Do you guys think its a bad idea to tell kids to beleive in things like Santa Clause, the tooth fairy.. etc.
I hate when people do it because "why would 'Santa' buy more presents for Jimmy over here then Bobby?" Some people are simply more richer then others, and I here kids crying all the time about it. It hurts my heart.
And also.. why do parents even TELL their kids about Santa Clause from the start? Is there a point?
If the kids belive in Santa, they better understand the Christmas spirit. They are little kids and don't yet understand the gift of giving. It adds to the magic. And this topic should be deleted... There is a 9-year-old here and maybe someone still believes.
By the way, after seeing Miracle on 34th Street, I wonder, what does the Post Office do with the millions of Santa Claus letters they get each year? Burn them? Dump them out over the north Pole?
Santa is the equivalent of Jesus... You might believe in him or not, but wether (typo??) he actually exists/existed/performed special things/has(had) magic powers (

) is something no one will ever find about.
And you honestly shouldn't browse OPPINION forums, encouraging freedom of speech if you're scared to find out about these studities being true or not.
I think you should tell them about the things. You can get the children in the holiday spirit. When they are old enough to realise the truth, they will understand. THey won't go all crazy and destroy everything just because a guy does/did? exsite. Also if you do tell them the truth, they might to go their friends and go "NOO! Sanata Clause does not exist" then they will argue and a fight will start (worst case).
However if you ARE the parents and you are going to tell the about santa clause toothfary etc. you should carry out what you are doing. Example...my parents

when I was little never gave me my money for my teeth.
Yes...wait...No...Wait BOTH
I say yes because it gives your kids personality. It gives them hope and something to believe in. Although they will out grow it...hopefully. It makes them happy to think that someone else cares for them...other than relatives and such.
I also say no becuase if your kids are the type that hold on to these things, they will be emotionally scarred (not scared) if they know that they were believing in something that wasnt there. They will have a hard time letting go and it can become a problem for the parents as well as the child.

Boy, you're parents are stupid. Mine gave me a $2 bill once for a tooth.
Santa Claus is a myth perpetuated by parents to delude the young ones. So's the tooth fairy, and the Easter bunny...
Has anyone realized that he spelled Claus Wrong?
Santa is a mafiozi. where do you think he gets money to buy presents ? -_-
he's a drug dealer.
He has snow and elves! *Magic snow*
It turns into all the stuff they need!

SANTA CLAUSE ISN'T REAL!!!!!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!??! LIFE ISN'T WORTH LIVING *pulls out pistol* *puts in bullets* *cocks gun* *shoots foot* *shoots self*
Once a kid grows up, he or she will think practically and conclude that santa doesnt even exist.
So we've been told that Santa rides a sled that's pulled by reindeers that magically fly, fits his fat ass body down every single chimney, takes some presents out of his bad and places it under the trees and sockings, eats some cookies & drinks milk, and does this to EVERY single house in the WORLD all at MIDNIGHT. Cmon, unless you're god or something, no one can do that all in one night. Santa's reindeers would be traveling literally at lightspeed or something if they were able to do this.

Thats true Kow You guys should spell better
And santa well is a person who brings joy and trys to make kids happy by giving them presents! But now parents only make them belive in him so they can make them be good!
But i found out santa did not exist when i found out my present had a sears label on it cuz santa doesn't go to sears unless he owns sears! (GASP)
"Do you believe in God?"

