LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A California teacher has been barred by his school from giving students documents from American history that refer to God -- including the Declaration of Independence.

Steven Williams, a fifth-grade teacher at Stevens Creek School in the San Francisco Bay area suburb of Cupertino, sued for discrimination on Monday, claiming he had been singled out for censorship by principal Patricia Vidmar because he is a Christian.

"It's a fact of American history that our founders were religious men, and to hide this fact from young fifth-graders in the name of political correctness is outrageous and shameful," said Williams' attorney, Terry Thompson.

"Williams wants to teach his students the true history of our country," he said. "There is nothing in the Establishment Clause (of the U.S. Constitution) that prohibits a teacher from showing students the Declaration of Independence."

...

Among the materials she has rejected, according to Williams, are excerpts from the Declaration of Independence, George Washington's journal, John Adams' diary, Samuel Adams' "The Rights of the Colonists" and William Penn's "The Frame of Government of Pennsylvania."

I think this crap has gone too far now, i could say something about how unjust and blah blah blah. But blantantly some people need to just shut the hell up. First it was the ten commandments in front of a building, then pledge of alliegance, now this.

censored.gif ing hell, i hate this

Im not american but I assume that like 90% of all regious people worship some form on Christianity, so why the censored.gif should we have to cater for the minority?

90% of people in the world worship some form of God, not necessarily Christianity, I believe. I dunno the ratio in America. But in America, we are always catering to racial minorities. We give them stupid ass benefits for being a minority. That's not exactly equality. Free market = you work to achieve your prosperity, yet, government steps in and helps you out if you are a minority? So while minorities get free tickets to go to college and censored.gif , I struggle under the pressure of paying for it? How exactly is that fair. How is that equal? Grrrr.

Anyways, yeah. America is getting stupid.

I meant America is mostly Christian, same with basically all First world countires it seems.

Equality these days is censored.gif ed, those grants you were talking about, women vs men, i swear there are millions of TV adds steroityping men as stupid, but if one came on steriotyping women, the legion would rise up and start screaming "SEXISM"

thats doesnt seem equal to me

Good lord, the delcarstion is not a religious document, and it has important facts in it, such as Jefferson declaring our "inalienable rights" (life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness). I agree. I'm not a Bush supporter, but this has gone a little to far.

I personally don't say the pledge, not because it says God in it, but because I say it without meaning it. So i see it fit to not say it rather than say it and not mean it.

In World History (Non modern, aka pre 1000's) How long did you spend on arabs/Muslims, how long did you spend and into what detail did you spend on christianity/judaism? I can almost garuntee that you spend more time on the muslim religeon...

Jesus
F-ing
Christ.

Some people really need to get over themselves and REALIZE that everyone is offended by everything. A Christian has every right to go up to an athiest and say, "your lack of religon is chool offends me" as an athiest has the right to "your religon is school offfends me." THe moral of this story? Stick to classes that don't have anything to do with religon...

wait, what is that? every subject does? well what do you frickin know...

Man, people complain about everything.

I mean come on, you'd rather not have the kids learn about Americas Independance and things we need to learn because it makes referances to God? Jesus, that's so stupid. People like that need to get over it and realize its not going to go away or be shot. Both work.
