I was hexing one of my maps, and when I opened it in StarEdit, the terrain was INSANE! Random tiles everywhere, and smaller than 1x1 squares.
Strange, but can't see how this can help, can you control what is and isn't that size?
upload your map, plz...
maybe it's a bug with your computer or the editor....
do it works when you play it ???
Saw something like that long time ago...
You could only open the Map with SCMDraft 1 Alpha and you couldnt play it...so it was useless for my...
and the tiles are currently ¼x*¼...
Open Map with SCMDraft 1 Alpha and look at the lower left corner!
every tile is made of 16 minitiles, you can see that if you use ArensalIII's tile editor.
so if the tiles got messed, it means that you're running your editor thru a messed-up mod or that something in the editor is currupted...

I know,...but the size of them is ¼*¼ [¼*¼= 1/16....so there are 16 Minitiles]...And i think its hardcoded so you cant use this Minitiles

well, you think wrong, you can edit minitiles with the most basic SC modding program there is -> ArensalIII!
all you have to do is to extract the ini files and than you can edit them to your will.
but of course, you need some basic modding knowledge also (and SC installed on your computer... if that wasn't obvious).
I doubt they will show up in Starcraft like they do in your editor. What number did you change the tiles to? It's probably 'extended tiles', much like the 'extended units' and 'extended players'. Like they probably won't show properly on PC computers, but they will for mac. Like Player 14 works on PC, but not mac. Anyway, if you can, post the map.
I am making big assumptions here, but this will all build on already known information. Loading all the graphics for the map is insane, and takes up a humongous amount of system resources. So StarCraft loads what you are looking at only. Thus, I can assume that it saves resources to have each tile divided up into mini tiles, so that it is possible to load only parts of tiles to display on the screen. In this way, when you scroll the screen it scrolls not in whole tiles, but in smaller amounts, possibly the minitiles.
Maybe that's complicated. Maybe that's not even true. That's what I think. Oh yea, in which case you can't edit them uneless you are making a mod.
Nice find using a hex editor. I don't think you will be able to use this in multiplayer since not all of the players will haev that tile in their system.
It probably takes too much time to hex edite each specific minitile to a specific effect so it would be very time consuming.

that's actually true, and I can bring screenshots from ArenalIII proving it.
every map, includes about 160 minitiles, that have many different combinations to make tiles.
anyhow, who knows, maybe the editor for some reason f***ed up and started placing random combinations on the map.
neither way, it has no use (that I can think of)... it's just a bug in the program...
[edit-] here is a screenshot of the ArensalIII tile editor:
http://img69.exs.cx/img69/9999/arensal3hk6un.jpgIt was probably a mess up in SE, considering that I was encrypting my CHK, but if anyone knows anything about controlling minitiles, please say something.

the only way to control them is in modding, with a Program called ArensalIII.
but, you'll have to have many more programs to execute the mod and extrcact files you need for it to work.
since it's too many to explain, and I assume you don't have yet any knowledge in modding, I'll link you to the best tutorials I know.
http://www.starcraft.org/customs/faq.asphttp://www.starcraft.org/customs/tutorials/usingcustoms.asphttp://www.starcraft.org/customs/help.shtmlhttp://www.warboards.org/showthread.php?t=5599&page=1and here is a resource page to download all the latests programs used in sc modding:
http://www.starcraft.org/customs/resources.shtmlso basically, if you wanna edit minitiles, learn modding.
modding is fun, it's like the next level after ums making, so I recommend to everybody that haven't yet to learn modding, it's fun and you can edit things in SC that you never thought you'll be able to, and I'm not just talking about speed and range.
The only modding tool I have is IceCC, noone makes anything for mac.

that's sad... aint program like the compactor extractor and Arensal work in mac?
well, writing scripts in IceCC is useless if you can't compact it and make a mod of it...
but neither way, you can't dl mods thru bnet like maps, so editing minitiles and playing it is only possible in SP or when you have a group of ppl that use the same mod...
I don't have a better advice for you than 'sell you mac and buy a pc'. :\
If you open a map with a lot of random null terrains in it, it seems to break everything into minitiles when you scroll. It also keeps the graphic of the diamond cursor, so moving it makes a little pattern. Units will also show up weirdly. I just notice it when i open maps with a lot of null in it with CE
Null is nothing, therefore Staredit displays it as nothing. It's basically a graphics bug.
we can't use it !
that really USELESS !
it shows bugs because editor can't draw them correctly but, the map is not really like that
show me a screen shot of 16*16 minitiles in starforge or in starcraft and it would be interesting !
In the master palatte or at the top left of the little box with all the different types on terrain. I prefer to use a null that works like a black because It's annoying when half your map is that buggy and your trying to do something on SCXE.
I use 1-13. It doesn't bug my editors at all, and if I want to, I can allow people to float with it.
lol, I just eralized it would be funny if someone made a new 'Float a Drone' map using the 0-13 terrain on the edges. I should do that, lol.
Legacy, it's not completly useless because we are learning which null terrains work in X-tra, that has to count for something....
umm. you do know that if you use the null terrain at the bottem of the tileset, it shows up as regular black in the editor..
You just have to use the Black Null to the right of the normal terrain in the Master Pallette.
Use every Black/Null Tile except the Tiles in the first line...
And you can create Units on 1-13 [the first black tile in the creep-line], but you cant teleport Buildings on this Terrain (Units work fine)....ah...and you cant create buildings on this terrain...
It happens when you try to place tiles that do not exist. I did something like that with a old verison of Starforge. I belive they all just show up as black tiles (because there isn't a tile there)
Anyways there not smaller tiles there just the normal ones with grid looking features. Just a display error in the editor.
