Well  censored.gif  this I don't have to take this  censored.gif  anymore, I was being VERY nice and willing to shell out $500 and work hard to give bace to the community that obviously is very rude, well BYE,  censored.gif  StarCraft,  censored.gif  map making  censored.gif  Staredit  censored.gif  you.

QUOTE(isolated)
Let me know if this cancellation is your final decision.

QUOTE(idol)
I think "< censored.gif  you all" should be pretty clear.

Well there you have it. idol seems to think everyone should treat him like some sort of god, and when he couldn't buy everyone's respect, he got pissed. A lot of people were thinking he wouldn't go through with it anyways. We could just quit the contest or replace the prizes with something else. It's up to you guys.

On another note, our friends over at Blizzforums.com are holding a new contest each month. This month the contest is map making: Click here for more information. Prizes are "recognition and bragging rights." There isn't anything stopping you from submitting your map for MM2004 to this contest, except, the contest ends December 1st.

Sorry for the late news item, I should have had this up 2 days ago ;/.

This is rediculus, Idol, you need to grow up. I think the map contest should remain in progress and we comeup with some diff prizes, or hell, no prizes at all. Having a contest will affect the community posatively pushing mappers to test their limits. I vote the contest remains! And I am DISGUSTED with Idols attitude. pinch.gif

just what did ppl do to make idol change his mind so drastic?
if he was that unreliable i dont know how he could be this trusted by SEN and yoshi in the first place

I'm voting we keep up the competition, too. I'm trying to enter with a really detailed map, and I've got a feeling that if we call off the contest, I'll never be able to discipline myself to finish it. crazy.gif

Oh well, let's think of the replacement of the prize... How about the judges use their minerals as the prize ? tongue.gif

Well... otherwise you can win triumph if you win the contest. happy.gif

Report, edit, etc...Posted by Kenoli on 2004-10-27 at 04:46:38
You could make a map hall of fame, and have the winner's map be the first to be placed in it.
And the @staredit.net e-mails for the next to best maps.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Kow on 2004-10-27 at 06:22:05
Just maybe a personalized trophy in their profile and a line saying "MM2k4 Winner, 2nd place"...

not uber... idk... but that is just leveling us...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by .Coko[CK] on 2004-10-27 at 06:33:46
A lot of people do not care about an Email address at Staredit.net nor, "Minerals" or "Uber - Level" because they wanted the cash involved. Did iDol ever actually show off these "prizes" so that we knew he wasn't lying?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Moogle on 2004-10-27 at 07:01:44
Never did trust this contest, so i never started a map for it. So goes show idol wasnt going pay even if you did win -_- unless he had money n dont want give it up. who knows, but him saying censored.gif u all to us, is very rude i say we kill him n hang him on a banner on site. This what happen's to ppl who censored.gif wif SEN! lol kidding.

Someone, when the contest was first announced, said idol was a liar.

I vote we forge on! I kinda like the idea of an @staredit.net email address and also minerals and a title, if your still holding it Isolated, then I'm still in.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by idoL on 2004-10-27 at 11:14:12
That was very censored.gif ing biased, Isolated, you didn't quote it all and you didn't even explain my side; alls I said was Salacious and others seem to get away with flaming others, yet I get into trouble, and if you would have handeld that problem, I would have been happy to keep contribtuing to the community, my point is VERY good and clear: why shell out almost $500 to a group of pricks? And you just blew it off like whatever. Well screw it, I don't/won't put up with this. I don't play StarCraft anymore and I dont care.

And besides, what the hell do you think PRIVATE messages are?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by qPirateKing on 2004-10-27 at 11:42:10
Sorry to see this happen.

When the contest was first announced, the community really bought into it, and everyone who thought he had even the slightest mapping skill was ready to give it a shot. Even if it turns out to be a stillborn attempt at revitalizing the community, it gave some people the impetus to really try to do something great. I support the idea of continuing the contest despite dimished prize packages.

I don't care if it was chicanery on idoL's part; it did the community some good. Show him some respect for starting it up. Sorry, but IP's quotes and commentary have a certain sickening degree of bias that compels me to side with idoL on this.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DevliN on 2004-10-27 at 11:51:57
Actually the $500 would have gone to the winners of the contest, whether they were this "group of pricks" or not. So saying that your reason for not giving this prize money is due to people who may not win (or even enter) the contest is pretty censored.gif ed up in its own way.

And sure, its a private message, but it was important that the community knew about this. It would have been much worse if a winner was declared and no one but isolated knew about your quitting, and when it comes time for them to recieve the prize money and it wont come then you'll look like even more of an censored.gif . So I think him telling us was a good thing.

Oh and thanks for posting about our contest at BlizzForums, isolated! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

--- After this post I will no longer be coming here, I haven't read any of the above posts nore will I read read any other posts, I quit StarCraft a long time ago when I realized it's pointless and Battle.net was infested with morons, and map making is a waste of time. Well gotta run, I have an express bus trip to hell to catch.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by (U)Bolt_Head on 2004-10-27 at 13:07:16
Things like this are funny. If i were Salacious, i would be proud of pissing you off to such a degree. It only makes you look bad when you take the actions of so few, so personally.

PS. The contest would be a good way to bring back map of the month. Other than money, what motivates most mapmakers is recognition. Staredit.net is a very popular site and having a map publicly supported by the site is quite a prize in itself. Map of the month is a great idea, previously it was just yoshi’s pick but if we tried we could put up a monthly contest and judge the new maps every month.

Yeah quick question:
When idoL was in Oo. (as Oo.SnaKe.oO) he proposed a set of contests with similar prizes and the winner was Oo.HackeY.oO, only instead of sending HackeY the prize money after he won one of the contests, idoL started spouting HackeY's personal information (like his name and address) to everyone he could. So how are you so sure he's reliable for this one?

Told ya so! tongue.gif

funny thing is i made a "lets all ban idoL" thread in garbage a while ago and yoshi said he had to reason to.. and that idoL is a censored.gif . Funny thing is, his map making skill was set to advanced when me and alpha(MC) saw this jungle rpg he made... sucked a$$! O, and i think hes the moron thats infesting b.net
