First time to post for Serious Discussion. I've always thought about this before. I know space is VERY big but don't you think there must be an ending? What will it be beyond space? Just want to know what you guys think about it.
This is one the of the things ive never been able to wrap my mind around, all i can say is that there is null, nothing, nadda, everlasting nothingness, zilch etc etc
Maybe you would implode if you reach the edge? I have no idea, maybe someone with a phyics background can shead some light on this?
I think that it has an end.... just an idea i thought up now... it is just beyond how far we will ever go, even with the speed of light +, and not die.....idk lol
ADDITION: But thats also like trying to contemplate the whole trinity thing... too much for our feeble minds...
Discussing an end to space is linked to the choice between creationism or evolution.
Most people who believe in creation have the mindset that anything is possible in god's works. So if God wanted it to go forever, what stops it. I mean, heaven is suppose to exist in a place that does not exist. Life after death is possible.
Most people who believe in evolution believe in facts, surities, and limits. They look at the word infinty and say that it is not a abstract concept, for every part of infinity is a number, that number just keeps going. They believe there is a limit set by rules to how a thing most act, such as space. It can not go on forever, for you must run out of 'space' for space sometime.
Sentinal thats a highly untrue stereotype about evolutionists. In fact most evolutionsist dont have a definate awnser for the size of the universe. It could go on for an infinite distance or it could just be so enourmous that our human brains label it as infinite.
There does not have to be an end for the universe. The Big Bang model works in either scenario. But for a second assume the universe is infinite. With infinite chances could there on another planet be humans ? To be able to awnser this question you first have to grasp infinity in a technical sense, with infinity many things are possible.

In a sense there is no "edge" to the universe, it is always expanding within "something". The universe is actually only the matter that was within the big bang. The edge if you want to call it that is that of physics. We can only exist in this universe because physics allows us too. So if we were to go past this invisible boundry, you couldnt that part that went "beyond" would simply cease to exist.
An expression of my opinion was all that was, and the reason i said 'most'. My grandfather happens to teach evolutionism and used to be one of america's top scientists, so even though i might not be talking from a personal experience, i do have my refernces straight.
i dunno. i think that maby we are like in a marble or something, and then eventurally we will hit the then, then what, the universe will emplode? becuase the universe is speeding up expanding.... so its like..

As far as I know, which may not be much, the universe is expanding infinitely, or until there is so much matter it will implode and cause another big bang. So you can't reach the edge of space or whatever because as you draw near it is still expanding.
i just had a stroke of brilliance... the universe is speeding up right? well, once it gets to the speed of light, and then goes faster, it goes BACK in time right? so maby it will reverse BACK to the big bang...
who said there's space in the first time?

There are three theories on the Big Bang.
All the matter will eventually turn around, and go back to the center of the Universe for another Big Bang
All the matter will continue to expand infinitely.
And one more that I can't quite remember ;(
As for space, space is actually some sort of "entity". Gravity for example can warp space, even though space is NOTHING... So apparently maybe it is something. Physicists haven't exactly figured that one out yet.
@ first post: Talk about being vague. Of course space is vast. Therell be infinite amount of stars and systems, planets and celestial bodies. Just looking up at the night sky and realizing that we are just a minute speck of dust in the grand scheme of a universe... thats something.
I Think the last the one is the BIg Rip. It says that the universe will expand so much that all atoms will be pulled further apart and all matter will be grinded into basic elements and stuff.
Well thats pretty basic but you get the idea right?
Well heres something off a site that in CnPing just to get some minerals
There’s no easy way of explaining what causes the Pull we’re dealing with here. It all has to do with how the Universe works.
The story goes something like this. 4,5 Billion years ago, all matter and energy and time blew into existence, with the surrealistic explosion we call the ‘Big Bang’. Ever since, the Universe expands and cools, much like a ball of fire escaping after a huge explosion. The debris - that’s the stars, the galaxies, the planets and us - flies off in all directions. Everything in the Universe gets further and further apart from each other since the dawn of time.
But in recent years, scientists discovered there is something weird going on, too. Galaxies at the edges of the Universe don’t seem to slow down as you might expect. Instead, they speed up. Some bizarre and totally unknown force seems to be pulling on them from the outside, the calculations show. The expansion of the Universe accelerates. And so-called ‘Phantom Energy’ is what causes the pull.
It is hard to imagine how extraordinarily super intense this Phantom Force really is. It compares to nothing we know of in nature. To give you an idea: try to add up all the forces you can think of. Take every atom in the Universe, turn it into an atomic bomb and collect the power of all the explosions. Next, take every star that ever burnt in the Universe, plus every star that will ever burn, and tap all the energy it will ever give off. Now, add up all this energy. What you have now is slightly less than three percent of Phantom Energy, a mere fraction of the biggest beast we know in nature.
By now, you’ll begin to understand how serious the situation really is. Right now, Phantom Energy is only stretching up the Universe a bit. But in the long run, it will get bored with that. It will start unraveling the Universe itself: the stars, the galaxies, and yes, those tiny worms calling themselves ‘men’.
We don’t know exactly when we will begin to feel the Pull: that depends on the details of how Phantom Energy works and how big it is exactly. According to one calculation, done by US physicist Robert Caldwell in February 2003, the Big Rip could kick in 22 billion years from now. At sixty million years before the end, the Milky Way is destroyed. Three months before the end, there goes the Solar System. Thirty minutes before the end: boom, that was planet Earth.

Think of it this way...
Let's say that the universe size is 0.000...1.
And every hour it increases by that same amount.
That means it's continualy increasing, but will never reach the size of 1.0.
Also, supposing someone could somehow reach this supposed 'edge', supposing it exists, then when they pass through it, then they're 'expanding' the universe, creating more universe where they are.
And why do I thin kso?
Vacuum=NOTHING
Universe=99.999...% vacuum(I don't really believe that, just some random number from my ass)
So, thereis nothingess beyond the universe, which is the universe itself, so it is both expanding infinitely and also already at the size '1'.
I SUCK!
Ahh well I guess we will never get past

What if the universe is sort of like a loop if you get to the end you'll actually just be at the start, I dunno why but the comment about what if there is humans in some other galaxy got my brain pumping to think of that, even though it's probably wrong. More humans in an alternate galaxy would be awesome, what if there were alternate universes with like tiny or big differences like if someone kills a bug or lets it live? Everytime there was a choice to be made a world would split and make a new universe. OOOOOOOOOOOOOO that's deep.

Everything has an ending.
My thinking is space is slowly expanding, and that space is merely a subset of something greater.
Our Universe continues to expand daily and rapidly so really there's no set boundary to it and we cannot tell or even conclude that there's stuff beyond space
Ive always though that if you kept going you would loop and get back where you started. Assuming you could live for 80 trillion years and your spaceship had unlimited
I dont believe that all matter will come back and create a "big crunch". If the universe is infinite then it will keep going on forever. And things will be spread out to far for gravity to have any effect on them.
PS: We are due to crash with a galaxy in 9 billion years. Our entire solar system will be anhilated. Just thought you would like to know.
i kinda agree with high, but what if there is acually some thing at the end? maybe a time portal O_O or some thing along that line, its almost scary if you think about it, we never know what could happen....or who could come "visit" us