You mean you didn't know that?
Heh. Why is this even a discussion? LOL Everyone knows the answer to this.... Ofcourse Santa exists....hes chillin with the Easter Bunny and Jack Frost. They're all snackin' on Kiebler Elf crackers and moon cheese...
I myself never believed in Santa nor the tooth fairy 'cause I wasn't a rich kid and most Christmas holidays I didn't get any gifts at all. The Christmas my mom and her new husband tried to push this Santa BS on me, they baught me a bunch of presents and put them under the tree and told me Santa braught them. They videotaped the whole thing hoping I'd be forced to see it when i got older. We lived in an apartment without a chimney, by the way. So I asked my mom, "How did Santa get in the house?" My mom responded, "Down the chimney." I said, "We dont have one....did he come through the door?" My parents never responded and it was obvious my mom didn't want to explain how a complete stranger would get into our house without us knowing and through the door, of all places.
I think its a nice thing for people to believe in something, but to tell your child there is a Santa is just plain lying to them because you want them to believe in stuff so impossible. Instead of saying you baught them all that stuff because you had the money to and you loved them very much, you tell them Santa braught them, because they were good, but the bad kids, who didn't get presents because they are poor, got coal. Oh wow...that seems like something to tell your children.
Little Billy: OOOO I got a new bike and a new superman toy and a gameboy!
Little Jimmy:

I got socks and a new hotwheels car....
Little Billy: HAHA Santa put you on the bad list!!!
See what i mean by my example? How do you explain to a child that Santa brings you toys if you are good, but those children are never bad and yet their parents are too poor to afford anything.
Personally I never believe the Santa bull. I saw Santa movies and I thought how the hell could Santa look different all those times? Then I saw a black Santa on a street and I was like WTF? Then I saw a white Santa next to him smoking and I was like WTF 2.0? After seeing many Santas and after many WTFs I asked my mom why there were so many Santa's and she said and I quote, "Maybe it was something you did." Now here was another WTF and it was completely random and maybe its from my mom where I get my randomness from. Then later we got home and I realized we didn't have a chimney. I asked how's Santa comin in the house? My mom yet again said, "Maybe it was something you did." Then in like 20 minutes said. "SANTA'S COMING TONIGHT!!!"
Yeah I guess I got a

ed up mom

Anyways to answer the question... No
Children don't need the whole myth of santa claus coming to their house. Christmas time is about giving (a bit mature for a young child I guess) but you can still set your house to the holiday cheer. Show the child how to be nice, make cookies, just to fun stuff. The best things in life are (usually) free anyway...
I am definitely for acting like Santa exists around little kids.
It's a good way to make 'em shut up, to be blunt. It's not like it is going to cause severe psychological trauma when they learn Santa doesn't exist, but it will definitely help make them act better while they still believe in him.
I think DT makes a good point about Christmas spirit. I am no Christian, but I celebrate Christmas and I think that the Christmas spirit is important. It's a spirit of unity for a good cause, and if it takes a fable to help children understand the Christmas mentality, then so be it.
b.d
he isnt real.... when i was little i stayed up all night pretending to be asleep, and all i saw was my mom & dad putting prestents under the tree.....
and more proof....
i shot him down with a Flak 88
he might of been real a long time ago but other than that....
there is none!
Santa,
Longtime ago in germany he was a real person. (expect was not named santa but still same " Person " ) he didn't live in north pole but went each house in his village and gave gifts. Santa is not real yes, but he still is part Christmas spirit somehting some us are lacking these days. So you saying santa not real is your opinion. Some people still think he is so let them think he is and not ruin there hopes. But santa is kinda real because its your parnets/guardian. So meh just my stupid opinions.
An excerpt from Artemis Fowl, the book.
QUOTE
Santa Claus is a shadow of San D'Klauss, the third king of the Frond Elfin Dynasty. He is known as San the deluded, not a great title, as titles go. Admittedly, D'Kluass thought that the greed of the Mud People(humans) could be assauged by distributing lavish gifts. He would marshall all the great wizards once a year and have them throw up a great time-stop over vast regions. Flocks of sprites would be sent out to deliver the rpesents while the humans were asleep. Of course, it didn't work. Human greed can never be assauged, especially not by gifts.
And there we go, the truth behind Santa.
Santa is a good way to force kids to do our slave work
Santa Claus is a disease, a cancer of young children. He is a plague, and reality is the cure.
