Staredit Network -> Website Feedback, Bugs & Discussion -> -PETITION- : Down with the mineral system
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Staredit.Net Essence on 2004-12-11 at 20:19:25
The mineral system is totally, and COMPLETLY killing the StarEdit Network: A website dedicated to map making and the StarEdit engine. The mineral system is a semi-good way to keep the members in touch and give some entertainement, but it is also a very great source of bugs, fights and abuses.

Vote to decide. We'll see what Isolated decides then: Keep this annoying / good feature and cope with everything that happens around it, or concentrate on the website itself instead of such mineral matters.

Go for it, minerals pretty much mean nothing here at SEN, they mainly distract people from mapping/actually posting long juicy posts to help others instead they post lots of short ones that barely answer a question.

Thats my word right there, the big guy said down with it.

But there are problem's with this. Armies would go down unless some type of different and seperate economy is applied there. The one like KoC would apply quite nicely here and Armies would be active once again. Make it so that every update you get X money added per soldier that you have.

Armies problem Fixed.

The store would seem even more pointless that what it is. I say that the item that most people watch for in the store is the glowy name and thats it, they won't view warn level because it's only once and people don't seem to like risking for random money. Without minerals the store would be useless.

The Lot system that Moose is working so hard and testing his .php knowledge with will be a waste. Mineralas won't be available so what good would this be?

It's a very hard decission to take minerals away and this is the first time IP has witnessed this and my 3rd time.(The two others where when yoshi was in charge, one of them failed and the pther reduced minerals to their current system). Some things at SEN would be useless thus hard work would be lost.

It's up to you IP.

Perhaps a salary? Depending on your post count/participation (100 Chars+ = 1 post)
You get say 1 Mineral for every 20 posts you have accumulated, for each day.
Collect your salary at the end of the week (Sunday Morning at midnight, after map night) and your pay is based on your accumulative posts at the end of the day (Midnight)
I start at 0
Say I posted 5 legal posts on day one, That would add nothing to my paycheck
The next day, i posted 7 posts, but 3 were <100 characters leaving me with 4 posts that day, still no pay for that day.
3rd day, i feel chatative, posting in the serious discusion with legal posts 10 times. It adds to my post count but not my paycheck.
4th, i make 5 posts, raising my daily wage to 1 mineral a day. That makes 24 posts altogether
5th, i was at school/work and did not get on sen. 2 total minerals on this paycheck
6th i make 8 legal posts raising my post count to 32. 3 total minerals on this paycheck
Saturday, the 7th day of the week, i post 9 more posts, making my posts go to 41, just in time to raise my daily wage to 2 minerals a day. I have 5 Minerals, in which are given to me at midnight on sunday morning.

I like that idea, and if you do a special job, EG test out a feature, or make some graphics for the site, you get a bonus.

Sound good?

ADDITION: Im hoping this will add to my other post, if not. i guess i will have to edit it in and delete this:

I guess we'd need to have a separate post count, leaving everyone at 0 starting posts.

I don't really care. I never use the minerals. I really don't care about them I just keep them and see how much I can acumilate over time. It's the people who llike army and zerg pets that need them. Alos minerals can make people want to join tournaments. But I really don't care.

That's exactly the attitude we don't want to have here...

We're a free forum. SEN should just allow EVERYONE the same priviledges (apart from moderating, of course). Newbies won't have to work their ass off to get to an "advanced level", and regulars don't need armies, stores, pets and minerals to stay here.

I'd be all for this except some people play the Army System and I think some other things use money too like zerg pets but I'm not completely sure.

Shadow Paladin sucks.

Minerals are fun to mess around with when you get bored.

Get the censored.gif ing hell rid of it

"Shadow Paladin sucks."
Wtf?

Anyways, my opinion...
I like Kow's idea.
Though, perhaps, have it be less post orientated.

I mean, the minerals are bad.
We've already had a topic on whether Kow should be banned... for exploiting the thing that minerals are for, and breaking just about no rules, unless you except spamming; but, as I said in the BanKow topic, technicaly, he spammed, but it didn't do the harm that is attempted to be avoided by anti-spam rules.

This minerals per char count system just means one thing: spam
If you guys want minerals I would put a system that is not based on the char count.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Kow on 2004-12-12 at 09:39:12
But if we get rid of the character count post system, people will just post like 3 word replies and get the same amount of minerals as someone with a 5k worthwhile response... i still like mine... except you would get hired! instead of posts counts

Priviledges / advanced level = glowy name?

I like the entertainment value of mineralz. There's a lot of surrounding issues around them, sure... but they can all be addressed.
The army system could be fixxed without minearls... but what of the zerg pets, sen lots and etc, etc, etc. It just seems like a definite no...

I still think we should do the 'Wages' mineral system... with some minor changes to make it not heavily based on posts...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Deathknight on 2004-12-12 at 10:38:23
Sala, saying "Shadow Paladin sucks" is NOT necessary. Yes, I agree to getting rid of it.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by SaLaCiouS(U) on 2004-12-12 at 10:49:57
It had no relevance to this topic but I was pissed off so I was going around and adding that to the bottom of all my posts.

Precisely what I said tongue.gif

"It had no relevance to this topic but I was pissed off so I was going around and adding that to the bottom of all my posts."

Couldn't saying someone 'sucks' in all of your posts for no apparent reason be considered flaming?

In this case, yes, since it was direct (apparently, unlike Xeno and me).

Sometimes, ... well lots of times a "yes" or "no" post is a lot better than a 5k word crap. I usually like reading small posts, big ones are hard to read, a waste of time (for the one that writes them and for the one that read them) and have lots of crap for make them bigger.

How about, the LESS you post the more minerals you get? Bye bye, spam! tongue.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Kow on 2004-12-12 at 19:00:26
Wouldnt that induce it?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mini Moose 2707 on 2004-12-12 at 19:26:50
It would REduce it.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Venom-- on 2004-12-12 at 19:40:57
how about mods are the ones who award minerals and only on a few occasions. Like if someone makes a really good post (reguardless of forum) than the mod gives that person some minerals and leaves a note on the post that was so good.

and vice versa; if someone screws up beyond all comprehension, mods take away minerals.

However, that gives the mod staff more power than I think they should have.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Kow on 2004-12-12 at 19:57:53
Perhaps have a separate 5 people, who reward minerals, and have no other privelages. It would have to get a 3/5 vote for it to be passed.

But that would only add to the number of 'mods'

Those are TERRIBLE ideas. Moose had a great idea.
