QUOTE(Deutsch Welle)
Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat has died after slipping into a coma on Wednesday at a French military hospital.

Yasser Arafat, the 75 year-old Palestinian leader, was determined to be clinically dead in a French military hospital. Arafat was being treated there for an unknown illness.

The frail head of the Palestinian Authority arrived in Paris last week after losing consciousness briefly at his West Bank headquarters. Arafat was at first said to have been suffering from a severe case of influenza, but was later diagnosed as having blood abnormalities and trouble with digestion.

Palestinian officials then ran tests for leukemia but the cancer was ruled out, and doctors remained uncertain what was causing his illness. Arafat's condition worsened three days ago and he slipped into a coma on Wednesday.

Born in Cairo in 1929, Yasser Arafat preferred to claim Jerusalem as his birthplace. He became politically active as a 19-year-old engineering student in Egypt in 1948, when the Arab countries that declared war on the fledgling state of Israel were defeated and thousands of Palestinians forced to flee their homes as a result.

I wonder how his death is gonna effect the conflict over there. If only Castro would follow suite...

It was so sad because you knew he was going to die. He was loosing alot of weight. Fast. I did not know he died yet...It was sort of like a countdown to his death ever since he went to the French hospital. A bit sad. cry.gif

Damn well he is very old and now we just need to hope his former country doesnt go in mayhem.

Arafat supported Palestinian terrorists who commited violent acts against innocent people in Israel. He was an obstacle in the peace process and the world (especially the middle east) is better off without him. Hopefully he is succeeded by honorable people. In time, he will be remembered (even by Palestinians) as a tyrant.

Im sure very few people will be feeling "sad", KaboomHahahein.

Mr.Arafat once said:
"No one can kick me out. They can kill me with bombs but I will not leave."

In english that means: I am a terroist loving dictator.

RIP.

And yes, he is dead, it's just not reported on the major news networks yet, Google search "Yasser Arafat", many sites report he is infact a dead man.

the old saying goes one mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter, that is especially true in the case of Yasser Arafat

well if he was a terrorsit lover, many terrorist groups will probably uprise in the middle east, but i say, too bad soo sad, he liked terrorists so he coundn't be any good to the help of freeing iraq, he was proobably as bad as saddam hussein, if not worse...

would you know if the leader of your country died ? I think so.

I think there are a few possible outcomes of this.

1. Things will carry on as is, and the political leadership change will make little difference to the situation. Arafat was a legend amongst his people, they've declared a 40 day mourning period after all, making him ever so slightly different from Castro.

2. A single leader will emerge, one who is pro peace and willing to make some compromises with the Jewish government, and the situation in Israel/Palestine will be put to bed

3.A single leader will emerge, who is against the peace deals that have been agreed so far, and a return to the dark days of mass suicide bombings, followed by retribution by the Israeli military will be back in full force, with the possibility then of completely destabilising the region.

4. A number of lower profile, regional leaders will emerge, with no one high profile figurehead. This could work in any of the 3 ways mentioned above and end up creating a similar situation as was/is the case in Northern Ireland eventually.

5. A 10 year holy war will result as notradamus prophesized. something that will make the last few decades of conflict seem pale in comparison.

America doesn't care about his death because we hate Palestine. And why do we hate Palestine? Because we created Israel.

And you can't say Palestine is doing the only terrorist acts because Israel is as well. And you have to also take into account that Israel was created on Palestine land and they kicked out all the Palestinians once they got control of the land. Sad since jerusalem is a holy land for the Jewish and Islamic religions, so those a re true jihads that they fight.

And all of you who use the "terrorist" word to brand the Palestinians have to look at the Israelis as well. Both are killing innocent people.

Technically we liked terrorists, too. We did, after all, give Saddam tons of weapons so he could fight Iran. And this was before, during, and after the Gulf War - in which he was our enemy.

And as far as the leadership in Palestine goes, they are debating that now.

This is the most likely outcome. There will be no rebellion or uprisings, a new leder will come and nothing will change.

Actually when you put that into context, he was being bombed to hell by Israelis - and in fact was living in a palace whose walls were basically destroyed. The quote meant "I wont give up fighting this cause." How is that like "I'm a terrorist loving dictator?" He was fighting to get his land back.

I didn't put it into any context except his own words, sir.

He didn't exactly condone terroism -- infact he used it sometimes and approved of it, thus he must of atleast liked it.

About the sad thing.. they interviewd some people and they said his loss will be sad. And stuff like that. I don't really care I'm just saying what some people think. And yes there are people who don't like him.

that is true, we did give saddam weapons to help with a fight against Iran, because he WOULD have helped us, and that was before 9/11 where we believed that he had helped out al quieda...thats why we attacked him, because we hate terrorists

i wholeheartedly agree with the first part, but i like President Bush, he said he would liberate Lebanon from syria, because of them most people don't consider us a country anymore, my parents had to fight in a war at the ages of 15 because they assassinated our president, so far, hes the only one who promised to help, we have nobody else that can help us cry.gif

i know that shadow, but what other choice do we have? we can't fight them i've been to Lebanon, they have a tank in the town square.....a tank...in town square....what, do you think we can fight them if they have the abilities to kill our president, started an entire war, made us recruite teenagers as soldiers, beat us in the war, put us under seige, and have kept us under seige for over 14 years

Actually she announced he was alive while he was in a coma. Being in a coma is technically being alive, after all. Some power-hungry regime declared that he was dead during this time. That is why there was some cnfusion. Then French doctors came out and said he was in fact alive, but in a coma. So she wasn't lying at all.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Reever on 2004-11-12 at 20:27:01
No she said he was getting better and could be out soon, but the doctors sadi he was in serious condition.
