a trigger I'll find a way to do it without copying/stealing. If a rating system would be done it should be based on triggers and not on how much you liked the map.

What about having the map team rate the map based on triggers(how well they are used, bugs caused, are they needed? etc) and other stuff?

Hmm, that's not a bad idea at all, Elvang...

Maps are not made by triggers alone.

Listen, if you disagree with the map system do this: When you see an "Advanced" person asking for help, and it seems to be something they should know, just don't help them. They'll get the message, especially after I lock the topic pointing it out. Just use the report function.

You don't need to be a doctor to give someone CPR...

Anyway, what I ask is a system where skill is PROVED rather than guessed by people. Tell me Bolt, what do you have against this system?

The only problems I find are:

- few maps being turned in.

Let's say bob turns in 1 map and gets a 9 on it. A 9 would not accurately display his mapping rating.

- biased people

Let's say bob turns in an awesome map. One day bill and ted find the map and hate bob so they give him a 1 on purpose... hmm...

If this is not the solution to the problem at least suggest an alternative than saying out "this sucks". We need to grade the quality of the maps and the amount of maps turned in as well... I'm just suggesting ideas on how we can improve the accuracy of mapping skill.

I don't think that rating people's maps is necessarily the best thing that can be done. If someone puts advanced as their map makign status and then they ask how to cloak a bunker, they will get reprimanded until they change it. This element should not be forced.

HOW ABOUT WE JUST DONT USE THIS IDEA?
MIGHT RELEASE SOME STRESS ON PEOPLE!
