Staredit Network -> Concepts -> Center View tip

I just thought I'd mention that everytime I have a center view trigger, a few things happen

1. It will not go immediately there, but the screen will shoot over to the destination.
2. Once it reaches it's destination, the mouse will be moved into the middle. Therefore, using a Centwr View trigger with preserve trigger is only good for movie maps or cinematics. You can't have people play and have their vision stuck at the same time.
3. If you center the screen near the edge, it will leave a matrix square on the side, therefore, if you have terrain that is size 12x20 in the corner and center vire there, the player will see a 1 matrix square border around the edges of the terrain that aren't on the edge of a map. It does this even if the location is all the way into the corner.

I just thought it might be helpful to some people. (This is based off of my own experiences, so if it reacts differently with your computer, I will try to figure out what's wrong with my computer.)

1 and 2 oinly apply to maps played in singe player. Multiplayer center view instantly jumps and does not lockdown mouse.

Are you testing this on battle.net or are you testing it in single player?

I'm not sure about Numbers 2 and 3, but if I test a map in single player and I do a center location, it will shoot over to the location. Hope this helps.

Oh, I tested it on Single Player because my Internet wasn't working at the time.

Ok...what center view does in single player.

Which has little effect because most multiplayer maps are played on Bnet.

That center view effect for single player and multiplayer is stupid. If blizzard would listen i say make them both as multiplayer.
Both types should be the same and not different because it's one game.

I really don't understand: why does single player sucks that much? I mean...the centre view bit...It's really bad, and the triggers tend to delay A LOT in single player mode...

Single Player is usually stuck in "Normal" speed setting so you have to change it every single game. That will make it go faster. But the reason that it scrolls differently is because of aesthetics I guess. They though it looked better or something, but made it instant for multiplayer due to speed considerations.

It does look better for things like RPGs when your like OMG THERES AN ATTACK HERE. When the screen scrolls to the spot its easy to tell where you are related to where you were.

I guess you're right.

What I meant by number 3.

I tested it mroe again to check I wasn't screwed up on it.

When Cnetrering View on Single Player, it doesn't seem to let the edge of the screen go the bottom of the screen. So, after centering view, no matter where it was, you can scroll down atleast 1 matrix square.

I should test my maps on B.net more often.

On RPG maps it doesn't really matter where your screen gets moved to, because most of the time you only control one unit, and it is very easy to tell where a little red (or any other player color) dot is on the minimap. Plus, you should have your unit hotkeyed anyways...

As for the screen being moved instead of jumping, it may be a nice effect, but I think it is unnecessary. Thanks for pointing out the differences for single player and multiplayer... I never knew that about the CENTER VIEW command.

Single Player is set to fast speed, on basic.
