Staredit Network -> Serious Discussion -> We're zero-demensinal points in the non-existing

What if...
What if everything we see isn't real, what if everything we feel isn't there, what if everything we hear doesn't exist.... Well you think now that that is bull censored.gif but how would you now ? Because you really feel something when you walk against a wall ? Well since the scientists say you feel that coz a 'thingie dingie' (tongue.gif) goes from your fingers to your brains it could be that your hanging uppside down right now but you don't now that coz your body, eyes, etc. like to send 'thingie dingies' to your brain so you think you're sitting behind your pc trying to understand this bull censored.gif .... It COULD be huh.... Well if we're so far.... Then it could also be that we don't have a body at all but that we're a 0 dimensinal (yeah yeah, bull censored.gif , I now, but that doesn't matter huh happy.gif) point in a non-existing 1.5 dimensinal box where 'borgs' from 'startrek' (or mister Bean... I don't care happy.gif) are pushing 'thingie dingies' through us which creates a bla bla bla....
My point is (yes I actualy hava a point biggrin.gif) that why the heck should we believe what we see and feel, why the heck should we even try to live if we get only 1 bad thing, why the heck aren't we all commiting suicide right now.... we are just 0 dimensinal points in the non-existing.....

It's kinda much bull censored.gif , but the world we're thinking we're living in is totaly bull censored.gif so that doesn't matter at all....

Welluh what do ya think ?

ADDITION: of and YES I watched 'The Matrix' quite some times tongue.gif

Okay, this is a really, really old concept that I've thought of many many times throughout my short life of 13 years.

Though, the biggest question of all...
Why does it matter?
Also, your last paragraph states it in a way as if you believe it is truth... It could be, of course, but it is not necesarily. And I don't see why, supposing we had some way of knowing that it is true, we should commit suicide. After all, in that event, we're just nothings, or whatever we happen to be, and those signals that make it seem like we're playing Starcraft are really just little fairies making images and so forth to make me believe all you exist and to see how I respond in such an environment.

I beleive that something exists as long as people think it exists. You may try and make yourself think you have a bajillion dollars but sub-consciencially you know that you dont have a bajillion dollars. It is hard to make new things exist. If people see you, and know you are there, then you are there. If people stop knowing you exist, you will cease to exist.

Well, those bajillion dollars may exist if you manage to convince every aspect of your mind of their existance, but they won't exist to others.
They exist, literrally, in your mind, but not otherwise.

And as for non-existance, what about things that humans didn't know existed, and then discovered?
Where did they come from?
Though, your belief is similar to that of the universe being a framework of thought.
For example, if you could convince enough people that the world is flat, and they believed it strongly enough and such and such, then the world is flat.

Personaly, I don't believe in that, but perhaps if you tweaked it around some then it could be something I believe in.

yeah you got a good point there, and a terrific example is iraq: the goverment and all those other censored.gif -ass people there told us that there where nucliere weapons in iraq but they knew it wasn't true. But we all believed it... And now we supported the same guy, bush, who told all this bull censored.gif and made us beliefe something so he could kill lots of innocent people just because it is better for HIS economy etc. etc.
Terry Goodkind has written a fantastic fantasy serie about such sort things, The Sword of Truth. And in the first book it goes mainly over Wizards first rule, which is: "People are stupid, they will believe everthing they want to be true or fear to be true" Even when we are 0-dimensinal spots in a 1.5-dimensinal box, we are still stupid like hell..... most of the time then happy.gif

What does it matter if we're all going to die when we're about 80 (or tomorrow if you're lucky). So you can be proud you've had some fun in your life ? so you are rememberd with love ? has life any value if it will end ? will it have (more) value if you are rich and have lots of friends etc. ? nah... wouldn't think so

life should be forbidden

Just because you can't find meaning in your life doesn't mean you have to drag mine down.

It's somewhat hard to comprehend your views in that jumbled up first post... but if you are contemplating whether your real or not, follow my simple steps:
#1 let someone punch you in the face a couple of times.
#2 If that reality check doesn't work, repeat step 1 as many times as necessary

Deadalus,

What you just got into is metaphysics and ontology, which are really tough and VERY lenghty subjects. Perhaps the entire universe is simply just a by-product of your imagination. All of your friends and family aren't real, you're simply imagining them because you aren't sane. This is known as solipsism. Even if someone punched you in the face, was that punch real? What is reality? What proof is there that you exist, or that the person who punched you exist? Maybe you felt some pain, maybe blood running down your nose, but maybe you're just imagining it.

Sanity is based on the concensus of the majority, but just because the majority believes something, doesn't mean it's right. The majority of people used to think that the Earth was flat. So, maybe some of the people in mental institutions really are sane, and we are the ones who are insane.

Well, if the inquisitions from this post leads you to suicide, blame Canada.
