Staredit Network -> Serious Discussion -> Endangered Cultures and Third World Countries
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Screwed on 2004-12-01 at 05:36:58
You wake this morning and have a roof over you. You slide open ur closet and your hardest choices today is to decide what to wear. But in many other countries it's not the the same. The family's biggest concern today is to find enough food to feed their families, and fetch some water a few miles away from a disease-contaminated river. The whole family is sometimes dependent on one of their children to carry out a chore, such as cook or bring enough water for their whole family.

Sometimes their families are huge... and that causes the family to starve. You might think it is their choice to have so many children... but think of it this way. If they are already starving and suffering in agony, how easy is it to maintain birth control? Just because they are poor why should they be restricted to experience this kind of pleasure? So afterall its a big cycle. The family have a lot of children to work and earn money, and that makes their children to grow up and do the same.

There are many endangered cultures in the world, the Kurdish, Modern Egyptians, Native Americans, Eskimos, Maoris, Aborigines and many more. There are many things in common with them. Although their existence may not directly affect many of you, I think action is needed to be taken in order to preserve these cultures. Usually the main factors for these endagered cultures to become endangered is the government, corruption and notice there is always a larger influence in contact with them. These pressurised cultures are often mistreated and their children do not receive full education and therefore cannot stand up against the dominating identity.

The reason we don't notice them is that they are consumed into another group and finds difficulty to carry on their tradition. Their lifestyle is also so different that it is reasonably hard for us to comprehend what it's like.

I don't have much time to add many facts and details to this post rite now, I'll do it tomorrow... but I just want to create and leave this thread here to provoke some thinking.

What are the possible outcomes? Suggest solutions. What are your initial thoughts? Please be open-minded.

Note: I did not proof read this, some things won't make sense.

Ugh... horrible... First off:

Yeah... because I barely have any clothes. It's a hard choice because somehow I got to work with very little. Anyways, yeah, I see your point... but, don't you think there are people suffering in america (or insert your own country here)? Yes, there is. Unemployment rates are high, job out sourcing is high, etc... So shouldn't we take care of our own nation instead of worrying about others? Yes, we should.

They shouldn't deprive themselves of a simple pleasure in a world of pain? Get real. Usually however, because of a low chance of life for the babies, they try to have more babies to try to counteract the low rate of survival. Upon doing so, they actually make it worse because they all go hungry then.

But anyways... should we help them? No. Food for peace and other food salvation missions fail. Does the food really go to the people? Barely. Usually it get's jacked by their own countries army and used for war fuel. If not, it gets stolen by others to sell it off.

Now, america tries to play big brother to all lot of 3rd world countries... and it does no good. Government to government financial aid does little to help a country get on their feet. It creates a dependency and laziness. Foreign aid DOES NOT prevent social breakdown.

Now you talk about culture and etc... who cares if they are dying?

I could give you like a 5 page report on the matter of why we shouldn't do anything to help them... but... nah...
