Report, edit, etc...Posted by Sinister_X on 2004-11-22 at 10:53:33
hey guys well last friday my good freind died in a car accedent and it got me thinking whats the point to life. I mean i believe in god and all but our existance, i mean the human race its all pointless. You see if we were to be destroyed tomorrow no one in the universe would weep for us. We wouldnt make a difference, time would keep going, the world would keep spinning and no one would care. I was just wondering what you guys thought the point of our existance was. I mean we have no enemys other than here on earth. Is it just a test to see how long until we kill ourselfs? what the hell was god thinking when he created us are we just some game to him? well i dont know but i would like to hear your opinions. closedeyes.gif

God created us to worship him. One of his angels fell, which resulted in a good vs evil. The point for your existence is to worship and follow God and God-willing convert other 'lost' people...

Yep there it all is in a lil summary.

very interesting, life can be anything u think ! happy.gif
it can be a god created it
just an chemical reaction ?
just a dream ?
just a think ?

if you wonder WHY god created it, it's maybe for ? :
- visist the huge world
- we wanted to go on earth
- go "test" god's creation
- a punition ??
- a "test" of your personality, to evaluate your soul??
- just for have fun
- to live some adventures?

lol, that just possibilities i think up !

Agree, agree, agree...

Sinister_X, you say the meaning of human is pointless, why do you bother about your friend?... if the life is pointless, and you still live it, then why bother? and if you don't want to life, becaues it's pointless, why don't you take suicide? AND if you don't dare to take suicide, maybe that is the reason to live.. who knows, well if not, your friend died without have to think off it, and was saved alot of trouble...
then only ones that will "suffer" his death, well, any peoples death is the ones that are still living...

You may enjoy life from time to time, but is it worth it?... well, I guess we'll never get that question answered... so, why bother....

Don't bother searching for an objective meaning to life, you'll never find it. The purpose to life is subjective, and I think it's better that way. It would suck if the meaning to your life was arbitrated by a third party.

The point of life is to try and save others from the grips of the devil.
Being good and pleasing God.

I think you should try and read the Bible. Read the Gospel Mark in the New Testement. In there it will tell you how much God loves us. And Read the first book in the Bible, Genesis. There you will find how and why God created us.

Some of the things will not come to you right away so you will have to pray to God to help you understand.

We live to worship, yet we also live to feel, touch, think, etc. All of the traits of the human race, our intelligence, our ability to create, and our feelings, they were all made for a certain reason. God made us to worship yes, but he also wanted to give you the choice to worship. He wanted you to feel the happiness of joy, the sorrow of pain, and the strength of anger. Life is not meaningless, but the meaning of it is distorted. The meaning of life is different for all people. You see it as you want to see it. And whatever you choose to do with your mortal life will affect how you live your eternal life. So keep that in mind the next time you are about to do something stupid, and ask yourself...Would God (or whoever you worship) want me to do this? Would he not want me do this?

We live to eat pie. Simple as that. Without pie, all is lost.

No but seriously, I think it is a good point to think that if the human race was extinct and only the other animals were left then what would happen? Peace. I'm not a religious person at all and (though I think Christ was a pretty cool dude and had awesome teachings) I think that Christianity (or any other organized religion for that matter) condemns life. If we're here to be in constant fear of God and failure, then why live at all?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Sinister_X on 2004-11-23 at 11:19:50
I live becuase we were created with the basic instinct to live but if our exitance is to convert bad to good then it is like a game. and since god can do anything couldnt he just wipe the bad or not have created them in the first place closedeyes.gif

If God could do anything, why do other religions that don't believe in God exist? And why would God allow science to exist, especially science that proves evolution is in fact real. Hell, Darwin wouldn't even have existed in that case.

We're not here to just fear God. Instead, we believe He is the way to eternal life. So, we believe in what He has to say. Now, I am asuming that when you refer to someone "fearing God" that you should be afraid of Him and if you do something wrong you will get punished. But the "fear" represented in the bible is not a frightened fear, but it is the fear knowing that God is almighty and omnipotnent (all powerful).

Life does suck. It is always boring and there is nothing you can do about it. I was just talking about this kind of thing to my friends. Is it even neccessart to live? You may WANT to live but you don't NEED to.

I only read most of the first post, but here's what I say:

Why do you play Starcraft?
"Because it's fun."
Why do you care about 'fun'?
"Because it makes me happy."
Why do you care about being happy?
Now is when people that I ask start rephrasing things: "So I cna enjoy life", "Because I like being happy."(Why does it matter if you like being happy?), and so on.

So my view; there is no purpose of life.
It's random and pointless.
As far as I can tell, it's impossible to come up with some self-justfiying reason, I don't believe in any purpose in life.
And even if there were someone to weep for us if humans died? So what, why does it matter if there is or not?

EDIT: On another note, life is a game to me.
That's how important it is.

Eternal life? As in endless? So if I believe in God, then I will become an immortal? Or do you mean living in heaven after we die? Unless of course, we're Jewish or Muslim or Budhist or Daoist or polytheistic or any other religion that doesn't believe in a heaven and hell.

And what does he have to say? From my understanding, the Bible was stories of Jesus' followers meaning God had nothing to do with its publication. The only person I can think of that was famous for speaking to God was Joan of Arc - and she was burned by God's children.

I couldn't think of any reason to believe in God other than in fear, so yeah I suppose I mean afraid of him - considering there is no real other meaning for fear. And if we fear knowing that God is almighty and omnipotent, then how is that not being "afraid of him" when you basically say that we fear this all powerful quality?

I mean no disrespect to you or anything, I've just never been a fan of organized religion. In my opinion, Jesus was the only Christian...a Jewish-Christian at that.

We believe in god because we fear what may become of us if we dont because our brain tells us "but what if there is" i think its time we got on aanother planet earth was so much better in the midevil ages when your purpuse was to defend attack or explore

The point of the human race is to die, just like the meaning of life is death. [/sarcasm]

There is no "point" of the human race, honestly I wish people would stop asking this stupid question. You are born, you lenjoy what little time you have on this earth alive and you dont worry about the meaning of every little thing, mainly existence. Firstly because its a futile search that will never have an awnser.

As for the whole God and religon thing making your point in life. Whatever you can believe whatever you want to believe, nobody has made any promises to you.

But as Drunkenwrestler has stated, the purpose of life is subjective. So dont go asking someone else the meaning of life because its their meaning, not yours.

Yeah it was better when 80% of the population was in slavery under the feudal system. You're right, the medieval times were better. blink.gif

more like 90% Devlin, and of those 90% all of them had a life expectancy of around 40. Not to mention your chances of even making it that far were slim. Even if you were part of that 10% your chances of living long were still hardly any better. yea the mideval times were amazing.

Yes, 90. My mistake. I've always wanted to live a life of hard labor only to get nothing in return. Sounds groovy.

That is true that everyone has a different point of view about the point of life. But everyone can help each other find a meaning in life together. Everyone has a different purpose in life, large or small, but no madder how big the difference is everyone has some kind of purpose.

The purpose of life is simple
Happiness
Love
Human emotion
It's the one true constant in this world
Find something you care about
Then you have a purpose

What do I care about?
The people who care about me
My friends
Those people
(Not my parents)
But yea that's it
