I personally love the concept of armies. I so wanted to pwn on it before I became an admin. There are, though, some faults with it. For example, it has a weak economy due to the fact it is integrated with the minerals on the rest of the site. You waste money attacking people and repairing your weapons because no one actually has money to take. Although this isn't a priority at the moment, what are some possible fixxes? I'm curious what you guys have in mind. Someone was talking about it having its own seperate economy, like the orginal mod probably has. Each day factories or whatnot produce money or the bigger your army size, the more cash you get.
However, this was my thought:
The army system would run on vesprene gas instead of minerals.
While posting and gettintg minerals, your post also counts towards vesprene gas. You would get 2x the amount for a post that you would get as minerals.
Each day, X amount of vesprene gas is added to each account. I was thinking, 100 or something similar.
Orginally, I had plans to also allow minerals to be converted to gas with some ungodly ration of like 3:1. However, this would prove to be unfair for anyone spending their current minerals in armies and people who have 100's of minerals at the present and would just enter armies now. Although.. it couldn't possibly upset the balance that much. It could be offsetted with a mineral reset as well.
Let me know your thoughts.
I wasn't planning on playing Armies anyway.
I get attacked daily, so I just upgrade my defense. No one really uses minerals for anything but the army so I don't think it matters all that much.
Haven't touched armies since you joined, so i have little opinion.
I think the current setup is fine.
I have a question, can people drop out of army once they start?
Yes. There's an option to change your race. Upon doing so, you can select "no race" and you won't be in the army anymore.
Take note, upon changing your race to anything, you loose everything you had.
yes we do need some kind of separate economy.
My def and attack are so high that I can't do nothin. people have no mins and people don't attack me.
Of course. All you 2900 minerals are safe
Nah no one attacks me because I have the #1 defense. Even if I had a billion mins outside that bank people will still not attack me.
BTW: Suggestion to isolated make the % ratio that you steal from the people you attack higher. When I attack someone and if I get 3 minerals from someone with 100 I got real lucky.
Something definatly should be done. I've only found one person i could actaully get money off of and i have long since tapped that resource =/ Just yesterday i was comtemplating selling all my stuff because when my army size actually allows me to attack someone i never get paid. so lame. And armies is super easy btw. If you get like 3 or 4 weapon upgrades you jump to like the twenties. thats what i did lol =D I kind of like how minerals are used for everything. I joined armies because i thought i would get 2500 mins alot faster with armies than i would with posting...boy was i wrong. but i still like the idea that it isnt seperate from the rest of the site.
So if you were to switch the Army currency to Vespene Gas and not Minerals, would that mean that we would all have to start over or can we still keep our current armies?
U know, some gaming communities very similar to Kings of Chaos use this thing where several people are grouped together to form some sort of kingdom. Utopia uses this format and it is so much funner than Kings of Chaos. You have a Kingdom leader, you can share, trade armies/money/spells, and you must build up the strongest kingdom. IN Utopia, you dont just fight over mineral gainages; but more of land. So if you win your assault upon someone, you gain his land, which makes your kingdom larger. We should do something like this for SEN.

Lol devlin, i attack you daily because you got so much minerals rofl. It's part of my agenda to launch all 5 attacks of mine unto you.
Yeah but you only get between 1 - 3 with each attack. I was saving my minerals to donate to the signature contest, but I got attackd so much that I just wasted it on more defense.
If only I were to attack people...I have about 2,700 attack turns.
EDIT:
Hmm is there any way that you can add a rankings section? I'm currently ranked 20 in the army thing but I was wondering who was 1-19.
I don't really see the need for seperate currencies. Once you buy the major effect items, you don't really have anything else to spend minerals on.
When you attack someone and it says 'enemy suffered 0 casualties' does anything ever die? I've never seen a unit die. Or is it talking about sabotaging weapons and such?
Yeah I've never seen more than 1 casualty on both sides. Also, I'm rank 19 now; who are 1 - 18?
EDIT:
Do untrained soldiers actually do anything, or do I have to make them some sort of specialist before they would attack for or defend me?
i say keep it minerals, it will be less complicated, people who dont want to lose their minerals, then dont participate in starcraft armies
change them...
and btw...
i cant use the armie it wont let me in
Bah... so hard to get minerals without spamming.
There should be a casino or something o.O

So now I'm rank 12, and I haven't done anything since my last post. I don't think the Army is all that challenging...
That's because no one plays.
?
Damn your logic!
In that case, don't make gas and all that hoo-hah.
But still a rank thing would be nice, if possible...
...oh and name it "DevliN's Rank Page, where everyone is almost or as good as pie" or something. That'll really get the Army popular!
I do think something needs to be done, there needs to be an easier way to get minerals, the army system just isn't worth it. I think doing that you loose more than you make. Thats why i stopped doing it. The only way I get minerals now is by posting and that takes forever.
Devin, when you go to attack someone, you see the rank page.
"No one plays"
See... if people HAVE vesprene gas that is only used for armies, perhaps they'll play armies because they have money for it.

Exactly my point.
Seriously though. We have weapons that cost 10,000 minerals... how is that even possible, let alone, worth it.
Now if posts count toward vesprene gas AND you get x amount of vesprene gas every 3 hours or so, it'll give people something to attack. Another factor in all this is the fact that dt_bk's bank actually became popular. See, beer attacked me like 10 times stealing 800ish minerals and because beer has all his minerals in the bank, I can't attack back. Vesprene gas = no hiding the cash.

Perhaps somethings in armies could cost gas as well as minerals. Key upgrades or something. Or... other mineral sinks could be thought of such as the need to buy the item for custom titles

I plan on it eventually.
Whatcha talking about isolated? Did I do that?
I know I stole like 800-1000 mins but if I didn't have mine in bank you couldn't kill me since I have #1Def and I could easily get 3k mins worth of def just like that.
Vespene gas would be a great idea for armies but what would minerals be for? items at the store that I already have/don't want.
If you add vespene you should make lots of useful items at store so that the economy can get going.
